5 out of 5 stars Heavy metal funk.......2007-05-14

Great vocals, great music, songs all different,if you like Glenn Hughes you will like this band!.I would not class this as a hair band thier music is more talented than that.I never heard of them before and took a chance and I was really pleased; that I ordered the other 2 cd's of thiers. They play heavy metal, melodies, foot stompen, funk metal, that you will play the cd over and over again!

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2005-08-31

This was a band that was a welcome relief from the over abundance of the hair bands of hard rock that had made the scene a bit stale. Guns N'Roses had taken over and had begun to stir it up a bit, but were bent on self destruction and all those other bands were clamering to change their sound to make it sound "modern"; a band like Electric Boys comes out and makes a funky, mellow, and even heavy album that just fills in a gap. It's sorta a mix of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and some other bands like Kings X, Saigon Kick, and even maybe Extreme to name a few that kinda snuck in to fill in time before the Grunge movement took over. Sadly this sound faded all too quickly. This fits more into an alternative rock format that maybe a band like Jane's Addiction might have been kings of.
From the opening of "Psychedelic Eyes", and the anthemic stripper theme "Lips 'N Hips" which sounds kinda cheesy by todays standards I admit. But later on it get's funky, and it get's so heavy and melodic you can't resist. It just sounds like they are having a good time making the record. "The Change" just lifts you up, a great song if you are indeed heading for a change in your life perhaps. So many great rock songs on here. Groovus Maximus is a pretty good CD also, and I'm curious to hear the newest "Freewheelin'" , but for now this will do for me.

5 out of 5 stars psychedelic synth masterpiece foreshadowing so much of what was to come in the landscape of electronic music.......2006-10-16

Although it's only a very small section inside our store, many of our most devout and curious shoppers have found gem after gem in our Italian Prog section. Franco Battiato is one of those gems for sure. One of those endlessly creative artists who completely defies categorization. Sweeping in scope and eccentric in all the right ways it's no surprise that Battiato has finally begun to get the attention he so rightly deserves, as folks like Jim O'Rourke have gone out of their way to champion these forward thinking sounds from decades ago.

Released in 1973, Pollution is a psychedelic synth masterpiece foreshadowing so much of what was to come in the landscape of electronic music. With out-of-this-world synths that make Rick Wakeman's playing seem pedestrian, and an otherworldly dimension orchestrated to perfection. Like David Axelrod getting super psychedelic and arranging a record for Ash Ra Tempel. So extravagant yet totally coherent. These sounds are so alive, so full of color, wonder and beauty. It goes without saying that as more folks discover this record it will probably be sampled to death, and we wouldn't be all that surprised if Four Tet, DJ Shadow, or Plaid hadn't already borrowed a bit here and there. Like Jean Claude Vannier's L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches, this is an early '70s psych-prog masterpiece that is an across the board AQ favorite!

5 out of 5 stars Superb Italian avant garde/prog .......2005-12-19

This is a very interesting recording of experimental/avant-garde/prog released by Franco Battiato in 1973 and is one of two proggish albums he made in the early 1970's (the other being Fetus, 1972). Based upon what I have read, by the time of L'Egitto Prima delle Sabbie (1978), his music had become completely avant-garde and made for "very difficult listening", which makes me want to snap these later recordings up all that much more. Given the complexity of this music, it is inconceivable that Battiato could have ever been a pop star, yet he was before 1972. He pretty much threw the pop approach out the window for this recording however, which consists largely of experimental passages on synthesizers including the VCS 2 (this is a new one for me) and the VCS 3, in addition to a tiny bit of pipe organ on Il silenzio del rumore. With regard to synthesizers, every band member with the single exception of the drummer plays one form of the VCS or the other. Furthermore, even though the VCS was used more as a sound generator than a melodic instrument, the tones employed are smooth and clean, i.e. not distorted. The pieces on the album are arranged such that tracks 1-4 form a suite of sorts that starts with a recording of classical music (it sounds like a waltz) over which Battiato provides spoken word passages in Italian (spoken word passages also close the suite). The four pieces alternate heavily rocking sections of drums/bass/guitar (sounds somewhat like YS by Il Balletto di Bronzo, 1972), with experimental passages played on synths. Plancton starts of with some spacey sounds on the VCS and then gradually, acoustic guitar is incorporated along with some gloomy vocal parts. The closing segment of Plancton is heavily influenced by Italian folk music albeit with the added twist of odd sounds generated on the VCS (notice a pattern here?). The title track Pollution provides more of the same, and at 8'48" is the longest piece on the album. The closing track is a personal favorite and just consists of heavily echoed/delayed, very sad and gothic sounding classically influenced synth lines (it almost sounds like a choir but not quite), on top of which Battiato half sings/half weeps his way through the piece (which ultimately gives way to his completely breaking down in fits of sobbing). Pretty cool stuff that is highly recommended to all fans of Italian prog and experimental rock. Sulle Corde Di Aries (1973) marks the beginning of his "more avant-garde, less prog" phase although the album is excellent.

      5 out of 5 stars Funk-O-Metal.......2006-12-21

This not your average Hair-Metal Band. I loved the first one, but this one is better. Of the 30 bands I listened to in 1992, this one still sounds awesome. The energy on this album is frickin' incredible. It has the pump-you-up energy of late 80's metal without the cheesiness, but with the 70's funk that makes you want to get up and go. Any fan of 80's-90's metal that regrets the musical malaise since Nirvana detoured the music industry should pick this up. This is some finger-lickin hardcore.

How can you have an ACDC tribute album without Highway To Hell. The music on this album is very good, but is unfullfilling without the aforemenioned number. I encourage them to make a second CD with more ACDC tunes on it, to really cover all the bases.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD!!!!!!.......2003-12-19

I think that the reviewer that gave this CD a single star has not heard this CD because:

      1. It is an excellent CD
      2. The guy who did it, did the Coldplay CD
      3. The site he gave is the Record Label that this CD is on and this CD can be bought there

I have listened to this CD over and over again and it is one of my favorite string tribute CDs. I own all of the CDs that this group has put out and if you want to see a list of all of the CDs they have done, you can check out their String Tribute Forum at:

i respect the whole neo-classical thing, but this cd is bad. sounds like somone sequenced the songs in their synthesizer. check out http://www.thetributeto.com/acdc/ . they perform their tributes, and do it well. i haven't heard their ac/dc tribute, but their other tributes (linkin park, 311, coldplay) are awesome.

      5 out of 5 stars Totally Suprised!!!.......2003-09-01

I read about this CD on an AC/DC Fan site and they had a link to purchase it here. I bought the CD without hearing any clips or anything. So, buying it sight unseen, made me feel a little aprehensive.

Well, when it arrived I couldn't wait. I took it with me to work and played it in the car on the way. WHAT A GREAT CD & A GREAT IDEA!!! I love this CD! After hearing how well done this CD was, I decided to do something special for my wife ....and .... I took the next day off from work (which was a Friday) and prepared a wonderful steak dinner while my wife was at her job. I got a really good bottle of wine and I set the table with our finest table settings ... Candles lit and everything prepared ...When she got home, I had the candles burning, the lights were out, the table was set and I started the CD.... KAHPOWW!!! She freaked completely out! Needless to say, we had a wonderful time and what a way to romance my Rock & Roll Queen!!!

We've been fans of AC/DC since the 80s and this is probably one of our favorite AC/DC CDs, now!

I would suggest this CD to anyone who loves AC/DC and wants to add some spark to their romance .... We have candlelit dinners a couple times a month now and this CD is the main attraction!!!

"Critcal Exploder" is NOT for the weak-eared. Japanese thrashers Exclaim tear through track after track of fast, chaotic, and most of all, distorted hardcore punk, similar to bands like Charm and Idol Punch.
Exclaim's recording style is more blown out and fuzzy than noise punk gods Confuse or Gai, and that's saying something. Most songs sound like a blur of feedback, near blast-beat drums and screaming coming through a blown out speaker... but that's the point. This will scare away the most die-hard thrashers within a few tracks, and indeed, this is tough to listen to all the way through. But if your ears can take the beating, Exclaim uses an interesting way to get one to actively listen to their disc. This isn't background music -- it grabs you by the throat and makes you say uncle!
The tracks from the "Out of Suit" 7" tacked onto the end are more listenable, less fuzzed out, but with the same spastic thrash style. "No Skate No Thrash" is a classic in the making.
        Good stuff.

The other reviewer is reviewing the wrong New Pollution single. As for this one, Lemonade is one of the stranger Beck b-sides you'll find... it alternates between thrashy-Beck-punk to pseudo-psych-folk (or something like that) anyhow, it's pretty fun, and catchy. The remix of New Pollution done here by the ever popular Mario C. has a middle eastern vibe with a few more beats thrown in... a much darker version of New Pollution and I actually like it better.

3 out of 5 stars New pollution CD single.......2001-10-22

Well, Nothing special about the "aphex twin remix" i think it isn't a good work ,nothing about "New Pollution" (you must already know it) but look at "Electric Music and the Summer People".It's the original version differing from the well-known one, that you can find in the "Stray Blues,Collection of B sides" and in the "Cold Brains single",in the sound . A continuous line of distort guitar and the usual electronic madness closing the song, features this strange version. You have to check it up !
