Hmm. Decent double disc set.......2002-02-05

Well, can't say I agree much with the previous reviewer. I think this is a pretty fair compilation. This is really music of Brazil with mostly Brazilian musicians and singers. Perhaps the reviewer wanted more "traditional" Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius De Moraes or perhaps American renditions of Bossa Nova/MPB?

This is a double disk set from the Gold series, which specializes in featured artists and styles. That said, the sound quality in this double disk set is NOT like that of the Antonio Carlos Jobim tribute or the acoustic/Spanish guitar releases. It's better, although it still won't wow you.

The styles are everything from Bossa Nova, Samba, Tropicalismo and MPB - what is neat about this CD is that you can get a vivid sense of the many different styles of music in Brasil and how the music in Brasil sort of is like a spider web, from one sound leading into the other and etc. Featured artists are Caetano Veloso, Ivan Lins, Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim with Miucha, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Milton Nascimento, Baden Powell, Maria Bethania, Gal Costa, Joyce, Edu Lobo and many many more.

I enjoyed this CD. It's a bit off of the beaten path and offers some of the music that probably did not reach the American shores from Brasil in the seventies and eighties when the music was still evolving. It will not blow you out of the water, but I enjoyed it. For the price, the double disk is nice.

Very disappointed!!!.......2001-01-30

I am a Bossa Nova collector and I was very disappointed with this double CD simply because it has VERY LITTLE bossa nova music on it. It's mostly samba, tropicalism, and MPB. It might be a good "eclectic" collection of Brazilian music, but that's about it. I'm giving my copy to my nephew.

An excellent Compilation.......1999-09-16

Bossa Nova Gold is an excellent compilation double CD of various wizards of Bossa Nova. It contains songs usually left off of other compilations and includes many of my favorite artists and their songs, like Gal Costa's smooth Bem Bom and Baden Powell and Caetano. But you will be disappointed if you uexpect to hear Elis Regina or Leila Pinheiro.

Totally agree with comentary that says:
"when it concerns Enrique Guzman they are not releasing his original recordings It is a travesty that Orfeon would market his songs and his image, when it's not even Enrique singing them. The plain and simple truth is that the real Enrique Guzman does not sing in this album, but rather an imitator".

Perhaps is not an imitator but and older Enrique Guzman, who does not makes same rendering of the songs as he did back in the early sixties. I have purchased several CDs with the hope that the next one would be the real deal but no such luck. They are rip-offs, save for some songs. The only CD where all are tracks are as I remember them is the one where he plays with the Teen Top's.

Wonder why, does anyone knows why they are not releasing the original tracks? Is it legal issues between E.Guzman and the recording companies? Cannot believe the tapes of the original recording sessions have been lost...

Not Original Recordings....Why use an Imitator?.......2004-04-03

I can't speak for the rest of Orfeón Label Releases, but when it concerns Enrique Guzmán they are not releasing his original recordings. It is a travesty that Orfeón would market his songs and his image, when it's not even Enrique singing them. The plain and simple truth is that the real Enrique Guzmán does not sing in this album, but rather an imitator.

As for the nostalgic value of the CD...I really can't argue against that, and that is the reason I am giving it one star; otherwise I would rate it zero stars....

Don't be fooled like I was.

A SUPERB COLLECTION OF CUGAT'S RECORDINGS.......2002-12-17

Some of the best renditions taken from his recordings of the 50's. Great rhumbas, mambos and sambas---all instrumental. I am waiting for your release of " THE KING PLAYS SOME ACES" due out in Jan. 2003. I have that LP recording from the 50's and it will be nice to have it on a CD. Some more great Xavier Cugat music that is as up to date as any type of music in the year 2003. Incidently, your Free Download that you offer [Mexican Hat Dance]is NOT typical Xavier Cugat music. This CD wasn't good at all. I've listened to it maybe twice and couldn't get through the whole thing once.

Great Collection.......2004-11-07

Great Reggaeton Compilation. Saw Trance Dancers review, took a look at the Ragga Nacion package and bought it. Great DVD/CD package. I noticed that both Reggaeton Gold, and Ragga Nacion are from Universal. If I had to choose on it would be Ragga Nacion because it has both a DVD and a CD. However I too, like DJ Nelson, and Ivy Queen.

Nice package including Ivy Queen (class act), DJ Nelson, who I personally like, and many of the favorite Puerto Rican Artists. If you like Reggaeton Gold, you should also enjoy Ragga Nacion, which has a 19 song CD with new songs, as well as gold and platinum hits, plus a 75 minutes DVD. Both Reggaeton Gold and Ragga Nacion together should fulfill the needs of most Reggaeton fans.
