Raphie and La Selecta's best from 1978-83........2003-06-29

Raphie Leavitt's Orquesta La Selecta is one of the longest-running Puerto Rican salsa bands. This compilation contains such classics as "El Volantin", "A Tropezon", "Siempre Alegre", "El Fogon", "Declaracion Musical" and "Perla Mala". While La Selecta's popularity never matched that of Leavitt's fellow bandleaders Willie Rosario, Bobby Valentin, Roberto Roena and Tommy Olivencia it's still a much-revered band. This 2-CD set is chock-full of great and heavy-duty Puerto Rican salsa.

novice Salsa Champ.......2006-03-11

I started taking dance lessons 10 months ago for fun, I got hooked on the Salsa, I love Elvis Crespo but Frankie is hands down the best i'm planning on putting my moves to the test at the Copa (one day) I have a routine to do at my dance class to graduate to the next level (this will be my bronze)i'll be dancing to La Cura! I hope everyone gets a Salsa out of it.

After spending the first half of the 1980s with Orquesta La Solucion and Tommy Olivencia's orchestra the late Frankie Ruiz signed as a solo artist with TH-Rodven Records. Virtually all of his classic 1985-92 solo hits are included here and this 2-CD set is an "Essential" for any fan of 1980s Salsa. Frankie Ruiz was an undisputed icon of 1980s and '90s Salsa and his music remains both timeless and relevant to this day.

acuerdense de los grandes !!!.......2004-06-24

America Latina siempre ha olvidado su historia. Desconocemos cada vez lo nuestro y mas aun a los grandes y verdaderos componentes de nuestra musica. Este es el caso del SEÑOR Marvin Santiago. Sin temor a equivocarme, es uno de los mas grandes soneros de la historia de la salsa. Y esta compilacion de temas lo confirma. Es pasionante descubrir la relacion de las canciones con momentos de su vida. "Nostalgia", "Auditorio Azul" y "Libertad" (obra maestra) fueron grabados en la carcel y dicen que con los presos haciendo coros. Fue uno de los favoritos del genial Tite Curet Alonso y los plasma en temas como "Me esta que se hace" y "Campana del Lechon", tambien de Cortijo. Lastima que los desarreglos en su vida hallan mellado la calidad artistica de Marvin. No estan todos los temas que deberian estar pero este CD doble cumple su cometido: recordar a uno de los grandes y que las generaciones jovenes no piensen que todo es Lavoe, Gran Combo o Ruben Blades. Recordemos nuestra historia, señores.

El Pasajero is one of my favorites of all time, just on the verge of control with the soneo as he throws it out and just pulls it back working all around the clave. Agree with the other posters, this is real straight-up salsa, no romantic crooning or whining here, it's straight from the street y con sabor Boricua! I met him at Veracruz beach in Panama in 1993,a class act all around.

One of Puerto Rico's greatest soneros........2003-10-01

Most of Marvin Santiago's big solo hits are all here. "Fuego A La Jicotea", "Sonero", "Vasos En Colores", "Para Usted", "El Pasajero", "Frente A Ustedes", "El Mangoneo" and "La Libertad" are stone Salsa classics from one of the greatest soneros of all time. Marvin's incredibly raw and unrefined vocals coupled with an unashamedly street-oriented improvisational approach put him in a class by himself. Despite some tracks' relatively poor sound quality I strongly recommend this 2-CD set to all Salsa fans.

I bought this album for my mom and she totally loved it..Marvin knows how to get down..My fav song on the album has to be "vasos in colores"....they don't make salsa like this anymore

A great compilation from a great Puerto Rican crooner........2003-06-12

Paquito Guzman is one of Puerto Rico's greatest male vocalists and most of his big 1980s hits are included on this fabulous 2-CD set. "Esa Mujer", "25 Rosas", "Ven O Voy", "Cinco Noches", "Aqui Conmigo", "Vivir A Solas", "De Piel En Piel" and "Yo Te Pido Amor" were all major Salsa Romantica hits which gave Mr. Guzman a huge career rebirth during the late 1980s and remain classics to this day. Because Paquito had previous extensive experience as a bolero singer he was able to bring a new level of sophistication, elegance, class and depth of feeling to the Salsa Romantica genre matched by very few of his younger contemporaries with the result being music that will touch and warm your heart and soul every time.

This CD of El Senor Paquito Guzman is truly a masterpiece with music that touches ones' soul. It is a definite must have on every rumberos list. And try listening to it for 'cinco noches

This 2-CD set is a sampler of TH-Rodven Records' 1980s and'90s biggest hits and features the label's most popular artists (ironically, it was released just before the label folded in 1996). Oscar D'Leon, Tommy Olivencia, Paquito Guzman, Frankie Ruiz, Eddie Santiago, David Pabon and others are all here and the sound quality is excellent.

This 2-CD set includes 20 of Oscar's biggest hits ("El Derecho De Nacer", "Detalles", "Hechicera", "Calculadora", "Mi Bajo Y Yo", "El Baile Del Suavito" and others) with overall excellent sound quality. My only complaint is the total absence of liner notes (a flaw also present on the other TH-Rodven "Oro Salsero 20 Exitos" titles).
