Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars 'a K is a K is a K' is a brilliant remix album.......2000-10-31

The fun thing about Kahimi Karie, japanese turned french shibuya kei diva queen is that she is streched so many different ways. She doesn't write her own stuff, but instead picks really great people to write for her. 'a K is a K is a K', which is the remix cd (titled on amazon as KK remix) is a brilliant departure from kkkkk, while kkkkk was mostly a soft and very french kitschy album, the remix album mostly dumps all that in favor of a wide variety of grooves and electronic jams. The cd begins with Konishi Yasuharu's remix of the single, '1000 20th century chairs' and ends with Hirohisa Horie's version. Both songs, being the two most shibuya kei styled songs on the album, are brilliant. The album then procedes to enter an electronic atmosphere; a remix of 'what are you wearing' that truly sounds like a runway groove, and a very eerie retelling of 'symphonies of beethoven'. To make a long story short, the album uses a lot of electronic styling, very much like some of the material karie sings on her debut album, 'larme de crocodile'. however, while the pieces on 'larme' made the album seem abrubt and without any kind of tie to bring it all together, this remix album ties all the different stylings together very nicely. In fact, I must admit that this is the very first remix cd I've liked! Though there are some weaker moments when one remix or another drags on a little two long, most the cd is brilliant!
