4 out of 5 stars Not just for Otaku.......2007-07-26

Even though my interest in this song came from the anime series "Serial experiments: Lain", I find BoA to be a group whose sound is remeniscient of the Cranberries or the Corrs, and could easily be added to a playlist with them and Annie Lennox or Natalie Merchant

4 out of 5 stars Great songs, but steep price for just two tracks. .......2006-06-23

For those of you who have seen Serial Experiment: Lain, this CD contains the song from the opening credits to the series (Duvet). It's a fabulous song done by Engish music group Boa (not to be confused with Korean J-Pop artist BoA). Probably one of the best sounding contemporary rock songs I can think of. There is another song on this CD called Deeply, also from Boa. This song has more of a hard edge to it with Jasmine (the lead singer) putting a little more passion into her voice. Of the two songs Duvet is still my favorite, but Deeply is definitely a well done song.

Now for the bad news. For a full-priced CD all you get are two songs. No remixes. No video files. Just two songs. For most other bands that would be enough to say forget about it. However these songs were included on only two albums: Twilight (released domestically) and Race of a Thousand Camels (released in Japan). These albums are no longer distributed and are very hard to find, which makes Duvet also hard to find.

So in the end you have to ask yourself how bad do you want that one song from Lain, plus another good song from the band? Personally I wouldn't pay the full list price for just the two songs. Then again I'm one of the lucky ones that has a copy of Twilight. Personally I would pass this one up and look for another Lain soundtrack that has this song in it. The Lain Cyberia Mix import version has the TV cut of the song as well as a remix and several other dancey tracks (be forewarned, the domestic release doesn't have Duvet).

4 out of 5 stars IT'S A SINGLE !!!!.......2005-11-30

Please read the item description closely, and you will see this is a CD SINGLE! It's a mini-disk containing only two songs. "Duvet" is beautiful of course, and the other song ("Deeply", I think) is pretty catchy too. However, spending $15 for two songs is beyond what most people can justify.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good........2005-01-27

I actually like this quite a bit better than the original sound track for the series.

While I may be biased (being a fanatic fan of the series) this is one of my favorite CD's out of all that I own.

Of course, it's not reccomended if you don't like techno. Some of the songs are not for the faint of heart (I am thinking particularly of SPEED and Professed Intention and Real Intention) but other than that it's just what you'd expect from a Lain ST - undeniably trippy, but in a very good way. I might even go so far as to say that this CD does a better job of capturing the essence of the series than does the original sound track. This is something that, as the cover suggests, you might find Lain herself mixing up, were she so inclined.

The Import version is definitely reccomended over the non, because the Duvet remix is divine. While both the full length Duvet AND the remix are available for free, it is just more convenient to have them on the CD.

I must say though that you can get the import version for alot cheaper than $41.99, if you look.

5 out of 5 stars Song of an Angel.......2004-11-10

This is the best song in the entire show. When I first heard it I almost couldn't stop playing it over and over until someone dragged me away. The song is simply enrapturing and gives you a great feeling inside. The beats used are amazing especially when it hits around the middle; I'm sure fans of the show know what I'm talking about. Definitely a track worth owning, but I'm willing to admit that it's still a bit pricey.

    Product Description

In keeping with the tradition of sitar and sarod duets by Ali Akbar Khan and Ravi Shankar, two artistes of the new generation, Partho Sarathy and Shubhendra Rao, who also studied under the two maestros at the same time, come together in this album to create magic through their music. The album begins with raga Patdeep, a late afternoon raga conveying a mood of tenderness, serenity and dignity. This is followed by a rendition of raga Charukesi, a raga from the south Indian style of music adopted and popularised in the north by sitar legend Ravi Shankar

      Album Description

LAFCADIO is a band growing out of metal's deep-rooted traditions, but they're always somewhere on the outer edge of ritual and convention. The Indianapolis based group (formerly known as Gogglesphere) add new options to the prog/ math sound. Their wide array of influences (from King Crimson to Don Caballero; Melvins to the Deftones) fuse and recombine into a new-synthesis---like some kind of psycho-symphonic experimental cockrock-core.

With their debut album, Sham Duvet, the group tells a story of the troublesome dichotomy between religious epiphany and schizophrenic dementia. The epic protagonist, 'Sham Duvet', is a neurotic/ prophetic figure with a messiah complex. Is Sham really a psychopath? Are his messianic ambitions ultimately hallucinations? Of course they are. This isn't the ethereal lute-song of Handel's Messiah symphony. This is fucking metal.

LAFCADIO delivers their songs with a brutal elegance, but they don't shy away from the manic absurdity---the clownish aspect of doom. Sham Duvet is speckled with the humorous and the absurd; giving this prog-math-metal group a sense of authenticity - a trait highly lacking within the all to often cookie-cutter world of heavy music.
