There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
You 're The One That I Want.......2007-04-03
The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.
Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26
This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.
Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06
Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.
This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.
The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

Arriving out of Atlanta like high school sophomores who stole mom's car to hit spring break in Daytona Beach, the 3 brothers and 2 others of Family Force 5 deliver their debut, Business Up Front/Party In The Back. Without a doubt the focus here is on the "party", as most of the record is devoted to getting down, chasing girls ("Drama Queen" sounds like it was written by a 14 year old who just got dumped), and driving around with the radio blasting. Not that there's anything wrong with these things, but the band comes off more like Limp Bizkit's smart-ass little brother than a bunch of kids on a tear.No one would accuse FF5 of over-thinking their music and lyrics--when your album title is a.k.a. a mullet, intellectualism probably isn't your highest priority. Overall, the album seems genetically engineered to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, piled high with 80's synths, rap/rock riffs and shout-along refrains, and name-checking everything from break dancing to Speak & Spells. In the end, trying this hard causes the FF5 to wear out their welcome. It's only when the band drops the catchy chorus on "Kountry Gentleman" or "Love Addict", you may just find yourself speeding down the highway, bobbing your head a little despite your better judgement. --Ben Heege
Album Description
Straight out of the Nu South, Family Force 5 is greazy, beat oriented, righteous Crunk Rock with blistering New Wave guitars and gritty-witty lyrics. Combining Outkast with Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys with the White Stripes, Family Force 5 won two awards-Best Band and Best Live Act-and was nominated for two others at the second annual Atlanta Music Guide Awards in September. Now FF5 redefines the Dirty South with its debut major label album, Business Up Front/Party in the Back.Customer Reviews:

For this movie about 1930s boxer Jim Braddock (Russell Crowe), director Ron Howard interrupted his longtime collaboration with composer James Horner and teamed up with Thomas Newman. It's a wise decision: Newman has a lighter touch and his somber palette emphasizes the fact that Cinderella Man is more thoughtful drama than mere brawling flick (even a track titled "Pugilism" eschews obvious punchiness in favor of ominous, rolling tribal-like percussion. Elsewhere, "Weehawken Ferry" illustrates Newman's ability to write swelling, majestic music that's not bombastic. Typical of the subdued approach is Paul Giamatti's version of "Londonderry Air," which he delicately whistles. The score is interspersed with a few lovely Depression-era tunes such as Chicago tenor saxist Bud Freeman's "Tillie¹s Downtown Now," Roane's Pennsylvanians' "We've Got to Put that Sun Back in the Sky," and especially Eddie Cantor's wonderfully biting "Cheer Up, Smile, Nertz" ("Our judges are queer/Our banks disappear/And all the while they tell us to smiiiiile"). --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:
The Soundtrack to Cinderella Man is great.......2007-01-11
The other example is found in the scene where Joe Gould is seen driving off after just speaking with Jim about his hopes of getting him another fight after Jim had defeated Corn Griffin. Joe is trying to leave before Mae can see him because he knows she would not approve of his talking with Jim and the potential of another fight for her husband. Anyway, just as he gets in the car, and as he drives off, you can here Bud Freeman's "Tillie's Downtown Now" being played--another great song from that era.
Every sound of Cinderella Man is found on this soundtrack. The lone downside to this CD is that the songs are not found in the order they appear in the movie. The first four songs are in order and the last five or so are in order, and the rest is thrown in the middle. They are all there, but as is typical for most soundtracks, they don't all coincide with the order presented in the picture.
This soundtrack is a terrific purchase for any fan of this movie. You will not be disappointed.
Another good score from Thomas Newman........2006-11-07
Very nice.......2006-08-03
Why..........2006-07-11
A fairly conventional score for Thomas Newman, but enjoyable nonetheless.......2006-03-25
The piano is used a lot in the score, making appearances across most of the tracks, including the gentle "The Inside Out" or in "Mae", appear with the delicate strings that we have come to expect from Newman. "Pugilism" makes use of pizzicato movements, whereas the two Irish influenced tracks, "Hope of the Irish" and "Turtle", bring back some more unconventional instruments as one would expect. But largely, the score meanders in the background, establishing a delicate tone and texture, but never really taking a forefront. Of course, I must make mention of the wonderful "Weehawken Ferry", which presents a crisp walking movement of strings, similar to what was heard in Shawshank Redemption. However, it is not until the final few tracks that the music finally free's itself from it's subdued nature and reaches out. "Big Right" explodes with blaring french horns and sharp strings, until it finally fades off and allows the highlight track, "Cinderella Man", to come in. This track is Newman at his best, with his typical soaring string arrangement of the main theme introduced in "The Inside Out", before finally reverting back to quiet woodwinds and piano near the end.
Cinderella Man is by no means an innovative or groundbreaking score - it's a fairly conventional drama score. The same adjectives could be applied to the movie as well. Is it worth the pick-up? Definitely, if you are looking for more Newman goodness. However, if you're looking to get into the world of Newman with a more colorful score - try "Angels in America" or "Road to Perdition".

After being given only a limited UK release four years ago, Dumbing Up has been expanded and is finally available in the US. 2002 was also the year that Karl Wallinger's longrunning, critically lauded and commercially successful World Party fell apart. With this album out and a return to touring, a new generation can be fully exposed to the resonant powers of Wallinger's songs. The first few bars of the opening "Another Thousand Years" make his love of pop smarts, and specifically The Beatles (with its shades of "Baby You're a Rich Man") readily apparent. Elsewhere, there are evident strains of the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and other pillars of well-crafted songs. What makes World Party -- essentially Karl Wallinger -- so compelling is that fact that those influences blend into a singular identity. The references are incorporated into a whole, absorbed, but not hidden. --David GreenbergerCustomer Reviews:
Any World Party is Good World Party (Except Bang).......2007-02-13
Karl W. has been making music for years. Go find the waterboys and listen to This is the Sea or the song Savage Earth Heart. Great.
Now while he was not really the driving force behind them he became the force behind World Party. It is a much more poppy sound and when people say sounds like Beatles, is it because the Beatles are bad. No it is because World Party is good.
The difference between this and the import is 2 songs, Til I Got You and I Thought You Were A Spy are added and All The Love That's Wasted and Little Bit Of Perfection are dropped. That last song is super, nearly worth the price of buying this again as an import.
I have found that his music sounds like many artists, Crowded House and Beatles to name a few. He has a very chimey guitar sound and his hooks are great. Don't let the song Here Comes The Future throw you off. It is not that great and is in no way reflective of any of his other music.
If you like this, do get either Goodbye Jumbo or Egyptology. Those two along with this one are the only ones you need. All are outstanding.
Great.......2007-01-17
There is not a bad or mediocre World Party, although out of the five this one is probably their 2nd best (after Goodbye Jumbo). If you are new to World Party, this is a great place to start - highly recommended.
