5 out of 5 stars Very calming and relaxing drumming.......2007-05-08

This is a very nice CD when I put it in to play my whole house relaxed and clamed down and just listened very nice. The drumming is fantatsic, but if you do not like native american flutes not a CD for you in some parts of the CD the flutes are very loud. But I really enjoy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Drum Medicine.......2007-01-12

I really enjoy both CD's Sacred Spirit Drums and Drum Medicine. I live in an area of very little resource for this type of purchase- I was very happy to find what I wanted online- also very glad to be able to listen before I purchased- would not have bought them without that. Service was the best- shipping was also very good.. I will consider this type of purchase again when needed.

5 out of 5 stars Native American Alive and Well.......2007-01-13

The music on this CD is moving and inspiring. The composition is excellent and it will move your very soul. Great for massage practice if you want your clients to experience something a little different. Great traveling music too!

4 out of 5 stars Really good album!.......2006-10-11

I've not bought new age CDs in a while, so I decided to try something different. I found out about this album by listening to internet radio (www.sky.fm) all day at the office. To me, this album doesn't have one "bad" song in it. All of them are good, but of course my favorite is "Celebration". That track is definitely "feel good" music. I mean, feel REALLY good :) Also worth mentioning: the last track, "Spirit Nation" is unexpectedly "upbeat", funky, and some parts sound like they're quasi-rapping in their native-American tongue. It's almost funny, but also pretty damn good once you get into it.
I've been listening to this CD almost non-stop for 2 days now... you gotta check it out.

3 out of 5 stars Dynamic collision of cultures and musical traditions.......2002-09-30

This is a rather good, if sometimes predictable, groove-laden blend of native american shamanism and new-age mysticism, infused with a dose of high-tech electronica. At the heart of Spirit Nation is the duo of guitar wizard Steve Rosen and keyboard maestro Jimmy Waldo. The album's strengths -- native american culture and spirituality, and rock-solid muscianship -- are frequently sabotaged by the bland new-age gloss of the arrangements, and a tendancy towards robotic drumming / drum-machine programming. Oh for some Bonham-esque thunder or Bruford-ish off-time jazz-rock flash to grab the compositions by the scruff of the neck! Still, the spiritual vibe at the heart of the project, and the moments of shining brilliance make this worth repeat listenings, since "Spirit Nation" shows enormous potential. When the project steps away from new-age cliches into the embrace of its native american heritage, or strives for something imaginative by exploring ideas found in modern progressive electronica, the album comes alive. This makes up for the fact that the composers tred dangerously close to lazily recycling the same formulaic set of ideas. Peripherally of interest to fans of progressive rock because of the strong keyboards, and Waldo's obvious understanding of the emotional impact in the retro sound of mellotron strings and choir.

5 out of 5 stars A Native American "Deep Forest".......2001-11-04

Absolutely terrific!! I bought it at the Navajo Tribal Museum in Window Rock AZ. Previously heard it on Hearts of Space. If you like Enigma, B-Tribe, Deep Forest, you'll love this, too.

4 out of 5 stars Heritage? Whatever - I like the music........2001-04-26

I bought this CD in Grand Teton National Park - you know those nature gift shop displays that advertise "promoting Native American welfare." The listening previews sounded cool so I took a risk. I wasn't dissapointed; is some really great music. Most of the songs do sound very similar, but when they're all good, you can't complain, right? I'm into a lot of contemporary new age (Enigma, Delerium, Enya) and this fits into my collection perfectly. I wanted to review it so you guys would help me bring it out of obscurity! My favorites are "She Sleeps Beside the Moon" and "Wankatakiya."

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant world fusion.......2001-11-08

After creating several works of synthesized world fusion (Fourth World is a real standout), Jon Hassell decided to go for the real thing and teamed up with a well-known percussion group from Burkina Faso, Farafina. He took great pains to insure that the group completely retained its characteristic sound--that all elements of the ensemble were heard clearly. Farafina is, in fact, both percussion and vocals, and the blend of these with Hassell's characteristic "mutant trumpet" and electronics is inspiring.

Brian Eno did much of the mixing here and was completely in tune with Hassell's approach. J.A. Deane, another frequent collaborator with Hassell, is also on hand to lend some of his unique trombone electronics. But the overall feel of the music is strongly African, skillfully melded with studio technology.

The album was made in 1992, and while it is not one of the earliest world fusion works, it is, in retrospect, one of the best. These days it is all too common, when creating an album of worldbeat music, not only to try mixing everything--including the kitchen sink--into one track, but also to bridge the gap between commercial and "ethnic" music. Unfortunately, in most cases, the emphasis is heavily on the commercial side, with the result that the music sounds like a really thin, watery version of what could have been something great.

This one is something great.

4 out of 5 stars Would be a perfect soundtrack for "Mutant Message".......1998-12-19

Perhaps the most acoustic of all Jon Hassell albums, "Flash of the Spirit" unites him with the African rhythm group Farafina, who provide a vivid rhythmic foundation for Hassell's trumpeted meanderings. A single, sustained note starts the proceedings and, one by one, awakens the other intruments, which pulse, rise, fall and return throughout the hour-long album. The second half seems like a more pensive restating of the first half--that is, until "Blue(Prayer)," which closes the album. "Blue" is twelve minutes of hypnotic dreamtime propelled by a two-note bass line that simulates the deep breathing of a mountain. It's all a vicarious experiencing of indigenous human life; it is surprising not to hear more of Hassell on movie soundtracks. An earthy harbinger of "City: Works of Fiction," "Flash of the Spirit" is a hard-to-find jewel in Hassell's amazing body of work.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Cool Techno-Tribal Groove.......2005-03-01

Wow ! This is a real departure from Zingaia's earlier releases and I love where they take me on this new musical adventure. Super cool techno-tribal beats, world rythyms and sampled voices from Africa and the Near and Far East blend beautifully. This release really transports me into a whole other world. While I really love the vocals from Abbi Spinner and Katlyn Breene from the previous releases, this new drum heavy trance inducing excursion from Zingaia is a complete a joy and an amazing listening experience.

1 out of 5 stars Dissapointing!.......2005-02-16

I might like this album better if I didn't already have a fairly large collection of albums by Putamayo World Music which are much better than this! The reason I mention that is that this album reminds of the things that company releases, just not nearly as good.

I have both of their other releases which are superb! They are all about Sacred Sex and praise the Lady and the Lord. This album is bland and boring compared to the other two. The only good thing I can really find to say about it is that it might be enjoyable to drum along with it.

However, I have several other albums I like better which are also good for drumming along with. If thier next album isn't any better I will have to revise my opinion of Zingaia!

5 out of 5 stars Soles on Earth is Out of this World!!!.......2004-10-27

This latest release by Zingaia (their third) is vastly different than their previous releases, both of which I absolutely love. Where their first release "Beneath the Veil" is a trance journey into the seductive heart of the Goddess, and their second release "Dancers of Twilight" featuring the alluring vocals of Abbi Spinner, further develops the original theme, deepening and expanding the voyage into musical spirit; with their latest release "Soles on Earth" Michael & Katlyn Breene and crew launch into a tribal poly-rhythmic trance dance groove that is no less than phenomenal. Middle Eastern, East Indian and African rhythms combine with sampled vocals from around the world to produce an album that sets the mind, body and spirit free to dance joyously to the pulsing rhythms of life. Definitively the most eclectic of their releases yet, Soles on Earth will stir your soul and get your feet moving. I give it my highest recommendation.

I love Spirit Nation, although there are similarities between Spirit Nation and Sacred Spirit, I strongly feel Spirit Nation 'DOES NOT' copy Sacred Spirit.

Instead it has it's own style of music with vocal chants and ambient drum beats.

My most favorite is 'Celebration'. If you love Sacred Spirit's Yeha-Noha, then you'll love Celebration, it too is very beautiful and timeless.

I give this album 2 thumbs up for it's beautiful music and once again... Spirit Nation DOES NOT copy Sacred Spirit... It has it's own style of music...

5 out of 5 stars Spirits and Angels come together.......2003-12-01

This is a fantastic New Age album. I am definetly going to look into more from this record company and especially Rose Moore. Rose Moore is a Native American who reminds me very much of Enya even though Enya is Celtic, not Native American. Rose writes thought provoking, beautiful lyrics; which are blended with great instrumentals.
"In the sand is buried a treasure/A thousand years ago left to me/I am only part of this mystery/Part of the gentle wind blowing/Softly the wind is blowing"-taken from 'Softly the Wind'
In the booklet, there are notes explaining the songs, which is very nice. Enya fans will definetly love this album-but I don't want to sound like Rose is an Enya copycat. Any New Age fan should get a copy, your collection is not complete without it.

5 out of 5 stars Rose Moore is truly Blessed By The Angels.......2002-11-23

      Rose would like to thank:
...the creator for giving me the gifts to sing and write songs...

Native American Rose Moore is the newest label mate to well-known artists such as Mythos, B-Tribe, Neal Schon and Sasha Lazard. However, it's with Higher Octave's Grammy-nominated Sacred Spirit (which is a group I highly recommend!) that Rose has lent her vocals to in the past with the unforgettable "Delta Dela" and "The Cradlesong", which was made popular thanks in part to the 'Pure Moods II' compilation. This is her first solo project and it proves that she can make incredible music on her own (along with a little help from producer "The Brave"). This album was written within the course of 6 years, and in various locations, but I can already tell that this is going to be a very underrated new age album. 'Spirit Of Silence' deserves a ton of recognition but to me this album will forever remain embedded in my heart of hidden treasures.

"Why / E Si Do Maya E Si" was written for those who woke for the last time on the morning of September 11th.
In the native culture a spirit song helps acknowledge those departed and aid their journey into the next world.

"Softly The Wind" is probably my favorite song, which is an ode to that which is unseen in the realm of spirit, but which at times we all can feel. ... 'I am only part of this mystery. Part of the gentle wind blowing. Softly the wind is blowing...'

The lyrics (unlike most songs these days) are all meaningful and heartfelt with ethereal melodies and a powerful yet soothing vocal style that will most likely appeal to fans of Aeone, Enya, Eri Sugai, and maybe even Sinead O'Connor.

And because amazon doesn't currently have a tracklisting up for 'Spirit Of Silence', here it is:

      01. Introduction To Rose's Music 2:56
      02. O Spirit Tree 4:57
      03. Nanita 4.58 ... This is another personal favorite.
      04. Master Of Silence 1:30
      05. O Ecclesia / Zu Ni A 3:59
      06. Blessed By The Angels 3:24
      07. Softly The Wind 5:02
      08. Dela Dela 3:56
      09. Light After Darkness 2:55
      10. Why / E Si Do Maya E Si 4:50
      11. River Run 3:26
      12. Heaven & Sky 3:33
      13. Outro 2:49

      This is Highly recommended!

      5 out of 5 stars ENIGMATIC.......2002-10-29

Roose Moore's cd is absolutely wondrous. More importantly, it is produced by "THE BRAVE". If you are an enigmatic fan, you must not go without any cd he is involved with.(b-tribe, divine works, sacred spirits, classical spirits, morocan spirit, etc.)

5 out of 5 stars The Spirit rises when I hear this CD.......2002-10-09

I find myself humming the tunes and reciting the words to these songs as I get ready in the morning ... anticipating getting into my car and pressing CD1 to hear the strains of Rose Moore's enchanting words over the compelling music by the Brave (the same one who did Sacred Spirit and Sacred Spirit II and B-Tribe from Higher Octave Music.) Overdubbed with multi-layered synth it has an Enya like sound, with beautiful melodies that nurture deep introspection -- but the words are clearly the revelations of a woman on a spiritual path. Rose also sang on the Sacred Spirit II album and there is a track on this album that is very reminiscent of that sound, but with lyrics that resonate to those who seek the answers to the meaning of life.

With music that reminds me of Adiemus, or Enigma, or Mythos -- it is hard to categorize or pigeon hole into a recognizable format. The album is a whole story from the first intro track to the last -- not just a bunch of songs put together -- but a full collection of stories set to some very mezmerizing music. BUY this CD -- you will not be sorry. But a warning... you might not "get" the whole concept or beauty of it, until you listen to the various parts a few times through. Then you will find, like I did, that you can't get this CD out of your head -- and you just have to hear it again!
