Best Pablo album.......2000-06-23

This is simply the best collection of Pablo's songs out there. Why? On his studio albums, he tends to smother everything in strings. Here, he's just accompanied by his three piece band and some great Brazilian artists like Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque. Best tracks: "Acto de Fe" and "Yo Pisare las Calles Nuevamente."

Luiz Eça and Vitor Assis Brazil live! (But not on this CD.).......2000-07-14

Luiz Eça (of Tamba Trio fame) was an enormously talented pianist and a briliant arranger to boot, while Vítor Assis Brasil was probably the most inventive saxophone player ever to come out of Brazil. Sad to say, this CD, recorded in Rio in the late 70's, does neither of them justice. The playing wanders along aimlessly, with both men sounding like they're not quite all there (which they probably weren't.) The recording quality is appalling. In sum, this CD is a mess in every way.

If you want to discover (or rediscover) these giants of Brazilian jazz, you'd be better off looking at their other (ANY other) recordings. I know what I'm talking about - I have most of them, and they're almost invariably of a very high standard.

This is a great live CD of Pato and the Reggae Revolution in Brazil. All the songs are lively and upbeat and the sound is great. My favorite song is Bubblin Hot. It sounds so much better on this CD than on the original that it came out on. If you're looking for great dancehall reggae, Pato is the man. His music is so upbeat that it gives new meaning to reggae!
