Purchased as a Christmas Gift..........2007-01-10
Arrived on time and as pictured so I would buy from this seller again!
A "Must Have" Big Band Christmas CD.......2006-07-19
You won't find any "overplayed" selections on this CD. However, because most of the songs are holiday favorites, you will feel the coziness of home at Christmas time. A recent liking to winter weather songs earned "There's Frost On The Moon," "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm," "Little Jack Frost Get Lost" and of course "Winter Weather" favorite positions. If you like big band or vintage Christmas melodies, then this is a "must have" holiday CD. One negative aspect of the CD - no liner notes - was taken care of by another reviewer when he posted the recording dates. In addition, although there are no sacred songs, the festive sounds certainly make up for it. If you can purchase this CD for $10 or less, you won't be disappointed! A good bottle of scotch, a roaring fire and this CD will warm you on a chilly winter's night.
Swinging Christmas.......2005-11-09
I've had this for a few years now and it's one I play often. I enjoy it so much I researched the tracks since there aren't any liner notes. Here's some background on this wonderful disc:
The Christmas Song-Les Brown & Doris Day, this 8/29/46 recording went to #12 on the charts in 1947.
I Want You For Christmas-Russ Morgan, this Brunswick recording dates from 10/20/37.
I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm-Red Norvo & Mildred Bailey, this Brunswick single was recorded 1/8/37 and went to #11 on the charts.
There's Frost on the Moon-Artie Shaw & Peg La Centra, another Brunswick release, recorded 10/30/36, hit #10 on the charts.
White Christmas-Harry James & Marion Morgan. This dates from 10/22/46.
Winter Weather-Benny Goodman with Peggy Lee & Art Lund, recorded 11/27/41. Climbed to #24 on the charts in 1942.
Little Jack Frost Get Lost-Frankie Carle & Marjorie Hughes, recorded in 1947.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer-Lester Lanin & His Orchestra. Lanin was a leading bandleader for NY/East Coast society affairs. This recording is from his 1959 "Christmas Dance Party" LP for the Epic label.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town-Sammy Kaye & the Kaydets, this dates from 1952.
Sleigh Ride-Tex Beneke, this is from a recording made by the alumni of the Glenn Miller band in 1965. Beneke, Ray Eberle and The Modernaires with Paula Kelly all participated, and the album was called "Christmas Serenade in the Glenn Miller Style."
Christmas Night in Harlem-Lester Lanin, another cut from his 1959 album.
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas-Tex Beneke, another track from the 1965 album.
Happy Holidays-Elliot & Cathy Lewis with Ray Noble, probably the least likely track to make it to CD. This comes from a 78 album called "Happy Holidays: A Musical Story" recorded in 1947 but not released until 1949. An early concept album it told the story of a couple's romance over the course of 8 sides on a 4
(78rpm) record set. Elliot Lewis was a major player in radio-actor, producer, director & writer. CBS dubbed him "Mr. Radio." Cathy was his wife, a well known actress herself.
A good companion disc to this is Christmas on the Bandstand, and that one DOES come with liner notes.
Great CD!.......2004-07-26
This is an awesome Christmas cd. It has wonderful old big band christmas songs on it by the original artists. If you like that old big band sound, you must by this cd! You won't be dissappointed!
GREAT Sound!.......2002-12-30
You will not be dissapointed with this CD. As the title suggests, this is the great big band christmas sound that you're after. Every cut is a keeper. Listen to the samples and you'll see what I mean. Buy it, you'll like it!

A perfect martini-and-mistletoe combo, Christmas Cocktails will gaily seduce you with its bevy of nostalgic and occasionally campy holiday fare. Vocal vixens Peggy Lee, Julie London (her "I'd Like You for Christmas" will melt the ice cubes in your fridge), Kay Starr, and Nancy Wilson join forces with perennial crooners such as Lou Rawls, Dean Martin, and the immortal Nat "King" Cole, along with a handful of instrumental big-band numbers and odd, at times cheese-ball-shaped jazz organ pieces from Jimmy McGriff and the flammable Eddie Dundstedter, among others. But the essential item that makes plunking down your pelts for this very chi-chi set is none other than Billy May's lovably kitschy workout called "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer Mambo." It's a scream. The package comes complete with its own cocktail minimanual and the recipes for Hot Toddys and Hot Tom and Jerrys. Garishly retro and naughtily nostalgic, this kind of slinky Christmas gift should probably be illegal in many prudish states. --Martin Keller

LOVE ULTRA LOUNGE! Have most all of them now.......2007-05-12
Nothing can be finer that Ultra Lounge - never a bad thing to say.
Nostalgic holiday songs.......2006-12-26
For an enjoyable beginning or end of the holiday rush, check out Capitol Record's compilation of Christmas tracks that hail back to the late 1950s and 1960s, Ultra-Lounge: Christmas Cocktails, Part One. The cd includes re-mastered recordings gathered for one's nostalgic listening pleasure. Indeed, several of the tracks are by obscure and not so obscure artists that have not seen the light of day since their vinyl release, but are now included to entertain every listener during the holiday season.
Christmas Cocktails has an eclectic mix of songs. The cd includes 18 tracks plus four bonuses. Most of the songs are instrumentals with a little impromptu vocal breaks here and there giving listeners that "lounge" or "let's have a party" feel -- "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reinder," "Cha-Cha All The Way." The ever so popular '60s instrumentalists, The Hollyridge Strings provide their wall of sound-like rendition of "Jingle Bells/Jingle Bell Rock" while Eddie Dunstedter plays a relaxing yet exotic version of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus/Jingle Bells Bossa Nova." Al Ciola and Riz Ortolani play a polynesian sounding instrumental,"Holiday on Skis," which makes one feel like gliding down the slopes. Also, there's a little jazz by the legends, Peggy Lee's "Winter Wonderland," the slow but sensual renderings by Julie London, "I'd Like You For Christmas," and Nancy Wilson's "What are you doing New Year's Eve?" Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians will have listeners cackling and caroling with very the cheerful, "Ring Those Christmas Bells."
Ultra-Lounge: Christmas Cocktails, Part One may not be for the traditional Christmas carol listener. However, for those who have an ear for the unusual or want to hear a little holly jolly tunes, this may be the cd to add to your holiday collection.
Perfect Holiday Music.......2006-11-03
This is a jazzy and fun CD. Perfect for those holiday parties and gift wrapping. You can't help but be in a better mood when listening. I love it and highly recomend it.
Christina
People please..........2005-12-15
I bought because I thought it would have a cool cocktail sound. Wrong! It was obnoxious! I did not even get to the last song. I put it in the shredder so I would never listen to it again by accident.
One of the best Christmas collections out there..........2005-11-30
Those with a taste for an "old-fashioned" Christmas collection, though one with the campy kick that a retro Christmas CD really should have, can do no better than Part 1 of a now-3 disc series of loungey holiday confections from the Capitol music vaults. The jingle-jangle instrumentals from the likes of Billy May and the Jackie Gleason Orchestra are pleasant if overlong, but the vocal selections are unbeatable. Nancy Wilson's buttery crooning on perhaps the most romantic holiday song ("What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?") is delicious, as are Peggy Lee's "Winter Wonderland" and Dean Martin's "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm". These discs are all worth owning, even if there's a too-soft chestnut or two amongst the treasures, and the swingin' 60's artwork is terrific.

Get the Ellington Version.......2005-11-28
If you really want a jazz version of the Nutcracker Suite, get the Duke Ellington version which is available on the "Three Suites" CD. Nothing against the GMO rendition but the Ellington version just swings so much harder. It is a little short but in my opinion it is vastly superior.
More great Christmas big band!.......2005-11-17
Another fantastic Christmas album from the Glen Miller Orchestra. As others have pointed out, it might not be quite up to the same standard that the other In the Christmas Mood CDs have, but then again, they're a bloody high standard! The Nutcracker suite is remarkably (surprisingly?) cool as a big band arrangement (although, again as others have said, longer would have been cooler - it takes up less than half the CD). The rest of the music is great jazz arrangements of Christmas favourites, and in the wonderful style of the previous albums.
All in all, a fantastic album! An excellent buy, particularly as part of the 3 box set (under "In the Christmas Mood")!
Lovely Christmas Album . . . Until They Start Singing........2002-11-22
I first became enamored with the Glenn Miller Orchestra's IN THE CHRISTMAS MOOD albums with the second of the three. I've since collected them all, this being the most recent.
I love the purely instrumental big band tracks on all three of the albums. These guys-original members of the Glenn Miller Orchestra who've gotten together to create these holiday recordings-are OBVIOUSLY the real thing. They interpret traditional holiday songs with an impeccable and immensely fun big band swing.
My bone to pick-and a major one, unfortunately-is with the "Moonlight Seranaders," who sing on (thankfully only) four of the sixteen tracks on this album. Although my experience of authentic big band recordings from the 1940s is slim, I do have a couple of albums, including a two-disc set of original Glenn Miller recordings. On NONE of these albums do the singers sound as disgustingly saccharin as these vocalists.
The sound of the "Moonlight Seranaders" is definitely that of the sappy Lawrence Welk singers of the 1960s and '70s. It's truly terrifying and, sadly, interferes greatly with the otherwise fantastic tracks on this album and the others in the series. Personally, I'd much rather have had a single, talented, emotive vocalist on several of the tracks rather than the sickly-sweet chorus, which completely ruins songs like "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" on this album and "I'll Be Home For Christmas" on one of the other two.
Nevertheless, for the usually ridiculoulsly low price of these albums, you really can't go wrong. The twelve great tracks on IN THE NUTCRACKER MOOD is well worth its cost-with or without the "Moonlight Seranaders." Buy it and re-live those fantastic days of big band music right in your own home this holiday season.
Good, but the first 2 In The Mood holiday albums are better.......2001-11-27
I have to agree with the previous reviewer, while Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite on Side A sounds really good, it would have been great if it were alot longer. It does help that it has the arrangements by the original band members-many of whom have gotten together from all across the country to gather in NYC to record these holiday albums. Side B makes up for everything, though-from the opening cut Jolly Old Saint Nicholas-hearing it makes you think you really are hearing the band plus the Modernaires from back in the 1940s-to the final cut What Are You Doing New Year's Eve. All in all, a bargain at the price listed here.
Not enough Nutcracker.......2001-11-20
This is the final cd in the Glenn Miller Christmas collection and the one that takes the biggest risks. Hearing the Nutcracker in a big band style is quite jarring (especially for a dancer like myslef), but after I got over the initial shock, I was able appreciate the work. My only problem is that music from the Nutcracker only takes up about half the cd! After the (shotened) Nutcracker Suite, we're treated to swing renditions of classic Christmas carols and even Auld Lang Syne. All the music is good, but the cd is called "In The Nutcracker Mood" not In The Nutcracker and Christmas mood. Still, I enjoy this cd and the Nutcracker segments are always a topic of conversation at parties. Just wish ther was more Nutcracker on this Nutcracker cd.

Dude where's my Christmas?.......2005-12-19
Well here it is,right here! I have given more copies of this cd ,to friends, than Columbia has sold. And it's so cheap!!!
Essential list: 1 Jingle bell jazz
2 A Charlie Brown Christmas(Vince Guaraldi Trio)
3 Bottle of Leeuwin Estates "Art Series" Chardonnay
4 Carpenters 'Christmas Portrait"
5 Bottle of "Conundrum" varietal (don't let the screw cap scare you)
6"A Christmas Festival" With Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops
7 Diana Krall "Christmas Songs"
8 Krug "Grand Cuvee" any Krug will do
9 Maybe some Time/Life X-mas stuff
Now how can you be depressed? Merry Christmas Everybody!!!!
No Chico Hamilton, But..........2003-11-20
As some of the other reviewers have stated, there are indeed many unfortunate omissions on this cd that were included on the original vinyl release. Hopefully Sony will see fit in the near future to reissue the recordings as they originally appeared. Having said that, I will make two comments. First of all, Chico Hamilton's "Winter Wonderland" is indeed available on cd. It is on a Sony Music Special Products cd called simply "Jazz Christmas". It is available from amazon, and it's worth the search, even it if it is very short in length, and has tawdry packaging. To my knowledge, this is the only way to get the song on cd. Secondly, this is still a wonderful cd, and one I seem to never tire of hearing. McCoy Tyner's solo piano rendition of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" is beautiful and reflective; Duke Ellington's raucous version of "Jingle Bells" is loads of fun; Carmen McRae's touching version of "The Christmas Song" still conjures up images of light snowfall with the faint glow of candles in the background; Dave Brubeck's midtempo rendition of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" has some wonderfully swinging alto work from the great Paul Desmond; Dexter Gordon is bluesy and swinging on "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". All in all a fine and diverse Christmas cd with plenty of moods and melodies. Always worth hearing and worth owning despite the omissions.
A Christmas Tradition in My House.......2003-01-08
This is a great CD in what's here. Dexter Gordon's solo on have Yourself.... is worth the price, and playable the other 11 months. What's interesting is that there are some outside arrangements (we three kings) along with the straight ahead material.
Worth buying!
Not the Original.......2001-12-23
If you are looking for the Original (Columbia "CS8693") Jingle Bell Jazz (cover has Red Santa Sack full of gifts)issued October 17, 1962, THIS IS NOT IT. The reissue ("PC 36803")of Jingle Bell Jazz (cover has Snow filled N.Y. streets with Taxi Cabs)in September, 1973 is GREAT. This latest "reissue" IS NOT. If you are expecting either of the "Original" issues on CD, you will be greatly offended. There is no Chico Hamilton, no Paul Horn. In 1985, CBS stupidly combined Jingle Bell Jazz with another Columbia recording called God Rest Ye Merry Jazzmen and the sad result is THIS CD. Do youself a favor, secure the Vinyl Original and burn your own CD. "You'll be glad you did." (...) I'd sell you my CD but it was so sorry, I couldn't sell it, I GAVE it away.
Not the original LP program... where's Chico?.......2001-11-26
I take a star off just because those who have owned the original JINGLE BELL JAZZ on CBS (w/ the taxicabs by the snowy street corner shown on the cover) may be disappointed to discover that the CD issue does not include several cuts from the old album. To make room for new cuts by Dexter Gordon, McCoy Tyner, Arthur Blythe, the Heath Brothers, Paquito D'Rivera, and Wynton Marsalis, the label left out Chico Hamilton's wonderful "Winter Wonderland," Paul Horn's "We Three Kings," The Manhattan Jazz All-Stars' "If I Were a Bell," and Marlowe Morris' "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."
Nothing against Dex, McCoy, and the Heath Brothers, but the absence of the Hamilton and Horn cuts in particular are a real loss to the collection. Chico's arrangement of "Winter Wonderland" perfectly captures that hushed, peaceful feeling you get when walking along a snowy hillside on a cold, clear night. It's beautiful, and I can hardly imagine going through the season without hearing it. Why is it missing here?? The track time on this CD is just short of 62 minutes; Columbia should have had room at least to keep Hamilton and Horn. And if it meant trimming "Blue Xmas" or Wynton (he has his own Christmas album, anyway) to make room for "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"--so be it!
Anyway, what's here is still pretty nice. If you got this, JINGLE BELL JAM on Rhino, and Ellington's THREE SUITES (featuring his arrangement of "The Nutcracker Suite"), you'd have an excellent selection of Holiday Jazz. I hope that Columbia will reissue an expanded version of this album, with Chico Hamilton, soon. Meanwhile, look through cassette racks and used LP bins, and the original set might turn up.

Listen to Hipster's Holiday and you'll feel like you just spent Christmas in the coolest nightclub on Earth. "Silent Night" swings in Tim Fuller's Vegas-lounge setting while Lambert, Hendricks & Ross lay on the playful jazz vocals in "Deck Us All with Boston Charlie" and John Greer dictates that "We Wanna See Santa Claus Do the Mambo." And so it goes, 18 totally hip tracks with lots of dancing opportunities--and some comic relief from Pearl Bailey with "Five Pound Box of Money" and Eartha Kitt from 1953, making history with her now classic "Santa Baby." The showstopper, however, in a lineup that exudes cool, from Miles Davis and Lionel Hampton to the Marquees, Lena Horne, and Mabel Scott, comes from Louis Armstrong and his Commanders. Their romping versions of "Cool Yule" and "'Zat You, Santa Claus" are must-hears for any kid. Armstrong again conquers with his All Stars in a lively panoramic view of "Christmas Night in Harlem." If this dynamo set can't jump-start your holiday season, your battery might be dead for good. --Martin Keller
Customer Reviews:
Have a crazy cool Christmas, but don't get knocked out........2005-12-09
This is a collection of jazzy Christmas songs. But don't be scared, it's vocal jazz, which is more accessible than instrumental jazz (some of the tracks actually lean more towards R&B than jazz). There are a lot of cool songs here. But I have to question why Tim Fuller's "Silent Night" from 1989 is here, when the rest of the songs are from the 40s, 50s and 60s. It seems a bit out of place here (it's good, though). I also should mention that the sound quality is not that great on a few tracks, which sound like they were recorded from scratchy old 78s. Despite that, this is a fun collection which should inspire you to have a "cool" Christmas.
Great Stuff.......2001-12-22
What more can I say, this is one excellent compilation. The Louis Armstrong material is exceptional. My favorites are Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby" and the Tim Fuller Experience's 'lounge lizard' rendition of "Silent Night." You gotta buy this cd. Play it year round.
Best Christmas Compilation.......2001-11-30
You don't need to be a jazz or blues fan to adore this album as I do--there are tracks here that everyone will enjoy. It's an album worth owning just for Eartha Kitt's sultry "Santa Baby" and the three tracks featuring Satchmo. And I always laugh when I hear Pearl Bailey's "Five Pound Box of Money." Full of fun (and sometimes funny), these tunes range from swing to cool. If you're planning a party, this album will be a big hit shuffled in with your other favorites.
My Favorite Xmas Album.......2001-11-19
What can I say... I love Christmas albums. This is one of my all time favorites though. So much so that I have one copy for the car and one for the house. This album will get you shaking while you do your holiday baking, not to mention liven up any party. There is not a single bad track! Great job Rhino!
Party Hearty With Louis & Friends.......2001-08-13
This album is definitely a true tinsel tunes classic! Nobody beats RHINO when it comes to releasing all kinds of wonderful Christmas collections. Hipster's Holiday is fun for everyone, young & old. The reason I gave this 4 stars is because of the one holdout song(in my opinion)which grates on my ears-Lambert, Hendricks & Ross singing Deck Us All With Boston Charlie. Oh well, what can I say-different strokes for different folks. So whether you're dipping into the egg-nog or just writing your letter to Santa, putting this cd on your turntable will make you smile & tap your feet. Highly recommended.

For Every Severinson Fan.......2006-11-12
The Tonight Show Band does a great job with all these numbers. All the numbers are arranged by Tommy Newsome or John Bainbridge. If you buy this CD for only the great arrangement of "Jingle Bells", you won't be sorry. You'll recognize all the selections. They're different slightly but performed tastefully. Snooky Young has some nice moments, too. There are vocals by the LA Children's Chorus and instrumental flavorings by the Pacific Brass and Desert Bells International. A fine addition to any Christmas CD collection.
Must buy!!!.......2004-10-19
Anyone who is a fan either of Doc, big band, brass or Christmas music must own this CD!!! I Have looked for years for a Christmas CD to top this one with no luck. The Tonight show band was one of the most powerfull big bands of all time!! This CD clearly confirms that, it can be a beutiful ballad one moment and turn into a powerhouse the next. Words can not express how awesome the CD is. A must have for any Christmas collection.
The Best!.......2003-11-30
Hands down the best CD in my extensive collection of Christmas music. There are very few "must own" CDs, but this is one of them!
Fills You With Christmas Spirit.......2002-12-24
Wonderful Christmas CD. Planning to buy my second copy!
Simply THE BEST Christmas Album Ever.......2000-12-07
We bought this in 1999 after our local radio station 104 KRBE in Houston started playing it on their morning show. We are ADDICTED, and now our son has started playing the trumpet in his school band. Doc and the gang BRING TO LIFE all the wonderful Christmas songs. Every household should have a copy of this. Our Christmas wouldn't be complete without it.

Burned again.......2005-11-25
I swore I would never buy a LaserLight anything again. They have to be the worst of repackagers. Horrible mastering, ugly artwork, no liner notes of any sort and absolutely no thought to the material. Alas, I didn't check the label before I clicked. Only one of the CDs is a 1940s compilation. A Sinatra/Crosby compilation and a Glenn Miller Christmas collection are discs two and three. Half of the Sinatra/Crosby disc is from an old broadcast (actually I think it is from their Christmas special - if so. it isn't even 40's). The quality is really, really bad. The Glenn Miller disc is actually a radio program and unless there is a secret Christmas message in Little Bug Jug, the Christmas label is a bit deceptive.
Check out the offerings from ASV - their discs are always high quality.
Love it, love it, love it!!.......2000-12-12
This is the greatest Christmas music..I look forward to listening to it every year! It recalls the WWII era in the most touching way - sentimental favorites like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and I'll Be Home for Christmas are mixed with some more whimsical tunes like It Happened in Sun Valley (my personal favorite)... It swings and warms and evokes great emotion...I can't say enough...
It is something that I think everyone should have in their collection at Christmastime!!

holiday music that couldn't be better!.......2007-05-25
For any that love holiday music, and especially for those that like Orchestra music such as the great Glenn Miller, this is the CD for you. All the great holiday tunes with the special and wornderful touch of swing music by the greatest orchestra. Be sure to include in your purchase...or at least consider them for next time...In the Christmas Mood 2 and In the Nutcracker mood; they are just as wonderful.
Great buy for the money.......2005-12-05
The "Chicago Swing Fan" who complained below may do well to remember that Glenn Miller's never really was a swing band. Miller was foremost a businessman, and his orchestra played commercial dance music. Good dance music? Good big band music? Yes, I think so, but in terms of swing, he didn't hold a candle to Benny Goodman in his prime. Having said that, don't expect hot, jazzy swing from this CD. If you like the old Miller records, you'll love this CD. It was recorded sometime around 1990 by the current band going under the Miller name, and all in all, represents a tasty selection of holiday goodies in authentic Miller style. Occasionally, some of the arrangements sound bit more "modern" than anything Miller would have played in his lifetime, but the general feeling is there. The disc is well-recorded and has great sound. It's quite pleasant and makes a great accompaniment for decorating the tree, Christmas parties, driving around town, sipping egg nog--just about anything! When my original copy of this broke several years ago (yes, it shattered... don't ask how!) I quickly ordered another copy. This CD has become one of my favorite holiday recordings. And for the price, you can't go wrong. Recommended.
Puts me in the Christmas mood.......2001-11-20
I'm not a swing or Glen Miller afficionodo, but I really enjoy this cd. The songs have on old time feel, but one that works for me because of it's swing/big band roots. I was suprised to find a few tracks with vocals, but they don't detract fornm the overall feel of the cd and actually provide a nice mix to the set. The final song, "In The Christmas Mood" is an original which nicely sums up the entire project. I use this and it's sister albums (In The Christmas Mood II and The Glen Miller Nuctcracker) as background music at partes and it never fails to get people festive and dancing around the room. My only complaint would be that running at 40:41, it seems the party ends too soon. But I guess that's more of a compliment than a complaint isn't it?
Glenn Miller Orchestra Earns Their Wings.......2001-08-07
This CD album became volume 1 of a 3-volume box set. It was recorded by the "Glenn Miller Orchestra" which inherited the authentic "Glenn Miller" style of arrangement, orchestration, dynamics and vocal style. The Orchestra obviously had a lot of fun doing it using "standard" Christmas melodies. (They reveal in the signature "In the Christmas Mood" number that they still have a hankering for the Andrews sisters.)
Glenn Miller himself, who had been promoted to a major in the Army, died in a plane accident during World War II on the way to entertaining the troops in Europe but not before he imprinted his own style on his own band during the ongoing "Big Band" era.
"In the Christmas Mood", inspired by the GM band's most well-known and well-known work, "In the Mood", but drawing on the entire GM repertoire is therefore part tribute, part nostagia and pure entertainment. You will enjoy this CD and the other two in the box set - share it with your kids, your friends, your associates during Christmas parties and all during the season.
I have explored the GM websites and read the history. My father played GM and Tommy Dorsey when I was but a toddler.
After you buy "In the Christmas Mood, vol. 1" then go to the other two (warning: go for the box set now - you will want it later after you try this one).
Lame Pseudo "Swing".......2000-12-15
Like the rest of these limp "Glenn Miller" albums recorded 40 years after he died this is a lame take on "swing" music. It's well recorded but nothing like anything he did when he was alive. Call it "Glenn Miller lite", or swing without syncopation. Similar to a Lawrence Welk approach to "swing music" albeit more lively. Either way, a misrepresentation of swing music. Pretty dreadful if you are a true swing fan, but lots of folks seem to enjoy this watered down pablum.

LOVE ULTRA LOUNGE - have most all of them!.......2007-05-12
Nothing can be finer that Ultra Lounge - never a bad thing to say.
Some Cool, Some "Interesting" music.......2007-01-24
"Baby it's cold outside" by Dean Martin is very cool and not one you hear on the radio every year. A couple of the other ones though are way out there. One should be titled "Christmas at the roller rink" because it is classic organ music. Another is even more odd with Chrismas carols set to the old standard "Tequela" Bottom line is don't expect the usual Christmas fare and you may enjoy this CD.

This CD features Christmas music from the '50s and '60s that would have been considered to be "adult pop" at the time. That is to say, pop music for adults, instead of teenagers. There are a lot of great songs here, along with a few not so great songs. But it's all a lot of fun, and if you enjoy adult pop of the '50s and '60s, you should enjoy it.
Fabulous Fun Christmas Songs.......2005-12-01
I LOVE this CD. June Christy, Julie London, Peggy Lee, Nancy Wilson, Lena Horne --- all doing great songs.

Time for a laugh.......2007-01-24
This cd is very well put together. Many years ago Spike Jones was the rage of the music industry. He actually could play quite well and he usually started his songs out that way however..part way through all heck would break loose. He did crazy things with the music but it was very funny,If you want to get happy play this cd.
Very pleased!.......2007-01-22
Not only does this cd have lots of fun songs on it, it also has some really beautiful ones too. We all really liked it- from grandparents to our toddler. I have and will continue to recommend it and plan on buying one next year for my parents.
the best in holiday fun.......2007-01-10
Right out of your childhood. This album has it all. Great funny wild songs for the kids and kid at heart and wonderful music to sing along too.
My Mom use to play this album when I was a kid, listening to it now brings back all the memories of my youth at christmas. Now I share this with my own kids (who sing these tunes even when its not christmas).
You will NOT be disappointed with this cd and will love EVERY song. Put it in and sing outloud while driving around the neighborhood looking at christmas displays. Make it a family tradition!
GREAT CHRISTMAS NOVELTY SONGS & LOVELY STANDARDS!.......2006-12-01
I bought this cd mainly for the songs "All I Want For Christmas is my Two Front Teeth," and "I'm the Angel in the Christmas Play," which are done in a wonderfully funny "mean little kid" voice. I was pleasantly surprised by two more songs "My Birthday Comes on Christmas" and "If I Was Santa's Son," which are also done in the "mean little kid" voice and are very funny, especially "My Birthday Comes on Christmas" (one verse he sings, "Ohhh, I get so mad!!" in a tantrum-like scream!) These songs are wonderfully funny and add to the charm of the holidays. While listening to the cd I was surprised by the great holiday arrangements of the other songs. The singers do a great job and the songs are very Christmassy and cheerful! Some of the songs are also done by a childrens group and are pleasant enough, however, I was disappointed that the song, "I'm Getting Nothing For Chrismas" was done by the kids instead of the "mean little kid's" voice. I found out later that the version of this song that I heard on the radio (in the "mean little kid's" voice) was done by Stan Freberg and is available on the "Dr. Demento's Greatest Christmas Novelty CD," along with another classic "I Yust Go Nuts At Christmas." If you like Christmas songs that put you in the Christmas spirit, while tickling the funny bone at the same time, then this cd is for you!
