Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nourith's KOL YISHAMA .......2004-10-21

I first heard this album while I was meandering through an old book store which also sold imported CDs. It was instantly relaxing and thought-provoking, yet somehow mystic and sensual; it's one of those albums where you're simply compelled to ask who's singing it. When I approached the store-owner he said that he couldn't stop playing the album himself and was seriously considering buying it to take home. He didn't get the opportunity! I bought his only copy on the spot and it's been playing almost continuously in my car ever since.

If I was forced to name another artist as a comparison to Nourith I'd probably have to say "Clannad with a middle Eastern flavour", but it's unfair to put her music in a category - the album is quite unique. It's a tapestry of rich sounds and finely-played instruments, interwoven with Nourith's angelic voice. This particular album has a mix of French and Jewish influences though, again, don't be tempted to pigeon-hole it by imagining mainstream French or Israeli music.

The album is certainly not a party-starter, nor a foot-tapper. But if you want music that will transport you into another world, KOL YISHAMA is probably your ticket. To me the song "Ela" would have justified the album price by itself.
