Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars very creative.......2004-06-22

Afrob is a very good hip hop artist. As an american I think the beats make the hip hop scene what it is in europe. However, even though the music kinda sounds the same, most hip hoppers in europe are only "studio gangstas" How many of them have actually lived the life they rap about, just like in the US: NOT MANY!
Keep hip hop in its purest form.

4 out of 5 stars Good, Just Lacking Greatness.......2001-02-04

German rap is probably the most underrated genre of music in the world right now. When you take into account how hard the language is to speak, let alone rhyme, you beging to get a much better opinion of this style.

Most German rap is incredibly creative - picture the underground US scene only 5 or 6 times more oddball and you're getting there. The sly humour often found in better rap is also a lot more evident in German rap than in in English/American.

That said, Afrob is definitely not the best German rapper around. I can conclude from reading the other reviews of this album that the reviewers who consider Afrob to be the savior of hip-hop haven't been exposed to his labelmates Die Fantastischen Vier. The best way to describe him would be to compare his style to most of the hardcore rap found in the USA at this point in time - sometimes showing flashes of brilliance but more often content to be middle-of-the-pack.

When this style is transplanted into Germany, it does become a much better listen but I sense that it was really geared towards American listeners (hence the many verses in English and also the sound-alike German words). A lot of the humor found in International Rap is missing here but Afrob does have the potential to become a virtuoso on the mike.

Another American feature of the album is the vast number of guest performers found here. Some of the performances are inspired collaborations such as Ferris MC ("Reimemonster"); Spezializtz ("Immer Noch Kaffer En Masse") and Max from Freundeskreis ("Lieb Den Scheiss" and what I'm certain is an uncredited performance on "Ambaciata"). The others aren't worth the trouble (Johan would make a good English RnB singer but his performance on this album only gets in the way of Afrob).

Most of the tracks are solid, unspectacular performances. "Reimemonster", "Immer Noch Kaffer" and the title track are the best of the bunch. It appears that every time Afrob starts to get somewhere with his flow, it either gets interrupted by a guest or a chorus.

If you're after a good, solid album in either German or English - this is the way to go. If you prefer literate foreign rap, look at some of the guests here or Die Fantastischen Vier.

Overall, 4 stars for good technique and potential. Lack of the fifth star reflects the album's lack of desire to go just a little bit better.

5 out of 5 stars Nicht gut........2000-10-06

So buy it!!!

5 out of 5 stars Check this out!.......2000-05-02

I think it's great that we've got an German artist now who comes close to what American HipHop-Freaks do. In a matter of fact, I think that this Album is even better than some American HipHop-albums. You can listen to this CD when you want to party, as well as to chill out. Afrob definitely rocks! And nobody can deny! Check it out, before you smile on German HipHop!

5 out of 5 stars forget us hiphop.......2000-03-21
