Beautiful.......2007-01-05

I like to listen to music that moves me. This CD definitely does that. I have very ecclectic tastes. Some of my favorites are Nina Simone, Madeleine Peyroux, Souad Massi, Tinariwen, Orishas, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Talib Kweli. The list goes on. The point is, this CD is latin rap, but it's so good, I think you would like it even if you don't listen to rap. There is a kind of beautiful desperation to the songs on this CD, it's a kind of music that makes you want to cry (in a good way). I love songs like "Abrazame Muy Fuerte" and "Respira" for their depth and emotion, and "Cuando Se Arma" and "Dolor, Lucha, y Triunfo" for their power.

The song "Abrazame muy fuerte" is one of the most touching hip hop songs I've ever heard. Everytime I hear it, I want to cry. They covered the Juan Gabriel song for the hook and it sounds beautiful! The song "Infiel" also samples one of Alejandro Fernandez's songs and it sounds really good. I would definetly buy this CD along with the Pecador CD and all of Akwid's CDs! :)

Another Great Record from the Corason Label.......2005-07-10

The Corason Label from Mexico is very similar to the Folkways Label produced by the Smithsonian Institute. The label specializes in the folk music of Mexico and the Carribean. Since the 1970's the producers at Corason have been travelling the backroads of rural Mexico recording the best traditional music artists.

Los Camperos de Valles are a trio who specializes in the Huapango music of the Huasteca Region of Eastern Mexico. The Trio plays acoustic instruments and sings in the high falsetto on the Son Huasteco. This is traditional Mexican folk music at its very best. Any record produced by the Corason Label is the gold standard by which Mexican and Carribean folk music must be judged. Be sure to check out their "Antologia del Son Mexicano", the single best series recordings ever made of Mexican folk music.

If you haven't heard music from the Huasteca region of Mexico, this would make a wonderful introduction to the style. From the beautiful violin acrobatics and the complex but steady pulse of the jarana and huapanguera (instruments which are variations on the guitar), to the haunting falsetto of the voice, the listener will experience music which is quite different from the more well known styles of Mexican music.
