Editorial Reviews
Deeply rooted in the Sufi tradition in their intention and inspiration, Taneen creates unique, original melodies with an authentic fusion of Western and Persian musical influences. All members of Taneen are Sufi salekin (students) and their music springs from their inner practice and spiritual discipline. A celebration of the heart's longing to feel the connection to the source of mystery behind this reality, their music is an offering intended to increase healing and tranquility in the world.
Product Description

Product Description
A journey into the dark infinity of inner space, Dwight Ashleys premiere solo recording is an aural world rich in paradox and contradiction. Ashley characterizes his work as experimental and in fact, the release of the album is itself something of an experiment. Remarking on the body of his work over the past two decades, Ashley muses in the liner notes to his album, I sometimes questioned whether it truly qualified as music. Discrete Carbon asks the listener for a verdict and in so doing, demands a rethinking of exactly what music is, does, and ultimately, means to the listener.Customer Reviews:
some Erie stuff.......2005-03-11
These ambient pieces sound like winter to me. (Course, I received them here in Reno in the midst of an hundred-year snow storm...) Track 3 "katalepsis" shimmers like an ice sculpture in the dark. Track 9 "examined by tweezers" seems a meditation on the modulation of sound passing thru an "empty" medium (the atmosphere perhaps, or maybe one's home as one works with the stereo on in the background).
Musically, I am reminded of the music of Jeff Grienke and of ambient Eno of the Discreet Music period. There is some happy piano music on a hidden track 15 reminding me somewhat of the happy piano music on Aphex Twin's "drukqs." Of the two cds, I think I like Four the best because of its darker edge.

Absolutely Beautiful !.......2004-03-03
I read Sufi poetry in Farsi and in English. I often find myself comparing the translation with the Farsi version. Although the language of Love is universal and unearthly, I must say that the translated lyrics in this CD truly represent the MESSAGE. When I first listened to Taneen's music, I was moved to tears. Their longing, passion and love will definitely touch your soul. Taneen, my heart thanks you!
Poor Rumi must be turning over in his grave..........2003-11-13
"Into Ecstasy" did not meet my expectations at all. I was looking for a kind of Oriental music that would not be sensual, something deeply religious and pacifying. Instead, I got music that sounds like pop or very ordinary New Age music. The lyrics do seem to be derived from Sufi poetry but because most of them are sung in English and by a female singer whose voice is absolutely charmless and unimpressive with what is evidently a modern Western musical accompaniment, the result is totally off the mark. Let me assure you that there is not a single atom of mysticism or religious fervour on this cd.It is simply pop music with a whiff of orientalism.
Buyer beware! This is a complete rip-off. Poor Rumi! He must be turning over in his grave when he hears the name of Sufi used for such musical rubbish...
If you like Oriental religious songs I recommend that you search among albums featuring Sister Marie Keyrouz.
