"I Canti Degli Alpini" is a lovely gift idea for yourself or anyone else who appreciates a nostalgic trip to another time and place--namely Italy. During World War I, the Italian Alpine troops popularized these songs. Sung in Italian with a clarity that echoes lost innocence, both the romance and sorrow of war is depicted.
Haunting melodies such as "Quel Mazzolin di fiore" give a taste of impending loss and the beauty in small things--such as a handful of wild flowers. Other songs talk of the bridges and families left behind. Those who are learning Italian, may also enjoy having a chance to hear some of the songs that have been around for years in Italy, but seldom heard here in the United States. Ciao!
