Not the best........2005-03-02
I bought this CD with high hopes. I absolutely loved the first one, the one recorded live. This one was a disappointment though. The guys songs are good and their voices are in good form but it was missing something...feeling, I guess. The live concert version can make me cry and laugh it's so sung with feeling, but this is just singing. I just felt it lacked feeling. I guess that's why I was disappointed with it.
What a magnificent Heritage.......2005-01-22
I highly recommend this album to all fans of Irish music. This is the last album with Ronan as a memember and it is one of their best. Ronan's "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen" is wonderful, so too is Finbarr's "South of the Border". The theme from the Titanic "My Heart Will Go On" is the best version since Celine Dione's. My favorite track is Anthony's "The West's Awake" . One point to note is that this group is one of the few out there who can perform live with an equally good recorded sound. Having listened to them at Meadowbrook NH the night of Ronan's farewell I can assure you that live or recorded they have a fantastic sound. I highly recommend this CD to all fans of Irish music.

A Review .......2004-10-30
I have never really been a fan of Traditional Irish Music and had never even HEARD of the Irish Tenors....That is until a friend of mine introduced me to the recording of "Live In Belfast" Instantly, I was hooked. I have become addicted to a lot of these songs. Especially the goofier ones they sing. like "Phil the Fluther" and "Courtin in the Kitchen" When Heritage was released I was estatic....As I had loved all the songs they had released before. Even though they recycled some of their songs. I loved the way they re recorded "Red Is The Rose" with Finbar in place of John and also "Fields Of Athenry" I Found this version to be better than the other one. I found it really bizare that they would sing "My Heart Will Go On" as that is not an Irish Song...Ireland was where the Titanic sank. but still. I really enjoyed listening to it. "South of the Boarder" and "Golden Jubilee" along with "Little Brigid Flynn" were quite entertainingly cute. I really enjoyed Anthony's "The West's Awake" and "The Parting Glass" and "The Harp That Once Through Tara's Halls" I would, too also love to see Anthony put out a solo album.
Heritage, The Irish Tenors.......2004-09-30
This is another delightful effort by Anthony, Finbar and Ronan.
My favorite songs were "Off to Philadephia" (Anthony) and "My Heart Will Go On" (Finbar). I didn't even mind the repetition of some songs heard on past CDs - but wondered about it, until I learned of the departure of Ronan Tynan. I am curious to see the kind of arrangements they have included on their new CD, due to come out later this year, which they made upon the return of John McDermott. John is a Canadian of Celtic descent, whose voice, though pleasant in a folksy way, does not seem to blend as well with Anthony and Finbar as did Ronan's trained vocals. I would be very pleased to see Anthony make a solo CD, including such ballads as (my all-time favorite) Bantry Bay and some of the wonderfully playful Irish ditties he sometimes performs at his solo concerts.
Tattered Tenors.......2004-08-20
When the Irish Tenors burst upon the public scene not too many years ago, they were heralded as a refreshing change in the sea of musical mediocrity. The original trio of McDermott, Kearns and Tynan thrilled us with their exuberance and vocal virtuosity and frankly, I miss that. (Please note: since I originally wrote this review the threesome has changed to McDermott, Kearns and Wright with Tynan having left the group).
As one of their latest efforts, "Heritage" is an "okay" album, but it certainly lacks the freshness and fun of the Irish Tenors' earlier efforts. Of course, there are notable exceptions such as Kearns' roguish "Off to Philadelphia", the sprightly "Golden Jubilee" and the beautiful "The West's Awake" solo by Kearns. Wright's "Little Brigid Flynn" is downright fun but his "South of the Border" is oddly out of place. With too many recycled songs and a little too little Anthony Kearns, I personally found "Heritage" to be the weakest effort in the generally stellar Irish Tenors' discography.

FANTASTIC MUSIC! PERCY FAITH'S GIFT TO THE WORLD!.......2000-08-25
This incredible rendition of the Music of Mexico has been my very favorite album ever! I fell in love with this music from the very first moment that I heard it! I have worn out three vinyl copies of this album since it came out in 1957 and have waited until just this year for it to come out in the digital cd format. This is one of those incredible albums in which each and every number on both sides is excellently done! In my opinion, this album depicts "The Music of Mexico" at its best...it just doesn't get any better than this!! Percy Faith received an award from the Government of Mexico for this great work of art! Buying this album one can't possibly go wrong! It is simply a blue-chipper album that is in a league of its own! VIVA! ENJOY!

Crossroads is a meeting across the southern border with Robert Tree Cody, a Native flute player of the Dakota and Maricopa tribes, and Xavier Quijas Yxayotl, born in Guadalajara and reputedly of the Huichol tribe of Mexico's indigenous people. He specializes in pre-Colombian instruments, including Aztec and Mayan flutes. Their cultures and instruments are close relatives and the two find a common ground in slow and midtempo acoustic trance grooves ornamented by an array of little percussion instruments, including rattles, rainsticks, rasps, and drums. These form the atmospheres for their simple flute melodies and chants. Extreme stereo panning amplifies rhythmic counterpoints over the native "one beat," especially in the cross rhythms of "Procession of the Jaguar King." --John Diliberto

A Master among recordings - Superb!.......2006-06-25
Robert Tree Cody is a master among flutists. In this recording he has brought together for the first time the native music of the Great Plains and Mexico. Cossroads is a unique recording blending the music of the various flutes from Mayan, Native American and Aztec cultures. The unique sounds that are created are so very different that it totally captures your attention You cannot ignore it, use it as backgroud music or a relaxation tool as it commands you to sit and listen to the end. Beatuifully done!

Customer Reviews:
Not Roger's Best.......2005-09-03
I like Roger Creager and consider myself a fan, however, I do not think this is his best album. He still has that "Roger" sound on this album, but to me it just seemed like something was missing. I would look to get some of his previous albums before getting this one.
This CD kicks.......2004-02-08
After reading many reviews about this awesome CD. I decided to buy it and not a penny was wasted on it. From Track one to track twelve it is great. In fact this is the first time in the past couple of years that I can say I love the whole CD. It is a shame that mainstream Country radio doesn't play this great Texas artist. If you like different styles of country music this CD is for you.
Disappointed.......2003-10-01
I have to say that I am severly disappointed in this CD. I was expecting a lot more out Creager, especially considering the other two records. Gone are the powerful fiddle solos and catchy tunes, and they are replaced with what sounds like elevator music. If I wanted to buy elevator music, I would buy Kenny G not Roger Creager!! Although despite the mostly bad review, there are a few good tracks. There is a track which can best be described as cajun meets country music, that sounds really good, and there is also a quite funny track about a girl from Shreveport to New Orleans.
Texas music at its finest.......2003-09-11
Roger Creager is an awesome song writer and even better performer. Go to one of his shows and I guarantee you will be fan for life.
Where as some Texas Country singers have gone more to the heartland rock sound, Roger is staying true to his roots. Solid Texas Music with spanish and cajun twists and most important, songs you can sing to (and a few you can drink to!)
The CD is a must have for any Texas Music collection. And if you have never seen him live, go now! It is truly a life changing experience (or at least the music you listen to in your truck changing experience). And now I'm starting my official countdown to the release of his Live Album.

Exploring the connections between early music and what we know as folksong, Joel Cohen and his very adventurous and competent band of musicians not only show us where many familiar tunes come from, they also give us fresh and illuminating renditions of songs from the 10th century to the middle of the 20th century. Besides the recording's obvious educational value, its primary purpose, according to Cohen, is "to give pleasure." That it does, often in amusing ways, as when a song with religious origins is transformed into a ribald descendant. It's also fun to see how widespread some songs are, with different versions common to many countries. Cohen demonstrates how songs that came from Renaissance forms were preserved by common folk long after the "elite" classes abandoned them. The songs are enhanced by excellent instrumental playing and well-conceived arrangements. --David Vernier
Customer Reviews:
Charming, simple & striking. Full of delightful surprises!.......2002-11-29
Many early music groups these days explain cross-cultural musical influences in their program notes, and proceed to play their selections accordingly. Joel Cohen and the Boston Camerata take it the logical step further by actually performing the "root" pieces side by side with the later music that reflects their particular influence. The result is inspired, thought-provoking groupings of related tunes and texts that span not only centuries but continents. The Boston Camerata is primarily a vocal ensemble, with a sound that is spare, pure and direct. Some of their renditions are performed a cappella, while others are accompanied by light, period instrumentation. If you've ever heard this group live in concert, you may recall the surreal effect of sitting in a theater that is pin-drop quiet, waiting for one or two musicians at a time to step forward and break the silence with a clarity and presence that holds the entire audience spellbound from first note to last. The effect of listening to this recording is much the same. My favorites on this release are the groupings of different versions of the same ballad--"Three Ravens", "Gypsy Davy", and "Barbara Allen", for example. The pairing of the Appalacian song "Betty Anne" with its exact harmonic match--a 16th century ricercada for viols by Diego Ortiz--is also quite striking, and I also enjoyed the "shape-note" and "Fa-sol-la" singing-school selections representative of early American music. In the insert, director Joel Cohen explains: "This unorthodox recording, an intentionally provocative mix of early art song and modern folksong, is meant first of all to give pleasure - but it is also a meditation on history, on archetypes, and on the transmission of human culture." The Boston Camerata succeeds admirably here on both counts!
Tour de Force of American Musical Roots!.......2001-01-05
Prepare to go on an amazing, haunting musical tour when you put this disc on your player. Joel Cohen (bless him) has once again assembled a group of musicians and singers who are up to the task of taking themselves, and you the listener, back through the mists of musical time. This disc contains songs that span hundreds of years, many of which actually originate in other lands. Yet, these songs would find their way into the early diverse fabric of colonial America, and go on to inspire much of emerging folk music in this country. Some of these songs are secular, but others have a distinctly religious flavor (as in the first piece on Judgment Day and the "stars falling"). Others are merry, dance-like tunes, and remind one of what might have been performed in medieval courts in Europe. Some are sung in english, others in different languages. The range of musical style and vocal interpretation is incredible. This wonderful diversity reminds the listener that America always had diverse roots, and even in colonial times, we were a nation that drew its strength and inspiration from many cultural sources. I like to listen to this disc during the bleak nights of winter, but it is wonderful music for any occasion. If you really are intrigued by the historical development of American music -- or any music -- then this disc is a "must" for your collection. Also recommended: "The World Turned Upside Down" (Barry Philips), "A Land of Pure Delight" (His Majestie's Clerkes), and "Simple Gifts: Shaker Cbants and Spirituals" (Joel Cohen and Boston Camerata).
Astonishing.......2000-03-25
The album is astonishing. It is rare to find a continuous line of musical thought from the turn of the previous millenium to its end. This album demonstrates the evolution of music over about a thousand year period and includes some very early versions of what we would call modern songs.
It is worth the price of the CD several times over and is one of my favorites in my CD collection.

Even their harshest critics can't accuse Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops of not trying to have fun. On The Latin Album, they tackle a repertoire that includes big-band favorites and compositions from Piazzolla, Perez Prado, and Aaron Copland (in the form of El Salon México). These are mostly dance tunes, filled with crashing percussion, Latin rhythms, and familiar melodies. To their credit, the Boston Pops get this fiesta right about half the time--opening with Alberto Ginastera's "Malambo," they set a furious, rollicking mood that's heavy on the percussion. They shine on Jacob Gade's "Jalousie" (an early hit for Lockhart predecessor Arthur Fiedler) and on the more atmospheric "Mi Cambio" by César Villalobos. Unfortunately, their arrangement of Piazzolla's "Oblivion" is about as subtle as the music found in soap operas (and about as exciting) and "Perfidia" is a disappointment, "smooth" but hardly sultry. Still, the Pops know how to play their brassy, rhythmic showpieces, and the recorded sound here is excellent. --Jason Verlinde
Customer Reviews:
Good background music, but a little tame for latin.......2002-08-19
I expected a little more action. I tend to think of mariachi and I got village pan pipes.
Don't Bother!.......2002-04-15
I bought this CD at a stoop sale for one dollar, and then sold it at a stoop sale for a dollar or two. I am very glad that I did not pay full price (or even half price) for it. I did not think it was a bad CD, but a bland CD. Every track on it I have heard performed better elsewhere. They are like Muzak versions of great Latin works.
A mood-lifter!.......2001-03-29
Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops, and the guest artists have a hit in this one! I can almost forget the snow outside when I listen to it. I loved "Jalousie!" And Mariachi Cobre stands out on "Granada" and "Son de la Negra." Five star tracks, both of them, with Steve Carrillo's great vocal work on "Granada" and the spirited interchange between the Pops and Mariachi Cobre's brass sections in "Son de la Negra." Purists may object to the combination of Latin music and an orchestra, but I think it's a treat!
A great CD from the Pops.......2001-02-07
The Boston Pops due a great job on this CD. I really like Batuque. If you are looking for a great CD that will really make you dance this is the one.
I agree with the music fan from Mexico.......2001-01-03

Customer Reviews:
A Phenomenal Journey from Rio Bravo to Rio de la Plata.......2004-01-31
Yolanda and Enrique offer us this true Latin American musical embrace. Although I knew of Enrique Coria's masterful guitar style, this lyrical duo with Yolanda Aranda really exceeded everything I expected. The trained voice of Yolanda takes us through zambas and huapangos with passion and subtleties. My favorite tunes are La Malagüeña (where Yolanda shows the real pitch of her voice) and La Canción Mixteca. Chava Flores' Mi México de Ayer is also really moving. In La Pucha con el Hombre (a great escondido in the tradition of Los Carabajal), Yolanda may not compete with my paisana Mercedes Sosa, yet her voice really shines. In summary, this is one of the best Latin American musical partnerships I heard in the last years: an homage to the everlasting Latin American musical tradition.
Phenomenal.......2003-10-23
Reminds me of the Getz/Gilberto recordings. Tremendous feeling. Buy this now.
