I am no music critic, but I know what I like, and I absolutely love this recording (set of two actually). I bought the set because I remembered their early recording of "Er Es Tu" from the 1970's. I expected more music in the same vane but was pleasantly surprised to hear the variety and range of song on this set. I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY IT AGAIN IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THIS SET. I play it as background continuously.

Great sound, great music!.......2000-08-03

The sound quality is impeccable! I picked up this recording because it is really the only decent Mocedades compilation that deals with their 80s work. Songs like "Maitechu Mia," "Cuando Tu Nazcas," and "Asi Fue Nuestro Amor" (all from the album "La Musica") are all classics impossible to find in the States (or in Seattle, at least!). This album also has a bunch of live tracks from a live album called "15 Anos De Musica." Basically, you get a lot of songs you could only find on expensive imports. It's a good primer for Mocedades, and after you're hooked you can go buy their back catalogue, like I have. Thanks to Amazon for carrying it!

Copy Controlled.......2007-03-16

The poor review is not at all due to Jorge Drexler's music, which is excellent. The poor review is due to the Copy Controls installed by EMI. First off, it will not play on any computer media player. If you want to listen to this CD on your computer, you must install their proprietary player. This may seem inoffensive, but consider that you will not be able to rip the tracks into your computer and play them later. You will have to pop in the CD if you want to listen to it.

Secondly, and most importantly, this disc does not contain CD-quality music! This is evident the second you start listening to it. After you install the player, it will reproduce tracks encoded at 128 kbps. CDs play at 1,410 kbps --that's over 10 times better!

If I wanted a 128kbps file I would have downloaded them from the Internet, not bought the CD! Essentially you are paying for a CD but getting, well just low quality sound. Record companies should disclaim these facts BEFORE you buy the CD, and Amazon or any other retailer should also make that information available to the consumer.

I am highly dissapointed with my purchase.

I love all the songs in this CD I can't stop playing it. He has such a beautiful voice and in the slow songs he sounds so romantic. I recomend it to anybody that wants to listen to good Mexican music.

Absolutely First Rate.......2005-08-20

In the film "Buena Vista Social Club" the late Ibrahim Ferrer said that one of the biggest influences on his singing was Nat King Cole. Now that's high praise from one great crooner to another.

Nat King Cole's particular phrasing and smoky smooth baritone sounds great in any language, and this album is immensely satisfying from start to finish. Cole's interpretation of the classic song "Perfidia" is darn near perfect; there is a brief crack in his voice as he sings this song that lets you know that he just gets it. And I mean REALLY gets it. This is a passionate song to begin with, but Cole elevates it to another level.

In addition to displaying first rate musicianship, this collection is also great fun. "Cachito" sets a festive and toe stepping tone right off the bat, and Cole handles the traditional Cumbias on this album with his trademark intelligence, sophistication, and grace. Just more proof of why Cole was one of the greatest singers of the twentieth century.

Nat King Cole is great in any language..........2000-05-24

This CD is absolutly gorgious... Nat King Cole sings exotic songs in spainish, sambas, mambos, and some portuguese brazillian songs too, beautifully arranged by Ralph Charmichael, this music is recommended to all Cole fans, and it is even of interst to jazz collectors for Cole's voice in any language swings even to bossa nova... Highly recommended.

When my dad played this Latin version of Cole, my 3 year old sister began to laugh. Everyone else began to dance. The first time I was ever allowed to get drunk! Even the insurance types let thier guard down! Infectuious.
