This is the best CD Mawaca did since its beggining! They have lots of strong and vibrating Brazilian rhythms and the mixture they did with other tunes are fantastic!

This is the first soundtrack based on the Portuguese epic 'Os Lusiadas' written by Luis de Camoes. Until this time, no Portuguese composers tried to put music on those fantastic poems about the adventure forward to India that passed trough different African countries. Mawaca did it in a very good production with orchestra and differents special participations.

Mawaca doesn't respect frontiers.......2001-12-27

Sensitive research with a transculturalistic musicality. These are the best words to describe Sao Paulo's group in their first CD released in 1998. Mawaca does not respect any frontiers. The Mawaca's CD has a multimedia track that is marvellous. I guess that it is the first World Music multimedia produced in Brazil with such quality.

Mawaca makes the real world music in Brazil.......2001-12-27

The Brazilian Popular Music, the MPB genre, is what is known in America as the world music from Brazil, but this is a wrong vision. The 'real World Music made in Brazil'is what Mawaca does, principally in the second CD 'astrolabio.tucupira.com.brasil' that blends all the influences from many different places like African, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Arabian, Italian and many others. Mawaca is able to blend all those stuff in different and creative arrangements without necessarily being pop. Listen to 'astrolabio.tucupira.com.brasil'is the same of following the sun, then, you can understand better the itinerary made by the Portuguese people trying to find Indian spices. This is what Mawaca 'astrolabio.tucupira.com.brasil' CD offers to you in one hour of pure delight. It's not an easy CD to listen without paying attention, because there's a serious research inside each song, most of them ancestral melodies. But if you are in need of a 'only one style CD', forget about Mawaca music, because 'astrolabio' presents an interesting variety of styles and rhythms mixed in an unusual way, exploring all the sonorities of the vocal group and the instrumental set up (with bassoon, accordiom, violin, sax,cello, flute, vibraphone, marimba,caxixis, pandeiroes, djembes and tablas).
