Album Description
presenting raging tunes of a brutal blended sound featuring reckless metal marks and punk rock-inspired strains, evergreen terrace delivers their own particular melodic vision of hardcore. only months after forming, the band released its first demo ep, broken, giving them considerable notice within the acksonville local music scene. during the following year, et independently issued another ep, a split disc with cordelle, before embarking on their first u.s. tour. in 2001, the band again entered the recording studio, delivering losing all hope is freedom, their debut full length album. the follow-up, burned alive by time, appeared late the next year before a spring 2003 split with xone fif was issued. the covers album writer's block surfaced in early 2004, which featured evergreen tackling songs by a range of bands, including operation ivy, tears for fears, u2, and smashing pumpkins. early demos and random live cuts were compiled that same year for at our worst. their next proper full-length, the screamo-tinged sincerity is an easy disguise in this business, was released in june 2005. Sincerity... would prove to be et's break out release more than doubling the sales of the band's prior works. summer 2006 was spent on the sounds of the underground tour alongside heavy-hitters like as i lay dying, in flames, cannibal corpse, trivium and the black dahlia murder, and before hooking up with throwdown and zao that fall. all of this activity paid off by early 2007 in the form of a deal with metal blade.
Customer Reviews:
Great cd, heavy from start to finish!.......2007-07-31
I have liked Evergreen terrace for a while now and have downloaded most o their songs but this is the first cd I have bought from them. From beginning to the end, the cd is very hard and heavy and i can honestly say that every song is great. This album with definitely get you pumped up.
Wow. Definitely shows how much they've grown........2007-07-27
This album really shows what Evergreen Terrace is capable of. In my opinion, Sincerity... was a disappointment overall albeit a few notable tracks. This album, however is just awesome. Heavy tracks like "Bad Energy Troll," "Rip This!" and "Rolling Thunder Mental Illness" just get you pumped for a pit, while songs like "Where There Is Fire We Will Carry Gasoline," "Starter," and "The Damned" leave you with an epic and yet peaceful feeling. I love how ET can effortlessly mix heavy sounds with awe-inspiring melodies that make their songs memorable. Overall, this album is excellent and a must have. Simply awesome.

A Real Treat!.......2007-02-16
As someone who works from home, this is a wonderful collection to put on during the day. The beautiful arrangements of some of film's most memorable music is a treat to listen to day in and day out. I was one of those looking for music from the "Cousins" soundtrack. I'm so much happier to have found this CD with more great music than I could've bargained for. I'm very glad to have this in my collection!

One of the best of a now tired scene.......2006-08-07
Evergreen terrace are truly good at what they do. While they may sound a lot like countless other bands in this now overbloated scene, just remember, Evergreen terrace were there long before any of the newer bands came out. Evergreen Terrace beautifully mix agression with melody and clean vocals, a lot like all the other bands out there now, but like i said, just remember, Evergreen was one of the first. Check them out if you want to know who helped jump start this scene
I like it.......2006-05-25
I've listened to a lot of different metal bands, and I have to say that while this isn't "groundbreaking" or "new" I like it, and that's all that matters. This is a great hardcore album, I would give it 5 stars but I didn't like all of the songs. I will say, that the album starts off well with "Dogfight" which is easily one of my favorite songs on this album.
If you like hardcore then you will want to pick up this album, if you don't, then you won't.
I would comment on this bands previous albums, but this is their only album I have.
hmmm.......2006-05-11
I enjoyed their previous albums and I was hoping that this one would do the same as well. But I guess not. I can't believe people are giving them 5 stars. There isn't much of originality here, so today I sold the CD.
The End.
for the fans and the newbies..........2006-04-15
This is their most recent album (there are rumors of them writing another one). Andrew is the screamer and Craig...(not andrew as opposed to the comment below me)...is the softer singer, he sings "the pretty stuff". This release makes me continue to love ET with all my heart. Some will argue that Burned Alive By Time is much better than this one...but i say you pick up both copies and see for yourself. This band has such
talent and it's an easy listen for hardcore kids.
this is good.......2005-12-24
Evergreen Terrace is a good band...i got into them by a friend, and i thought they were pretty awesome...Burned Alive by Time is a good CD, alittle bit better than this..this CD is good..."Dog Fight" "New Friend Request" and "I Say You He Dead" are my favorite songs...the lyrics are good, and Andrew can scream..and i think he does the singing...and the singing is good
for fans of Killswitch Engage, and Atreyu

With his taffy voice, lissome melodies, lyrical wisdom, and lively wordplay, Steve Forbert has never sounded more candid and confident than on his ninth studio album. As if soaking up all the Memphis vibes of the legendary Ardent studios where it was recorded, Evergreen Boy is also the most sonically satisfying record of his career. Jim Dickinson (who produced Big Star's classic Sister Lovers and played on landmark albums by Aretha Franklin and the Rolling Stones) reconciles Forbert's rock and folk sensibilities while introducing a knock-out dose of deep soul with sanctified organ lines and understated horn charts. Lyrically, Forbert continues to combine melancholy restlessness with a sure faith in human character. "I went down through a dark ordeal," Forbert broods, only to feel "a breeze from the springtime heather / And as it breathed on me / I could feel how my heart could heal." Like John Prine and Greg Brown, Forbert remains a great comic voice, not because he's clever, but through finding a fresher joy by never shrinking from heartache and doubt. --Roy Kasten
Customer Reviews:
Marching To The Beat of His Own Drum.......2001-05-23
Hello out there in cyberspace. One expects a review of this new CD by Steve Forbert to be read mostly by his fans, so I suppose I am "preaching to the choir".
This new collection of songs are infused with lots of the wisdom, weariness, and observations of the irony found in everyday life, typical of Mr. Forbert. Noticeably absent are the Steve Fobert tunes that cook. Instead these tunes simmer. Some of the words get blurred in the background. The songs come from the heart, and they gently bemoan the spiritual dearth in America. "The kind of car you drive, won't keep your love alive" laments Mr. Forbert in one song.
Hello out there in cyberspace....if you have not heard of Steve Forbert, and are not really aware of his stuff, you owe it to yourself to discover one of America's best modern story telling/ song writers. This CD is a great place to start !
enduring.......2000-08-01
...oops, brainlock in my previous review. I meant to list Evergreen Boy on a par with The American In Me, Streets of This Town, Jackrabbit Slim and Alive on Arrival, not the self-titled record which I consider to be his least listenable.
A Quality Release, but Too One Dimensional.......2000-05-24
Evergreen Boy is yet another quality release from America's most talented, yet overlooked, folk-country-rock artist of the past twenty years. The combination of songwriting, guitar playing, harmonica, and vocals is truly extraordinary. I would encourage anyone interested in the folk-rock genre to give Steve Forbert a listen, and Evergreen Boy is as good a place to start as anywhere (although I highly recommend The American in Me, Streets of this Town, and Rocking Horse Head).
With that said, I do have some minor criticisms of Evergreen Boy. First, while several cuts are as good as anything he has done ("Something's Got a Hold on Me," "Strange," "Rose Marie"), others grow tiresome with play ("Winter Song," "Breaking Through," "Trusting Old Soul"), and the song "It Doesn't Matter Much," while catchy, is a bit trite. Second, in contrast to Forbert's previous releases, I find Evergreen Boy a bit too subdued (melancholy?) for my taste. Perhaps like the calming effect of a good brandy on occasion, but too uniform nonetheless. What I have enjoyed most about Forbert's past releases is the mixture of insightful songs of introspection with "lightning-in-his-bones" rock n' roll. Evergreen Boy delivers on the former, but is devoid of the latter. Perhaps Forbert is simply in a subdued mood these days. Finally, I CAN BARELY HEAR FORBERT'S ACOUSTIC GUITAR OVER THE POUNDING DRUMS & BASS!!
All in all, a quality release, if not a bit one dimensional.
His Best Work In Years.......2000-03-13
Being mildly disappointed with the last few Forbert releases I was somewhat apprehensive about his latest outing. There were moments of brilliance in the last few years-- "It Is What It Is" and "Trouble With Angels"among others... but the rest of his recordings were sometimes overproduced and not always strong from start to finish. Having said that "Evergreen Boy" is Forberts best work in years...maybe ever. Although the production is simple, the stories and feeling incorporated in them are not. From the opening track the recording demands your attention and keeps it on your journey through the 13 songs. "Strange," a song about best friends seperated by their own stubborness is my personal favorite. The CD flows wonderfully and is one of those rare recordings that doesn't get tiring. As mentioned below Forbert is now an artist years removed from radio..and its a shame. His style and lyrics include an honesty and feeling rarely found these days.
a seamless album.......2000-03-12
I managed to buy this Cd on it's first day of UK release and how pleased I am. It's a great record-in my opinion his most consistent since American in Me. Each track seems to segue beautifully into the next and some of the songs are absolute classics-Rosemarie,Late Winter Song just two of many.If you buy Evergreen Boy I'm sure you will not be disappointed!

Album Description
Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan is an ensemble of eight professional Canadian musicians with classical western musical training and extensive performance experience. They perform and record on an extended gamelan Degung indigenous to the Indonesian province of West Java (Sunda). Founded in 1983 and based in Toronto, Canada, this unique performing ensemble is dedicated to the development and expansion of its repertoire through the commissioning of new works by composers from Canada and around the world, as well as performing traditional Sundanese music. This recording presents a selection of such traditional pieces together with recent works by Sundanese composers, all in new arrangements by Evergreen Club members.
Customer Reviews:
A soothing escape to a tropical paradise.......2005-03-12
The title says it all. It is an experience of music from another culture which in my mind is associated with a tropical paradise which I imagine existed prior to Dutch colonialism of now present day Indonesia. The gamelan orchestra consists of various sizes of suspended metallophones (percussion instruments with tuned metal bars), small bulbed gongs, large suspended gongs, and drums. With the soft gentle percussive nature of the music, the experience that I get from it is an expression of the slower tranquilizing rhythms of nature. This album is well worth the $9.98 for anyone looking to explore other realms of music.

More does not necessarily mean better.......2005-09-21
This recording sounds less like the Boston Pops and more like 101 Strings. (That's not a compliment.) In fact, I know there are better performances of each one out there. These are actually all pleasant, familiar pieces which I like. I'm not at all sure they should all be on the same album. If you want background music while you're reading, or making love, this is perfect. If you're driving late at night and trying to stay awake, not so good! In short, the sum is less than the total of its parts. But I'm giving it a 3, because I do like most of the individual pieces, and I never give more than 4.

they whoop ass.......2005-12-03
I'm not a cussin man...but this CD kicks ass. Theres so much nostalgia associated with this CD in my mind, but even when I first got it, I was blown away.
this is sick.......2004-11-05
i saw evergreen terrace live w/ calico system, and the songs i heard were intense, the cd was ten times better, this is a powerful and intense band, if you like GOOD music, then pick this up, its worth every bit you pay
The Best.......2004-09-16
This is the best overall band i have ever heard. Just the fact that at any given moment they have 2 layers of vocals, one screaming and one singing is awesome. Their guitar players have a differen't style, first with their low tunning and second with their not so technical but still magnetic playing. Their drummer has some of the coolest beats i have heard, almost as good as the reverend from Avenged Sevenfold. Their overall clash of hardcore and melodic makes this the best, and this cd being their first is the best because it represents how they really wanted to sound. But their other one is right up their beside it so look into that one as well.
Good Album but Not Essential.......2004-09-03
I picked this cd up at local show becuase a friend told me they were good. Well I am not sure what all the fuss is about this band because to me they sound pretty generic. Yes, this is a good cd but I rarely listen to it when there are much better bands out there. Unfortunately I have missed many opportunitys to see this band live due to school work or vacation or whatnot. Maybe if I ever do see them live then my opinion will go up becuase I have heard that put on a good show so we'll see. Anyway if you're really into hardcore then you'll probably enjoy this, but if you like metal more then I probably wouldn't recommend it.
friggin amazing.......2004-08-23
EVERGREEN TERRACE IS ONE BAND THAT PUTS RAW EMOTION AND POWER INTO THEIR MUSIC! when i saw in my city with Every Time I Die, they blew the house away, or at least me because it was so great and the hardcore pits where their usual brutal selves and those are always fun to go into.

Customer Reviews:
*Very* Boring.......2005-10-17
This CD is so boring. I'm terribly dissapointed I bought it. I was expecting some jamming music and instead got slow dreamy instrumentalism that I don't like at all. If that picture of Chuck Leavell doing some wierd kum-bah-ya meditation stuff had been on the front cover instead of inside the package I would have been tipped off before spending any money. I can't imagine what this has to do with the South that I grew up in.
CHuck Leavell - Southscape.......2005-09-23
This is an interesting diversion for Leavell. Best known for his work with the Allman Brothers Band and The Rolling Stones this is quite a departure. I saw Chuck sit in with the ABB in MA this past summer and his contribution and interpay with the band was great. On Southscape Chuck surrounds himself with a very fluid rhythm section and flourishes are added by guitarist Larry Carlton and multi-instrumentalist and fellow southern star, Randall Bramblett. A really good, interesting effort. Jazz with a southern flavor? A good listen - relaxing and well thought out. Nice in the background on the patio or deck.

A Level!.......2005-08-31
Having been a long time fan of Sea Level, I eagerly looked forward to this release....and it does not disappoint on any level...no pun intended, well maybe just a little. And I was greatly pleased to see Randall Bramlett make an appearance on 4 tracks....Randall is a gem.....as are all the players (including Larry Carlton) on this fine CD. This is warm southern jazz/rock that Chuck does so well....with tasty playing thruout (especially a fine sax solo from Tim Reis on "Ashley")...I feel right at home on Chuck's bayou...enjoying his southern landscapes....this is good stuff. All tracks-outstanding!

A Covers Album Worth Listening To? HELL YEAH!!.......2006-08-08
Evergreen terrace has always been one of my favorite bands. They are one of the few in the hardcore/metalcore scene today who have found a way to make the genre their own. And with "Writer's Block," they have created a cover's album worth listening to.
Eevry song covered on here is a winner. They have found interesting ways to create popular songs, especially on U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday," and Offspring's "The Kid's Aren't Alright". And the hidden track, a meddley of Poison's "Every Rose Has A Thorn" and the Spongbob Square Pants Theme is completely hillarious.
it's pretty darn good........2006-04-15
Evergreen Terrace found such a creative way to cover some great songs. I think this album is amazing. If you truly love hardcore you will enjoy the music that has been recreated. Wether it's a depeche mode cover, or a U2 cover. But, do not take this album seriously as to their musical abilities. This was just a quick release for fans to eat up while they worked on their new album....
What's wrong with this album? Nothing.......2005-07-15
Nothing beats their cover of sunday bloody sunday", it's just plain amazing. anybody that disses this album doesn't know what great hardcore is.
Kind of a let down.......2005-07-05
I love Evergreen Terrace with all of my HXC heart, but this album wasnt as good as i wanted it to be. ET is one of my favorite bands of all time, but i like their originals alot better than their covers. However dont be discouraged from buying it if you are really having an ET craving. A couple of the covers are really good. Maybe im just hating on it because im not a big fan of the originals. Anyway, go pick up 'Burned Alive by Time' if you havent, and if you have, maybe check out these covers on the album:
"Zero"
"Mad World" (My Favorite)
"Maniac"
"Brave Reality"
"The Kids arent alright"
You suck!.......2005-06-13
Some of these song were good before ET put their no-talent hands all over them. Anyone who is pretending to like this should come to terms with how unbelievabley terrible it is. This band should stick to ruining their own songs.
The one star is for actually making the offspring sound better by comparison. Way to go.
