Victor Manuelle's Decision Unanime reads like an obvious bid for pop stardom--slick production, big-name pop and reggaeton vocalists--but it's ultimately anything but that. Instead, it's a grand reaffirmation of his status as one of the genre's preeminent salseros. Manuelle could likely have a crossover career à la Marc Anthony, but he's simply not interested. No mediocre English singles for him. Manuelle instead showcases his polished presence and suave good looks amid sweltering salsa rhythms, which make up the bulk of Decision Unanime. There are flashy cameos from the likes of La Secta Allstar, Hector "El Father," and Don Omar (who turns in a surprisingly tender vocal during "Nunca Habia Llorado Asi"), but they don't seem calculated or forced. In fact, Manuelle turns them into temporary salseros instead of copping to their grooves. The disc's best moments--"A Que Te Supo?," "Cenizas," and "Hazme Sentir"--find Manuelle solo on the microphone, showcasing his charismatic vocal style. When Manuelle finally does bow to the power-ballad inclinations of La Academia finalist Yuridia during "Nuestro Amor Se Ha Vuelto Ayer," it's an effective, emotive moment. --Joey Guerra

This Victor Manuelle's albun especially tracks #4 & #7 it could be consider as the "eslabon perdido" between the 70' salsa clasica and today's salsa. The first "salsero nuevo" that could be part of the salsa old school

I just loved this album, got in shipped in from Amazon to the Uk where I live because you cant get it on the UK site. Have been a fan of Victor for about 5 years now and have all his albums.

This album has been a delight to listen to, and is completely different to his last one Travesia, which I didn't really enjoy.

My favourite tracks are Nuestro Amor Se Ha Vuelto Ayer, El Perdedor, Vamos De Nuevo, Maldita Suerte, Nunca Habia Llorado Asi, Cenizas.

Victor Manuelle did it again!! What a great CD! To me this is one of the best albums Victor has ever recorded. This is definitely a must have, much, much better than his last album. My favorite songs are:

Victor Manuelle and his blistering band bring tropical fire and irresistible grooves for an easy dance party on his latest CD. For this project, Manuelle teamed up with some big guns, including veteran producer Emilio Estefan, Colombian singer-songwriter Carlos Vives, and arrangers Ricardo and Alberto Gaitan (Ricky Martin, Thalia). As a singer, Manuelle is a strong tenor with a good range. His emotive vocals are proficient enough for power ballads, but his chief strength is his soneo, or the ability to improvise vocals and lyrics within a salsa tune. He is right at home on the frenzied salsa tunes such as "Te Propongo" where he trades leads with the horns, piano and percussions at a blitzkrieg pace. "Tengo Ganas," the first single, percolates with insistent percussion and elephantine horns. A ballad version of the tune is more subdued but connects with its melodic hook. However, it's the theme that hits home. The hero is trying to pick up the broken pieces of his life and move on to a new love, but he's haunted by a ghost in his past. Nostalgia is evoked on "Si Me Preguntan," which is in the old son montuno style that recalls the smoky club heyday of Willie Colon and Ruben Blades. --Ramiro Burr

Great CD! Travesia not only has some tracks with the awesome salsa that Victor Manuelle usually performs, but also some intersting pop tracks. I usually don't enjoy when salseros try to enter other music genres, but Victor Manuelle did a very good job with this transition. You will get good salsa with old arrangements in tracks like 'Si Me Preguntan' and then get a nice vallenato arrangement in 'Yo Te Dare.'

My only complain is that I'm tired of salseros recording two versions (one salsa and one ballad) of a song in their CDs. Let's get back to pure, good old salsa!!

Thats about all i can say about this... this man DOES NOT SING SALSA at least not danceable salsa. He does some pop/bolero mescla that i personally cannot stand and MARC ANTHONY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN GET AWAY WITH THAT TYPE OF SALSA.I give this CD 2 stars b/c most of the songs are so played out that its cool to listen but if you want real salsa Victor Manuelle is not the artist you are looking for.Ray Barreto,Ismael Miranda,Gran Combo and if i dont stop naming them this review would be very,very long...

Que fallo que hayan salseros como Victor Manuelle. La salsa es conocida por sus temas variados hablando de distintas situaciones de la vida por muchas perspectivas. Victor segun parece solo tiene una cosa interesante en su vida, las mujeres. Le entiendo que sea un mamito y a mi tambien me gusta una mujer caliente, pero que hable de otra cosa. Se me hizo imposible oir el disco de principio a fin. Por eso no lo puedo recomendar.
Al menos tiene una voz buena, que sea eso porque le guste a una gente. Pero parece que quizas este tomando una direccion diferente despues de este disco. Nunca me imaginaria que cantara una version de "La Vida es un Carnaval".

P.S. mire la opcion de "see all my reviews" de Torres, el que escribio su critica antes de mi para que vea cuanto odia a Victor Manuelle.

La musica de Victor Manuelle es floja y no se puede clasificar como Salsa. En realidad es un sonsonete recyclado en cada disco. Como Boricua e instructor de baile de salsa puedo decir que las personas se frustran tratando de bailar salsa con la musica de Victor Manuelle. Les digo que si quieren escuchar y bailar buena Salsa escogan la musica de la Sonora Poncena, Willie Rosario y El Gran Combo entre otros..........Eso si es musica de verdad y Salsa Boricua...........

Victor Manuelle ha cantado salsa tan buena desde que empezó y con este álbum demuestra verdaderamente lo esplendido que es y su talento de cantar la salsa tan rica. Aunque no se puede hacer un álbum con todas sus canciones mejores por razón que hay demasiadas canciones buenas, las que escojieron al hacer éste son muy buenas y chéveres para bailar o para escuchar. Yo vivo en Ecuador y siempre la gente por aquí disfruta de las ritmas de su salsa en las discotecas o en los bares.

This is just pure professionalism. These past 2 years have been great for Victor Manuelle, and he deserves it. His music, his voice, everything makes this cd outstanding. I had the chance to go see him in Washington D.C. a few days ago. The concert was very much like the one on the cd and he sang a few more songs from his past productions. I hope they release a DVD of one of his concerts soon. This cd is a must-have.

Who's that CLOWN ("a music fan")??? How would you dare to compare marc anthony with Victor Manuelle???? If you are a tru salsa fan like you said you are, you wouldn't have said that marc anthony is better than Victor Manuelle or viceversa. Right there this clown showed his emotions before reasoning... can't compare... do you know what marc anthony does with his songs? do you know what a "sonero" is? Finally, do you know what SALSA is?

There's a couple of reviews that are comparing Victor Manuelle and Marc Anthony. On what grounds is Marc Anthony a better salsero? Marc Anthony has more of a singing range than Victor Manuelle but has nothing of a "sonero". Victor Manuelle's music is more danceable and there are no soft slow stuff to skip on the discs. My point is that they have two different styles (both remarkable at it). Marc is more popular than Victor in the US. Victor is more popular than Marc in PR. Size (geographical)doesn't matter because obviously we all know where are the true salsa fans (P.R.). Sure Marc Anthony is probably more popular in China from a possible marketing advantage, but then again, how many people out there listen to salsa regularly.
Let me finally review this disc. Great sounding CD. Aggresive and danceable. Lost a star because of track 3 (fuchi)

Being Puerto Rican from San Juan and having that Rumba in the blood, I definetely think Victor Manuelle goes beyond Marc Anthony's "Americanized Salsa".Of course everybody knows that Marc Anthony sells more, but just because there is more marketing along his music, si eres Puertorriqueno de verdad tu sabes where the roots come from, and Victor Manelle puts it down in this CD like in all he has done...Que Viva Puerto Rico!!!gracias mil

This cd by Victor Manuelle definitely takes modern salsa to it's next dimension. Prior to this album Victor Manuelle was not a well known name when salsa artists were mentioned however with the release of this recording, his third, Victor has become the only salsa artist or "sonero" that gets recognition by many of salsa's greatest artists and avid fans.This album is the most complete display of musical originality (while still maintaining traditional salsa sounds and rhythms) combined with a strong expressive voice by a young promising artist. It would be unjust to praise only one song in this album because all are praiseworthy for their sound, rhythm and exceptional lyrics. This cd is a fine display of musical talent by a salsa artist who will become a member of the exclusive club of artists whose salsa has been titled "salsa coleccionista". Basically this cd or any other by Victor Manuelle will validate the praise and recognition that he has earned.

Este es un disco grabado en vivo que Gilberto Santa Rosa hizo con Victor Manuelle en 2001. Aunque ellos tienen un gran catologo de musica entre los dos, su desempeño en esta grabacion en vivo fue un poco mediocre, mayormente por Victor Manuelle. La cancion que grabaron en el estudio, cual lanzaron para promocionar este disco en octubre del 2005, fue bueno, pero no gran cosa, especialmente algo de estos salseros. La voz de Victor Manuelle en algunos temas sonaron mal como He Tratado, Asi Es la Mujer, Tu Volveras, etc., que se le entrecorta la voz y hasta por poco se le safa un par de gallos, por algo lo llaman mas el "Gallo De Isabela" que el "Sonero De La Juventud", ya que la "juventud" se ha inclinado mas hacia otros generos como el reggeaton en esta decada. A Gilberto su peor en este disco fue en la cancion "Vivir Sin Ella", uno esperando que termine su soneo mongo en esta cancion, y el publico no ayudo coreando fuera de tiempo. Pero el disco tuvo tambien sus buenos momentos, pero la peor entre los dos juntos fue la cancion "Controversia", le salio monga, mas monga que lo que dice Calle 13 en la cancion, "Japon".

La musica de Victor Manuelle es floja y no se puede clasificar como Salsa. En realidad es un sonsonete recyclado en cada disco. Como Boricua e instructor de baile de salsa puedo decir que las personas se frustran tratando de bailar salsa con la musica de Victor Manuelle. Les digo que si quieren escuchar y bailar buena Salsa escogan la musica de la Sonora Poncena, Willie Rosario y El Gran Combo entre otros..........Eso si es musica de verdad y Salsa Boricua...........

For some reason I had bought Infconfundibles first, nad I loved it. I got it for PERO DILE, and i said wow! he is neat. Then I ventured out and I had heard Que habria sido de mi a lot on the radio. I caught myself singing it for some reason, even though I don't even have it. i like a lot of the songs on Ironias. SE LO RECOMIENDO A TODOS! comprenlo ya!

This is definately a must-have for all 6 billion people on this planet. Although not as grown-up as Willie Colon, his songs have the fire of passion and the rhythm of the Carribean in them.

He does one famous remake: Como quisiera Decirte that made Los Angeles Negros famous. My favorite remake though was Coccianti's Bella Sin Alma. Victor Manuelles's voice contains passion. But musically this cd is very bad compared to Ironias. He needs to get a good arranger. The arrangement on the songs are monotonous not only within the cd but within the salsa scene. Well,, time keeps on going he is getting older and his potential dimmer....

Frankly, I can't distinguish Victor Manuelle's recent recordings from his last few. The title of the CD is inconfundible and honestly I'm confused as to why he would continue to have such a watered down, repitious sound. The only CD's worth mentioning is his first two, "justo a Tiempo" and "Solo Contigo". These recordings showcased Victor's talent with nothing less than perfect arrangers, the likes of Ramon Sanchez, Tommy Villariny, and Ernesto Sanchez to name a few. However, after riding the Sergio George wave (who is probably the most over rated and worst salsa arranger today) his sound became extremely fabricated. Before, I would look forward to a Victor Manuelle recording. Now I don't know if I'm listening to a new song or one from the Sergio George era. I can't understand why Ramon Sanchez, for as great as he is, continues to give in to Victor Manuelle's horrible sound. When Victor was belting out songs from "solo contigo" he was argubly one of the best, clearly the best in his age group. Unfortunately, his sound has gotten so tired that I would rather listen to a Frankie Negron record - Now you know that's bad. Don't waste the time or money, it's not worth it.

If you are a rumbero like me you must own this new and electrefing CD.All of Victor manuelle's CD'S are the bomb but this one stands out because of the great songs and his awesome salsero voice.You must play this at your partys in other to be an awesome rumba. VIVAN LAS RUMBAS.

Este es Victor Manuelle a su mejor despues de 11 anos de trayectoria. Todas las canciones estan exceptional en los arreglos, letras y voz, y las pocas que no las son se salvan por la belleza de las otras canciones. Canciones como "No Eres La Mujer," "Me Da Lo Mismo," "Como Se Lo Explico A El Corazon," "Quisiera Inventar," "Te Voy A Encontrar," "Instinto y Deseo," y "Ni Un Dia Mas," hace que este disco sea unos de los mejores discos de salsa romantica de el nuevo milenio.

este es uno de los mejores discos que tengo, no soy salcero pero este disco fue el que me entro al movement, cada una de sus canciones es como oir una historia de amor que se repite dia a dia en mi vida, que siga pa' lante que es uno de los mejores talentos que haya salido de mi isla del encanto.

I don't think that since Ironias he has gotten a good album out. If you are like me that you kinda did not like Inconfundible well this one is like INconfundible. I did like the arrangement of Asi Fue. So i'll give him 3 stars.

After four successful albums with Sergio George's signature urban NY sound, Victor Manuelle returned to a more PR sound with this album. All the songs are great, could do without the last song. One annoying element is the back up singer's sound on "Asi Fue". It is also heard on other songs from the past albums.
