The album grabbed elements from everything that was happening in Brazilian music at the time. In Rio the heavy percussive sambas had developed into the more lyrical samba cancao; the music of the poor where the main themes are love and spirituality, repression and sadness.

The result is an atmospheric album of new material rich with the spirit of Africa in Brazil. Playing on the album are Wilson Des Neves, Neco, and Marinho, all members of the original group 'Os Ipanemas', who were the first to blend elements of the street sound of 'Samba Africano', with the newly emerging bossa nova.
