This kind of musical cohesion does not happen overnight and the years of hard work invested by these guys has paid off handsomely. The writing is both intricate and accessible, the singing is precise without being square, and the solos are models of economy and swing. Additionally, with the stateside arrival of groups like Los Van Van and NG La Banda people are finally getting a chance to experience Cuban music on a firsthand basis. As exciting as this may be, in reality many contemporary groups like Van Van play their music with electric guitars, synthesizers and trap drums, none of which are endemic to the Charanga tradition. Consequently, many folks are getting a very "fusion" oriented version of this rich style. Fortunately, a group like Bongo-Logic permits fans of this style to experience the music in a relatively undiluted fashion. It may be ironic that an American-based band is the torch-bearer for the traditional Charanga sound, but the truth is these cats, traditional or otherwise are undoubtedly burning down the house. You may not have fire insurance yet, but once you take this record home you will definitely be needing it.
