5 out of 5 stars Never ever to find more graceful play!.......2007-03-09

The incredible representation and sound Parkening created by the guitar is
sublimity itself. Though I have listened to many a world-famous guitarist,
I have never been so fascinated as by his play. I couldn't but make intimate friends of mine a present of Parkening's CDs like "In the Spanish Style", through which I felt I could show them what real music is like. I never ever imagine I could find more graceful play than that of Christopher Parkening at least in the world of the guitar.

5 out of 5 stars Grunting and moaning explained.......2006-01-03

I met Parkening in 1972, a few years after this album was first released. I asked him about the "groans" that could be heard. He explained that at the time he let his thoughts wander and thought about the future, when some Swiss moron named Peter Gilman would complain about the recording. Absentmindedly, he groaned at the thought of it all. He told me if ever I should meet Peter that I was to apologize.

Peter, sorry about that.

5 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Classical Guitar.......2005-04-07

My parents had this on vinyl when I was kid. I listened to it a lot in high school when I was listening to a lot of musical styles. This and Parkening's Bach CD are probably my two favorite classical guitar discs.

As a rock/blues/pop guitarist, I've been learning some classical over the last few years. And this disc has been my reference. Parkening's playing is confident and enjoyable. Capricho Arabe stands out as does the Sor studies that he covers.

My only complaint is Leyenda, his performance is less than passionate and the recording doesn't sound EQ'd correctly in a few spots. Other artists have better recordings of this song (John Williams comes to mind).

If you are looking for a great classical guitar CD, this is a great place to start.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection.......2004-05-06

This is the album that made me want to take up classical guitar. Great selection of songs, played with incredible feeling and tone. Brilliant performances of Capricho Arabe, Recuerdos and the Villa-Lobos and Ponce Preludes. His rendition of Romance is what every student should strive for. The student (Parkening) has most definitely learned all of his master's (Segovia) lessons and went even further. Still fresh after 25 years of regular listening.

5 out of 5 stars Parkening in top form.......2004-02-28

Christopher Parkening's technical prowess is in full effect here, showing he's truly the ultimate successor to the great Andres Segovia.

I don't know about grunting, but if you listen closely, there is some noticeable sighing from Parkening on a few of the tracks, especially the third. Presumably, he was getting weary from all the work his fingers were getting in playing those immensely complex arrangements. But to go as for as to say it ruins the recording is ludicrous. In fact, the sighing adds to the intimacy and accessibility of the recording. I had always felt distant while listening to a Parkening album because he sounded TOO polished. He plays great here, but to hear his voice, even in its slightest audible sound, adds to the album's charm.

If you're a classical guitar enthusiast, this album is essential.

Album Description

Los Amigos Invisibles (The Invisible Friends) have created the ultimate party album. Surprising segues - one after another - join non-stop grooves. Like having an incredible DJ at your house working for the mere price of a CD (or Cassette)... it flows and swings and never stops... one song/groove leads right into the next, no waiting. It feels like being smacked upside the head in a delicious way.

The New Sound of the Venezuelan Gozadera is a journey deep into the pants of rhythm. (We won't even mention the old sound of the Venezuelan Gozadera). Party music hasn't sounded this chic since Chic. "The Gozadera, more than a musical style, is a concept allowing us to use whatever music we enjoy and mix it up," says guitarist Jose Luis Pardo. "Like boogaloo, salsa, bossa nova, funk, disco, house, techno, jungle, merengue, New Wave, cha-cha-cha, mambo, and of course Acid Jazz." And who better to pull this off than producer Andres Levin (Aterciopelados, Chaka Khan, La Portuaria, La Secta, El Gran Silencio, David Byrne, Arto Lindsay, and many more) along with engineer Fernando Aponte (Masters at Work, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Deee-Lite, Towa Tei)?

This, their second album, finds the young Venezuelans stepping out from under the shadow of the Rock en Español moniker and giving it a much needed face-lift. "We are a rock band that does not just play just rock music," says singer Jose Briceño. The 19 tracks on the album combine keyboard driven dance-rock with elements of Latin music worked in. Whether it's the funked out bliss of "Sexy," the mambo lounge of "Mango Cool," or the trip-hop ecstasy of "Otra Vez" (on which Arto Lindsay contributes a bit of distorted 12-string electric guitar), Los Amigos Invisibles have created the perfect party album. Their lyrics tell stories inspired by real-life experiences of love (sex), relationships (sex), and more often then not, the taboos that accompany each (sleazy sex).

Formed in 1991 as part of Caracas' mobile party scene, the six members of Los Amigos Invisibles quickly developed their unique sound by blending all styles of Latin music with modern beats. Their influences are vast, incorporating the space-age sounds of Esquivel, the whacked-out funk of Parliament, and the beat-friendly Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai. "We began making music influenced by the development of the acid-jazz scene and the dance music coming out of London," says Jose Luis, "but when it came down to playing it, we realized that our culture and environment kept creeping into our music. The tunes that are played over the radio at the corner shop or that we whistle along with from the bodega are songs that interest us... that music is part of our people and that makes it part of us. All we want to do is have fun and make fun of it all at the same time." Their first album, A Typical & Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band, was released in 1996 and received Best Band, Record of the Year and Best Guitarist awards in the Venezuelan Rock Awards.

I bought this one and two others from LAI and every song was great. I recommend them very much. I don't get tired of listening to them over and over!

5 out of 5 stars The Best........2007-01-18

I've been listening to the LAI music, since the very beginning of them, and everytime they bring new susprises with their music. I highly recommend this CD, and many others made by the band.

5 out of 5 stars Los Amigos Invicibles - best kept secret.......2006-02-08

They are by far my favorite Latin band. This band overflows in energy and talent. Their live shows are unsurpassed, and this album is the closest you can get to having that experience.

The entire album is permeated by experimental, funky beats, but has definite foundations in the classic, traditional latin drums and horns. The entire album is in Spanish and although I'm not even close to being a Spanish speaker, this is in my top 5 albums list.

You have to at least listen to this album, and if it grabs you, I hope you have the opportunity to see them live at least once in your lifetime.

5 out of 5 stars Fun fun fun funky fun!.......2004-01-20

Los Amigos Invisibles put the fun in funky in this album. It is so damn good. You can hear their unbridled enthusiasm in every note, and it is infectious. This is a great CD- and was my favorite of 2002 (yeah, it was released earlier, but it didn't come my way until 2002) There are tons of great dance tunes on it, and some goofy one offs, but it is all good.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent music and musician.......2007-07-17

This is, indeed, Venezuelan music, masterfully executed by a master guitarist. Flawlessly executed it stands as a tribute to one of Venezuela's outstanding composers. ¡Cinco estrellas!

5 out of 5 stars great composer.......2006-07-31

Antonio Lauro pieces are very melodic, not long, repetitive but beautiful, his music speaks directly to me and nobody really introduced me to it, i am familiar with many tunes through midi songs and some recordings. i will buy this cd because he comes up time and again as influential instrumentalist to me with interesting structures

i am going to pay cd and nylon string guitar soon too i feel.

5 out of 5 stars what a beautiful melodies Lauro is!.......2004-05-25

I am a guitarist and listen to guitar sounds CD everyday. Especaily I listen to modern time guitar songs, A.York or R.Dyense etc, on the other hand, I listen to south and mid american songs. This Lauro's CD have my both wish, the unique sentimental and beautiful sounds of modern and south american.

Their songs is not long scale songs, though they are small songs, include many unique melodies with alpegio picking style.

It is very difficult to select his best songs because there are a lot of wondeful songs. I love Nataria and Angostuna especially. I think that he is genious in the point that make the songs with minor chords. In addition to that, his songs do not exist bad songs, all the songs is more that good.

Thank you for reading my poor English.

4 out of 5 stars Holzman plays Lauro beautifully.......2003-03-07

A very nice collection of pieces from an important guitar composer. There are other fine performances of Antonio Lauro's works by John Williams and David Burgess, for instance, but this CD certainly does honor to Lauro's musical contributions.

5 out of 5 stars The finest CD in my collection.......2002-11-10

This is currently my favorite guitar recording. The sound is powerful and the playing is unbelievable. I immediately bought every Adam Holtzman CD I could find and they are wonderful too.

5 out of 5 stars Simplemente Genial.......2007-06-13

5 out of 5 stars Marvelous!.......2006-08-09

If you like both beautiful melody and rhythm of the Latin American sort, you will like this recording. If you like solo classical guitar of the supremely virtuosic sort, add that into the equation (plus a few excellent duets). These pieces are played with an uncanny rhythmic precision that does not sound mechanical. They are played elegantly, eloquently and with feeling neither overstated nor understated. Bear with me, because it is impossible to do justice to this beautiful recording with mere words. It is among my favorite recordings of all time - I never tire of listening to it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent interpretation.......2006-03-18

John Williams shows, once again, his guitar mastery in this album. Nice surprise to have few pieces accompanied by a "Cuatro".

I consider Alirio Diaz' interpretations of Venezuelan guitar music to be the gold standard, and yet I was happily surprised by John's version of these pieces.

5 out of 5 stars amazing!.......2005-06-20

I discovered this record by chance. I had followed the work of John Williams for some time, but I never suspected that he had recorded Venezuelan music. John Willimas not just plays Venezulean music superbly but also catches the genuine spirit of it in all its sense.
If you like Venezuelan music this is definitely a jewel you must have. And If you haven't listened to it before I can't imagine a better way to be introduced to it.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!.......2005-06-03

Yes!!
I think John Williams always wanted to do things that branched out from the 'classical' classics, but went silly with Sky. Here, is the happy medium!! He plays these songs with a fun-spirited nature, non-seriouso, with glissandi, fast tempi, strong rhytmic drive. I still like the Gerald Garcia reccordings (Latin American Guitar Music, Naxos) a real lot, but i think that Williams plays them in the true Venezolano spirit. 4.925719/5

Although four years passed since their previous album, these Latin playboys are always up for a party, and The Venezuelan Zinga Son Vol. 1 is no different. Produced by New York house music producers Masters At Work, the band's third domestic album is filled with upbeat salsa ("Esto Es Lo Que Hay" is a riot), soft Brazilian grooves, spacey funk, disco, rock and lounge. They roll it all together into street party of good vibes, sexy beats and lecherous thoughts (see track 14), but what keeps the Brooklyn-based sextet out of gutter is that it's hard to find fault when the insidious jams cause you to stop thinking and start dancing. Interestingly, the album seems to ride the arc or raging party: it starts on a promising but mellow tip, then loosens up in the middle part, then rides it out until there's nothing left to give. Los Amigos' best effort yet, Zinga is all-purpose fun. --Tad Hendrickson

5 out of 5 stars As much fun and "sabor" as day 1.......2007-07-13

Combining influences of Fania-based Salsa, bossa nova (Jobim) and deep house, and singing several songs in English (not surprising considering how much time they spend in NYC), with "The Venezuelan Zinga Son, Vol. 1" the Amigos presented their fourth work in a moment that Venezuela -their homeland- and the world at large very much need their excellent groove and good musical humor.

Still, four years after its original release, the album retains all its flavor and fun, much like all their other works, kicking aside language barriers. With Los Amigos Invisibles, you CAN'T go wrong: from their first work, A Typical Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band to their 2006 release, Superpop Venezuela, they've managed to combine music and fun in a way few other bands anywhere else can.

5 out of 5 stars PURE VENEZUELAN GOZADERA.......2006-04-07

INDEED ONE OF THEIR BEST ALBUMS FOLLOWED BY THEIR FIRST ONE "THE NEW SOUNDS OF VENEZUELAN GOZADERA". tHEY MAKE YOU DANCE, THEY MAKE YOU HAPPY, THEY MAKE MY DAY EVERYTIME I SPIN THEIR MUSIC. IF YOU GET A CHANCE OF SEEING THEM LIVE...DON'T THINK TWICE, THEY ARE "AWESOME" YOU WON'T STOP DANCING FROM THE VERY FIRST BEAT!! LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES ARE MY "AMIGOS" AS WELL.

5 out of 5 stars Excelente.......2005-12-24

In this new work, Los amigos Invisibles, not only show his particular sound of Acid Latin Jazz, but they expose his maturity and versatility in each of the songs. This venezuelan group is raised as the only flag of his country in foreign territory, for the only one does not say. His topics reflects the good sound of the Funk, Acid Jazz and the soft notes of the Bossa in the topic "Playa Azul ". Indisputably, a great work.

5 out of 5 stars Best Latin band today.......2005-11-04

Los Amigos are, simply put, the hottest -- and best -- Latin act in music today. Their incorporation of traditional latin rhythms with jazz, funk and rock meld into a sound uniquely their own. Venezuelan Zingason continues the tradition of The New Sound of the Venezuelan Gozadera, Arepa 3000 and their limited release self-titled LP (which can be obtained via the LAI website). "Ease Your Mind" (in English, weirdly enough) may be the best track here, followed by its Spanish phonetic equivalent "Isyormain." And, of course, throughout the disc LAI never lose their humor or clever deviousness.

Also, if you EVER get a chance to catch Los Amigos live in concert, I guarantee you one of the BEST times of your life! They are simply SPECTACULAR!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome band, awesome CD!.......2005-10-28

I saw these guys live in NYC during the Latin Alternative Music Conference. They rocked my world! Live show was split up into smooth first half and funky second half. I was so impressed I had to go and buy a CD. This album stays true to the live performance, containing smooth and suave songs as well as funky latin grooves. It's been in my car stereo for 3 weeks!

Venezuela's resident musical maniacs and former Latin Grammy nominees are back with covers of seventeen tunes they knew and loved during their teen years, a few of which, such as "Miss Venezuela," complete with samples of a simpering beauty queen, actually sound strangely familiar. Their rampant satirical stance and penchant for studio wizardry still firmly in place, they wallow in neo-nostalgia, running amok in Caracas Oldieville, abetted by producer DJ Dimitri of Paris and their own polymorphous tendencies. Nods to Isaac Hayes, Nigerian superstar Fela Kuti, sixties bossa nova as sanitized via the American west coast, P-Funk, Santana, and even The Fifth Dimension do a crazed buck-and-wing around hip-hop, lounge and latter-day dance club machinations. The contexts shift so rapidly that if the listener weren't so busy boogying, vertigo might well set in. By the third track, the flagrantly over-ripe, increasingly bizarre sets of cross-pollinations begin to seem almost normal, as a kind of sonic Stockholm Syndrome sets in. Going with the flow becomes not only a matter of self-preservation, but a hilarious, booty-shaking journey into the group's seductive, endlessly inventive brand of lunatic genius. --Christina Roden

Awesome music, great mixes, and wonderful and funny tunes.... This CD brings their talent !!! Highly recommended along with Arepa 3000: A Venezuelan Journey Into Space

4 out of 5 stars Superb cover tune offering.......2007-03-06

Like a fine wine or cognac, Los Amigos Invisibles only get better with age. With "Super Pop Venezuela," the sextet take a break from their own musical acumen to produce a disc that covers a gamut of Venezuelan melodies. Of course, though, LAI give the assembled harmonies their own unique magnetism. Thanks largely to the euphonious [writing] talents of guitarist José Luís Pardo (aka "Cheo"), "Super Pop"'s offerings are likely to satisfy anyone who enjoys the genre in which LAI subsists. And that's because, even though these songs are not LAI's own, they *make* them their own by injecting into them their own extraordinary character.

My personal favorites are "No Es Fácil Amar a Una Mujer," "Yo No Sé," "Curda y Pan" and most especially "Yo Soy Así." Keep in mind, too, that as with past LAI discs, not all the tunes have vocals -- which, in LAI's case, really makes not a difference as their musical proficiency is off the scale!

Even a casual fan of Los Amigos *has* to see them live at least once in his/her life. It is a truly remarkable event.

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of LAI........2007-01-13

I was living in Venezuela in the 80's, when these songs were first time published, and I can't stop remembering how many woderful things happened to me when I was listening to this music. These is so far, the very best CD released by the LAI, and among other latin bands, LAI is simply the very best of all them. I'd give more stars for this Cd, if they were available. By the way, listen to them alive is another glorious experience. I strongly recommend these guys.

5 out of 5 stars Finally something different and good........2006-12-06

I LOVE this album! It is so much fun! It's got a killer mix of styles that showcase what Los Amigos Invisibles do best. They create a great dance party with some Disco, Salsa, Funk, House and other styles too. Dmitiri from Paris gave it a really nice vibe as the producer. There are songs to chill out to, songs to laugh to and most of all songs to dance to. This album will definitely put a smile on your face. I have a two hour drive to work and can honestly say that I can listen to this album from beginning to end and not get bored. Definately worth every penny and have bought some copies for friends and family as stocking stuffers this x-mas. Enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars pales compared to the last 3 albums.......2006-09-25

Let's be candid, this album is not as well-produced or infectious as the prior 3 Los Amigos Invisibles albums. I love these guys to death, I'm not trying to be negative. But I find myself having no urge to re-listen to "Superpop Venezuela", whereas I always loved to revisit the Luaka Bop releases. Los Amigos Invisibles are an incredible live act, so perhaps this new material is better in concert.

If you're looking for a new act that has some of the same inspiration and creativity as prior Los Amigos Invisibles releases, you could do well by picking up The Pinker Tones debut "The Million Colour Revolution." They are from Barcelona and have a lot of the same good vibes LAI once had.

Everyone has heard the Gipsy Kings' hit Bamboleo. But relatively few people outside of South America are aware that the song was actually composed by a Venezuelan septuagenarian named Simón Díaz. In his original version, the tune was known as Caballo Viejo (The Old Horse) and told the rueful tale, in florid equine metaphors, of an older man who falls in love with a much younger "filly." But such trivia aside, what really matters is that this absurdly overdue USA debut showcases a multi-talented cultural figurehead who is a master at his craft. Adored by aficionados around the world, Díaz has indefatigably championed the lilting tonadas of his native llanos (plains) for more than 50 years. He has attracted an impressive roster of international interpreters but they'd be hard put to equal Díaz's still-youthful voice and proudly patriotic yet unassuming presence. Flanked by harp, cuatro, mandolin bass and percussion, he is the soul of sunny, relaxed music-making. --Christina Roden

5 out of 5 stars A living legend!.......2006-02-22

Simon Diaz represents to Venezuela the most genuine Ambassador of these little joys of the
plainsman. His catalogue - as composer and singer - is abundant, but he will specially reminded for his famous milk songs which allow to extract more efficiently a major amount of milk, through these simple but at the meantime expressive morning salute.

In the second half of his prolific existence (he has additionally been an humorist with an impressive ability to improvise with astonishing sharpness emotive strophes in less you can blink) he composed his best and well renowned theme: Caballo Viejo (Old horse) that focuses around the love 's arrival around the autumnal stage of the life of a horse; sublime metaphor of the human condition when a sudden love may become true. "Old horse can not loss that chance, because after this life there is not any opportunity. "

If you want to know the simple but melodic moods of the most fervent expression of the Venezuelan genuine feeling at these tense and crucial moments this country is passing through, come for this musical postcard.

5 out of 5 stars Venezuelan Folklore at its best!.......2005-08-26

Simon Diaz is to Venezuelan Folklore what Celia Cruz is for the salsa world. He is the creator of music like Caballo Viejo and Bamboleo made famous by other people. When you listen to Simon Diaz is like traveling through the veins of a country rich in folklore and beauty. Unfortunately Venezuela is getting to be known more for the crazy actions of its President but fortunately we have people like Simon Diaz that reflects the pure soul of the venezuelan!

Album Description

"[Los Amigos Invisibles] has taken the rhythmic sass in salsa, the bass-heavy fun in funk, and even the note-bending bile in acid-jazz, and mixed it all up to produce an infectious beat. [They] have put the joy back into dancing, sending a warm current into the cold alienating waters of industrial strength techno." - LA Weekly

"We're a dance band," says Jose Luis Pardo, the guitarist for Los Amigos Invisibles. Tuned into groove culture from Detroit to London to Tokyo -- thanks to the Internet and a busy tour schedule -- the Amigos began work on their new album AREPA 3000: A VENEZUELAN JOURNEY INTO SPACE with a disco sensibility. Admiring French DJ/producers the band sought a heavier house sound in contrast to the retro and lounge elements of THE NEW SOUND OF THE VENEZUELAN GOZADERA. "The lounge thing sounds more Japanese," says Jose Luis. "The house sound is fresher, the disco songs we do sound more like that. The album is more electronic in certain ways."

Since their ground-breaking US debut the Amigos have lived a double life. In their hometown of Caracas, Venezuela, they've hosted underground club nights for years (the most recent called 'Super Sancocho Variety'). Then, insouciant single-entendre songs like "Sexy" and the doggy-style anthem "Ponerte En Cuatro" landed them on MTV and radio, and before long, the six young men found themselves pop idols. It wasn't hard, but their hearts remain on the dance floor and in the clubs.

5 out of 5 stars The perfect blend of funk, salsa and a great sense of humor.......2007-07-13

Arepa is the name of a food that serves as a substitute of bread in Venezuela. Arepa 3000 is the third release of the Venezuelan super-band Los Amigos Invisibles.

Los Amigos, which had already scored big time with their previous two albums (the second of which was already recorded under Luaka Bop, David Byrne's label), did it again, but spicing up their "musica sabrosa" with a great sense of humor. Although it will be even funnier to people originally from Venezuela, you'll love the sections of people (famous comedians, horse race narrators and radio talk show hosts) speaking between songs. Specially contagious are the very tropical "Mami Te Extrano" (Honey, I miss you) and "Llegaste Tarde" (You arrived late).

Still, seven years after its original release, the album retains all its flavor and fun, much like all their other works, kicking aside language barriers. With Los Amigos Invisibles, you CAN'T go wrong: from their first work, A Typical Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band to their 2006 release, Superpop Venezuela, they've managed to combine music and fun in a way few other bands anywhere else can. Compralo y gozalo! (Buy it and enjoy it)

Disclaimer: Unless you get easily offended by sexually-suggestive song titles or explicit lyrics, there's no way on earth you'll dislike Amigos Invisible's first 21st century musical creation: Arepa 3000.

5 out of 5 stars Cómpralo ahorita.......2007-07-05

5 out of 5 stars Good Music.......2007-05-13

If you like the latin beat and instruments this is a good choice, smooth and sexy.

3 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected.......2006-08-10

I expected the CD to be better than it actually was. I first heard cuchi-cuchi and i loved the song, so i thought the other songs on the CD would be energetic like that one. It wasn't a bad CD though. I'd say 40% of the songs were worth listening to.

4 out of 5 stars Nice music.......2006-07-24

These guys have a real sense of music. The mix a lot of genres and the final result is a very delicious music.

Fresh, irreverent, and vigorous, Amigos Invisibles defy categorization. The band's base is rock en español with party attitude fueled by world-party verve. "Ultra-Funk" and "Mi Linda" throw the first hard punches with the message--this is dance-party music, mister, no milquetoasts allowed. Hard funk, rippling percussion, lounge licks, and more all come together nicely. There are even bossa nova grooves on the mellow "Las Lycras del Avila" and '70s funk rhythms on "Cachete a Cachete." The Venezuelan sextet breaks down barriers on the industry's maniacal need to pigeonhole music with this amalgam of rhythms, but the CD is easy listening. Charming, even after a dozen spins. --Ramiro Burr

1 out of 5 stars Profanity.......2005-01-27

There's a song on this album called "Asomacho." In amazon.com's 30 second clip of this song, the words "pinga" and "coño" can be heard, which are Spanish for d--k and c--t. It's disappointing amazon.com continues posting this clip of this song, even when told of the profanity.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT NOISE FROM SUR AMERICA!.......2005-01-24

Wild new rock-jazz-r&b-soul-latino-funk. Great sounds. You will love this and all there other albums too. A great new sound that just moves....

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2005-01-20

This album is straight crazy hotness! I love how the can blend the dance, funk, acid jazz, and Latin percussion in the music. Ponerte en cuatro is just hot! The funny, sexy lyrics make it really cool too! If you want something new and unique, check this disc out!

5 out of 5 stars Sexy.......2004-09-04

What a sexy album this is. It's truly sad that some of the best Latin bands are not very famous in the United States. I'm sick of hearing of Paulina Rubio, Thalia, and Ricky Martin. Especially when there are bands like Los Amigos Invisibles, producing such great music, with this edgy sexy style of play. This Album is just a joy to listen to. I recommend Los Piojos from Argentina different style of play but also very cool music.

5 out of 5 stars A classic of modern true latin-dance-funk.......2003-05-13

I dont have too much to say, the album speaks for itself, pure genious. I;ve seen them in concert in Margarita, Venezuela. New York, and Boston. If you can see them live, they are AMAZING.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful, creative music.......2005-10-30

I am a great fan of the music of South and Central America, but it is hard to find an album that is not just the run of the mill tourist fare. The title of this album almost turned me off for this reason, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the music of excellent quality. These are all serious musicians with academic and professional background, not just some street band. Huascar Barradas on flute leads most of the songs, and is extremely talented. The overall mood of the album is mellow, with occasional bursts of the driving rhythm typicaly associated with Venezuelan music. The music is relaxing but with enough complexity to keep you interested. I would have liked to have heard more of the harp, cuatro, bandola, however (the flute is great, but it dominates most of the songs). No worries buying this album. You will enjoy it.
