Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
Poised, sensitive, humble and exceptionally talented - i.e. Rahul Sharma, the younger son of Santoor maestro Padma Vibhushan Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma. At the age of twelve Rahul started learning the santoor along with training in vocal music and percussion (Tabla) from his father.

Today, Rahul is amongst most sort after young musicians not just in India but accross the globe. His clear understanding of the various aspects of Indian Classical Music is deep - and this evident in his approach towards the delicate unfolding of a raga through alaap and then weaving through the intricate rhythmic time cycles.

Rahul has assisted his father with music compositions for such block buster Hindi movies as "Chandni", "Lamhe" and "Daar". In 2002, Rahul Debuted as the music director for "Mujhse Dosti Karoge", directing legends such as Lata Mangeskar. In addition, Rahul has composed music with Richard Clayderman, a Pianist of great stature on a collaborative called "The Confluence".

As a maestro in the making, Rahul is the rightful torch bearer responsible for taking this once-considereds folk instruments of the mountains called the santoor to unparallel heights.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A collector's treasure!.......2003-12-12

Rahul Sharma's latest album In Hope for Peace by Rhyme Records is one of the best Indian Classical Music recordings I have ever heard. Each and every little sound note can be heard distinctly in the Alaap. How wonderfully played, recorded and mixed to give us the intricate texture of Indian Classical Music. It lingers in the ears for long, long time.

As I played the CD, I could almost see the valleys of Kashmir and I could hear the sound of water falls. These two CDs are collector's treasures and great meditation companions. Rahul was definitely at his best and these two recordings are certainly great achievement for Rhyme Records. And, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee's tabla is just awesome!

Additionally, the skillfully designed multimedia part has some excerpts from Rahul Sharma's interview with Rhyme Records, where Rahul talks about his legendary father Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Rahul's own musical world.

Altogether it's a musical treat that no music lover should miss!

5 out of 5 stars Its Soooooo healing... and noble cause.......2003-12-11

I got this album as a gift from my friend. I could not believe my ears and was mesmerized with this superb performance. The kind of recording gives you feeling as if you are listening to it live. Now I do not regret my presence at New York during this show as I can create the same atmosphere many times whenever I listen to it. It's not on the quality of music rather both the performers have done fantastic job. The video on the enhanced CD section on the other disc gives a chance to know the artist better. If it was santoor people only know Shiv-ji. But now his son Rahul is creating waves. I wish him all the best. Whenever I need to get fresh I listen to these set of CDs it is really healing. My music collection would have never been complete without this.

5 out of 5 stars Masterful performance - stellar recording !.......2003-12-03

What a treat! As an ardent fan of the Santoor (hammered dulcimer) and a huge fan of Shiv Kumar Sharma - the pioneer behind this instrument, we get a royal treat from his talented son, Rahul Sharma. This performance was recorded live in New York City as homage to the lives lost on Sept 11. The complete, unedited performance with a first class Tabla player is absolutely mesmerizing and the quality of the recording is simply superb! I have NEVER heard the tone of this delicate instrument captured so faithfully. Additionally, this is the first and only Enhanced CD release on Rahul Sharma that includes live concert footage and an in-depth look into his ancestry & a look into this 103 stringed instrument. This release is truly money very well spent and a must in any music collection. Do not miss out on this recording! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did time and time again. Happy Listening everyone!
