John Berger, Honolulu Star-Bulletin
The first big Hawaiian Album of the year is this beautiful debut release by Malia Ka`ai.

Product Description
We introduce lovers of Hawaiian music the world over to the pure voice of Malia Ka'ai, on this stellar debut CD. Veteran aficionados of the genre will be reminded of the clear sopranos of Emma Veary and Nalani Olds, while newcomers will delight in Malia's easy command of an all-but-lost vocal styling. Her voice is consistently lovely in a variety of appropriate settings, ranging from solo slack key guitar accompaniment to string quartet. It is truly a work of aloha, to be treasured for years to come.

The music and Malia's beautiful renditions in this her first album is superb! The selections reveal her versatility and range as a solist from the haunting strains of the Maui Waltz to Princess Likelike's best known composition "Ku'u Ipo I Ka He'e Pu'e One". Her voice blends in with the traditional strums of the ukulele. What stands out in my mind is how these songs come out of her upbringing as a child and the memories that were imprinted upon her life. This album truly reflects the depth of Hawaiian folklore that is being supplanted by new generation music. Once you hear Malia sing, you will appreciate how wonderfully talented she is.

Book Description
In this large-scale, postindustrial society, the mass media has become deeply embedded into the lifestyles of everyday citizens. This book examines the real, imagined, and potential effects of the mass media on individuals and society. The book explores the processes through which the mass media is enabled and constrained by such factors as technology, law, industry structure, and occupational careers, accounting for the vast changes that have developed in recent years. This book is divided into two parts. Part I defines mass communication and locates its role in social life. Part II considers the factors which influence media content, providing insight into how the industry operates. Sociologists, Communication and Mass Media specialists, film, music, and pop culture critics, and enthusiasts of these fields.
