Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Love Songs.......2005-06-17
Even though many of the songs may sound better in the original Portuguese, this album puts together some of the best of the Bossa Nova love songs. All of the artists are terrific, especially Sylvia Telles, Lani Hall (of Sergio Mendes fame), Milton Nascimento, and others. It definitely grows on you. Also, it's good therapy music after a bad day.

Album Description
Twelve original songs combine rock, folk, blues and even a little funk to create a cohesive sound that sustains the whole collection. It's all here: lost love, found love, cold nights in strange rooms and great Mexican food! Doug Gibboney on guitar and harmonica is backed by P.R.J. Smith on guitar, Don Judy on bass and mandolin, John McHenry on drums, Tim Pelton on keyboards and Noel Gevers on backup vocals and congas. If you're looking for some honest, real music, this CD is for you.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointed.......2002-06-11
Shame on me for taking the editorial reviews advise. "If you are looking for some honest, real music, this CD is for you." It is a real stretch to compare this CD to real music. The lyrics are so poorly contrived as to appear as a garage high school band of the mid seventies. The sound quality of the CD appears to have also been cut in a garage. To place this CD with the likes of Dylan, Bonnie Rate, or Jimmy Buffet is an even bigger stretch. I know Bonnie Rate and this CD is no Bonnie Rate. Nor is it even a close comparsion to Dylan. It appears that the tracks for the music were cut at different times and force together. I can not say anything good about this CD. I have no place for it in my collection.
atrocious.......2002-06-11
...This is a horrible album; the only thing I'm impressed with is how many cliches he's managed to fit in one cd. I listened to it a second time, thinking it might be me, but no luck, this is one bad cd. The mix is way too rough, the guitar is too amatuerish.
Fine Songwriting.......2002-05-27
Some nicely crafted songs here. There's rockers like "Going Down Slow," good ballads like "Up to You," and the folk-tinged "Two of a Kind." "Hot Tamales" is pretty funny. Like some of the other reviews have said, if you like Dylan, Neil Young or John Hiatt, this album is worth adding to your collection.
A book of poems..........2001-02-21
A very pleasant surprise indeed,Doug Gibboney's debut belongs to that very rare breed of introspective singer-poet-songwriter-traveller,very much in the vein of Dylan,Mark Knopfler, even Van Morrison or Bob Seger. There are beautifully crafted songs here, from the firy opener'Going Down Slow' to the last track'Just Another Blues',while gems such as'Hold So Long' are introspective and atmospheric.Throughout the album, this new artist witnesses the movements of the soul and how they intersect with the outer world, applying just the right touch of poetic gentleness needed. Doug Gibboney's album is a prime example of that creative plateau from which the likes of John Hiatt or Neil Young emerged.Highly recommended!
Real honest music.......2001-02-18
I have just been listening to the sound samples from "Guitars, girls& motels. It`s dam good,it`s so good to hear real honest heart felt music. Most music groups of the last couple of years just make me cringe they sound so fake and manufactured. I recomend this CD to people who like good music!
