This marks his unparalleled versatility in today’s world of sitar music with his entry into the realms of worldbeat fusion music. Those who are drawn to the sound of the Sitar and Surbahar (bass sitar), but who perhaps feel daunted by the complexities of classical Indian music, will find much to enjoy in this album. Awakenings highlights Irshad's gifts as a melodicist by keeping the rhythms simple and precise, the song lengths shorter (they average about ten minutes each), and the improvisations accessible. Expanded instrumentation also lends the album a more global flavour, with Middle Eastern, Spanish, Indian, African and Western percussion drums, didgeridu, violins, cellos, double base, guitar, saxophone, piano and other sounds. Besides the recording is also excellent, thus enabling the listener to appreciate the subtle atmospheres which result from the blending of these various elements.

I've had this CD for years -- it's my morning meditation and yoga CD. I've probably listened to it thousands of times and I never tire of it. When I'm wired or spinning out of control, it can bring me right to center. Lately I've been listening to it at work when the noises get to me.

Great balance of authentic nature sounds and music. I've tried others of a similar genre and just keep coming back to this one.

The Best Relaxation CD.......2005-09-21

The concept of 51 bpm (beats per second) or the beats of the heart in rest, transports the listener from a world of peace. Beautiful and inteligent balance between natural sounds and smooth synthesized music. I listen all night to sleep. Buy It.

Sounds like heaven.......2005-05-12

Originally I didn't want a CD with any music, just nature sounds, but I bought this after listening to the two sound clips. I'm so glad I did. It's so peaceful and relaxing. The nature sounds are just right, not too loud or soft or too intermitant. The predominate sounds are a babbling brook, and two different birds in the background. All sound very authentic and definitely not from a computer. Even the music that's played is perfect. It's not a new age song where you can identify a tune throughout. Instead, it's one or two chords that seem to fade in and out. You almost barely notice them. It complements the other sounds perfectly.

I've heard several other relaxation CDs that include music and this is by far the best. There's absolutely nothing that I find annoying. The CD is perfect for meditation or soothing sounds to help you drift off to sleep.

This soundtrack is 5 stars. I know this because I listened to my friend's. I never received mine fromrecordmark@choiceonemail.com through Amazon and I never received my soundtrack and when I asked him about it. He replied "F*ck you, a*shole!" but without the asteriks. He signed it:

Probably some of Randy Newman's best work, goes along with the movie, which creates an emotion, which is exactly what I feel a movie and it's score is supposed to do.

Surprising, but not bad........2005-07-21

Felicia Michaels is something of a conundrum. The first impression you will take from her - I promise - is that she has the most high-pitched voice I've heard on CD. The second is that she is quite explicit in the things she discusses (read - dirty jokes), but she delivers it in a tone that's more like people talking to each other on the phone than a stand up comedian ranting at the audience. The result is that she's actually fairly relaxing to listen to and laugh at - like newer Carlin material gets you tense, she gets you loose.

Felicia Michaels is not one of the comedic masters, but she's certainly entertaining. If you can find it, it's worth picking up.

This might be the absolutely loveliest music you've never heard. Piano-based (with Synclavier for the strings' accompaniment and in-between-tracks nature sounds), this is instrumental music that speaks to your soul. If you like the music of Yanni, you should take a listen to this CD. But if you DON'T like the music of Yanni, you should still listen to this because any Yanni comparison is only a tip of the iceberg in describing the sound of Mr. Bekker. Far and away the best track here is "The Ebb and The Flow": it's dreamy, classical, and romantic- just beautiful, and then it segues into the sound of the surf and the peaceful pulsing synth opening of "Urban Trance". A few years ago, I got Mr. Bekker's "Mirage" CD and it's been a staple favorite in my music collection, regardless of genre. In less than a week of owning "Awakenings", it's quickly jumped into the same category. If you've been looking for some soul-soothing, stress-reducing music, I don't know of any better CD to start with than this one.

I would like to compliment Alison on her beautiful playing and Dave cooke for his unique and complimentary arrangement of this album. This album brought John Field into the present age and transformed it without destroying it. I am not a clasical boffin but this has sparked my interest.

Alison Hood plays the nocturnes of Irish composer John Field with a soft, gentle perfection; never jarring or heavy,even in the most difficult pieces. The softly played whistles and pipes lend interest and an Irish touch to several of the selections. Delightful to listen to at the end of a stressful day.

i had the pleasure of meeting this artist recently, and she is just as special in real life as she is on cd. her beautiful playing is only enhanced by her personality which has made listening to this album even more of a pleasure since meeting her. her skill as a pianist is obvious on every track but really comes into its own on 'around the fairy tree', 'a love is lost but not forgotten' and, my favourite by a long way, 'o'er the moor o'er the mountains'. i will continue to listen to this album daily as i have done since last may, and enjoy the memories.

oh my god...what a lucky day for me when i read the reviews on this album and decided to check it out. this young irish pianist plays the music of field in a arranged in a unique and wonderful way by the well known composer and arranger phil coulter...i'm quite sure the classical snobs will have a "field" day with this one but i hope they have the foresight to look deeper into the beautiful playing on this album and realise that this is the perfect way to bring the music of one of irelands best kept secrets, john field, to a new audience. i look forward to the next album from alison hood. not only does she look wonderful, but she plays like an angel.
