Very Nice Album.......2001-05-11
Some friends of ours just brought this CD back from France, and it's a real gem. I've listened to it over and over, yet like it more with every listening (rare to find an album like that these days). I can't speak for his earlier work, but this album is a breath of fresh air from the homogenized stuff so heavily marketed here in the States. Nice songs with interesting arrangements and wonderful production. A clear "Euro" feel to it, the album is sophisticated without pretention. Reminds me of times in France back in the 80's. A great addition to anyones music library...This guy is definitely worth checking out!
THE TIME TO MATURITY.......2000-07-17
What a progress ! Etienne Daho is one of the rare french singer trying again and again to evoluate. "Corps et âmes" is the definitive proof of this statement. After the misunderstanding "Eden" (too techno, too dance...), Daho comes to a simplier music. But simple means not easy-listening music. So "Corps et âmes" is like these jewels which shines when they are put in a pretty box. Each song is a great moment. " Le brasier" is very powerful, very emotional. "Nage indienne" is a little pretty "morceau de bravoure", and "L'année du dragon" is terribly efficient. But it will be a mistake to catch a look to each song separatately. " Corps et âmes" is worse listening like a single part. A concept album ? May be a great word. But surely as a "conceptive" album. Which reveals his treasures each time you listen to it...

Customer Reviews:
The Best of Daho!.......2004-07-08
I have several CDs by E. Daho and treasure each one, but this is the absolute best so far! I discovered his music while vacationing last October in New Orleans. It was the background music at a shop on the French Quarter that specializes in all that is French. It is a beautiful CD and a lovely reminder of the time I spent in New Orleans. I play it in my car and at home, at night, and cherish that I am sung to sleep by a beautiful young Frenchman! It's not Pop, it's not Rock, it's a smooth, relaxing voyage into French culture and a way of life that seems too far away for a regular American lady like me. Beautiful lyrics, sweet, smooth tunes with just a tiny touch of 60's sound to the American ear. A lovely fantasy and a rich experience. Highly Recommended!
Lounge music par excellence.......2003-04-07
This is the album to put on to make your loved one melt and do whatever it is you want them to do..... The music is lush and his voice is beautiful. This album is much less Pop than his previous efforts. Excellent.
This time it's personal.......2002-03-31
With "Corps & Armes", France's 'King of Pop' ditches the electro-influences of the 'Eden' period and concentrates on timeless songwriting and simple instrumentation, only bringing in the string section where it's needed. The album has a more 'personal' feel, and the result can often be quite moving indeed, particularly on tracks like "San Antonio de la Luna", the Bacharach-influenced "La Baie", and Daho's adaptation of the Carly Simon song "Touched by the Sun" into "L'Annee du Dragon". This set of songs is beautifully structured and produced throughout. I love Etienne Daho's voice - it is simple, warm and distinctive. Recommended tracks: "Le Brasier" (if you like "Angels" by Robbie Williams then this is for you), "Make Believe", "La Nage Indienne" and of course the opening and closing "Ouverture"/"San Antonio..." which brings the album full circle. I bought this in Paris two years ago and it still sounds beautiful. I would recommend that you purchase this CD.
a little heavy on the "quality".......2001-04-11
A very beautifully produced and sounding album, this most recent work by Daho also unfortunately sounds thematically bloated. After the near-perfect pop of "Eden", Daho's obviously wanted to create some kind of "masterwork": this lends many of the tracks an undeserved pompousness - hah! even speaking of it sounds pretentious! There are some great moments, though, especially the melodies of the title track, "Le Brasier", "Rendez-vous a Vedra" and the very Bacharach-sounding horn arrangement of "La Baie".
