5 out of 5 stars Yes! I see the light........2002-09-25

And that light is an album by Chamber Strings called "Month of Sundays". It contains eleven tracks of wonderful pop-rock drenched with lavish string arrangements that remind me of Motown/Cat Stevens/The Beatles. Order it here, because if you don't live near Chicago, you'll never find it.

5 out of 5 stars Superb sophomore release.......2001-05-24

Absolutely magnificent second album. Puts together the mellow influences of Burt Bacharach and Pet Sounds with the soulful sounds of the city--Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, etc. Strings, horns, piano, organ, and vocal harmonies come together to pack an emotional punch. And above all are the songs themselves--truly inspired. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

4 out of 5 stars Big pop sound in a convenient package.......2001-05-04

I heard this band live in studio on KCRW in Los Angeles, and I thought they were really cool. I love strings, especially real strings, so I immediately knew I would like this CD. They have a retro 70's pop sound with a big piano/strings feel. You feel like their concerts should really be performed in a symphony hall and not in a traditional rock concert setting. I often hear country flairs in this music as well. Wilco is probably a good comparison. Even Tahiti 80 if you mellow it out and take away the electronic influence.

This is not the most innovative music out there, but it has a home and is unique, especially for this era in music history. This is a great band, and for those of you missing mellow pop music, hop in your red flame decaled thunderbird and go for a road trip with your new Chamber Strings CD.

4 out of 5 stars Month of Sundays.......2001-04-05

Since I live in Chicago I was able to pick this one up before it was officially released. And I am glad I did. Reminiscent of a time when strings, piano and horns were added to pop music without a second thought, this album has the feel of good 70's pop.

Month of Sundays takes its cues from a time when the album was an art form in itself. There is an instrumental theme, which shows up in different variations, that creates a thread like a forgotten memory or dream throughout the album. The songwriting is similar to Carole King and Brian Wilson. It is confessional and personal, yet universal. At times I am almost reminded of the Smiths, though the album does not sound like them at all. Wilco's "Summerteeth" album is a more current album which it could be compared to. And one song was even co-written by Wilco's bass player.

If you care for good songwriting like the above mentioned artists and like well-orchestrated pop, you can't go wrong with Chamber Strings' "Month of Sundays".

4 out of 5 stars Unique sound.......2005-03-18

The last time I saw this band was in the mid-90's, but I found this CD the other day & played it again to see if I would like it as much now as I did then. Surprisingly, I did. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn good. "Waiting" is one of my favorites, with "Better" probably a close second. Definitely a mix of styles, some a little more rock, some a little more of a "layered" sound. Some with a socially-concious message, some just plain fun. All in all, pretty good music.

5 out of 5 stars masterful music - epic talent.......2003-01-17

I saw these guys when I was in college(early 90s). I don't know if these guys are still together, but they should be. This album is truly amazing. Excellent mix of songwriting and orchestration. I believe these guys were based out of Atlanta and toured the college circuit. Buy this album!

4 out of 5 stars Better than Braveheart.......2004-09-21

My only introduction to Scottish music being the soundtrack to "Braveheart," I purchased that album mainly to listen to bagpipes. Not many abound on the soundtrack, however, and it was back to watching funerals on TV and hearing "Amazing Grace" if I wanted to listen to "the pipes."

This album is full of pipes, every track, all the time. Guitar and drums and other instrumentation back the music, which is upbeat and stirring in the same breath.

Mike Katz, the bagpiper, has cut his teeth playing for the Scotland-based folk band The Battlefield Band. Although originally from L.A., Katz has lived in Scotland for some time, moving there originally to study the instrument.

If you are interested in hearing bagpipes, in both contemporary and classic motifs, this is the album for you.

      Album Description

"Click" is the debut CD from A Month of Sundays, a rock band with a bluesy-pop background from Washington, DC. The album was recently nominated for "Best Rock Recording" by the Washington Area Music Association (the "Wammies"). Receiving great reviews, "Click" is being heard more and more in the region. The eight original tracks are a brisk and biting combination of melody and energy.

      5 out of 5 stars Great stuff.......2005-06-01

This is just good music, plain and simple. I listen to a lot of local acts and these guys should be signed. I don't know what the record industry wants, but this stuff should sell. A friend of mine turned me onto AMOS about a year ago.

I've seen them live once. They were great! I heard they were doing another album, more rock. I can't wait. AMAZON, please make it available.

Try them out. I recommend, "Breezeway", "You'll Be The One", "Setzer" and hell, the rest of the album too...

Okay - so I'm an atheist, and I was searching the net for any recordings by a guy who used to be in an obscure UK folk-prog band in the late sixties, early seventies. The band is called 'The Strawbs', and the guy is called Tony Hooper. I found this record but couldn't get any information about it. So - I bought it. Imagine my suprise when an album of country-rock born again Christian music shows up. BUT WAIT A MINUTE. You have to take your hat off to Mr Hooper. He wrote all the songs, played everything except bass & drumms, does the singing, the production, everything. And there's some tasty slide guitar work in there - the guy is no slouch. And most of the songs are really pretty good. Bad Things, Good People is my favourite. I'd recommend it to any other atheists out there ... and hey - the Christians might dig it too.
