Perfect combination.......2004-10-02
Envisioned and created by both Simone and Ivan Lins, this work came to fruition as Simone's best album in the last 20 years.A renowned superstar and performer in her country and around the world,Simone Bittencourt had not released a more consistent album since AMAR in 1981.This great Cd features Lins,Zeca Pagodinho and Dudu Nobre on some of the tracks accompanying her
and only enriching the landscape that this album already is.In songs such as the title track and E FESTA,the listener finds himself dancing. While humming to others such as CINICA,VENEZIANA and ATLANTIDA you might be taken back to her albums of the late 70's such as PEDAçOS and even cry along with it.Overall,a classic

WORTH BUYING TWCE!!!!!!.......2006-11-03
I waited with bated breath for this cd after seeing Simone (que voz maravillosa!) for the first time ealrier this year. Ivan Lins also appeared at this concert and the chemistry beteween these two was incredible. The album is a phenomenal piece of work and had me dancing and humming and practicing the liner notes with my bad portuguese. I especially loved "E Festa" and have been playing it over and over.
One negative; I got the import version and it wouldn't play on my pc. As someone whose only stereo is his pc, I was disappointed. I've now purchased the US released version as this was too good not to have.
WORTH BUYING TWICE!!!!!
Simone & Ivan Lins, Together Again.......2005-12-04
Back in the late 1970s, Simone broke through as one of the leading female vocalists in Brazilian popular music. One of her biggest hits was "Comecar de novo", the theme song of a popular TV series. The song (later on dreadfully translated to English as "The Island" and covered by Barbra Streisand) was co-written by Ivan Lins, whose songs she consistently recorded throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. However, as Simone's popularity grew in the early 1980s (filling stadiums and selling many records), so did the disdain of Brazilian critics, who claimed all her recordings (which mostly consisted of ballads sprinkled with a few sambas) were only commercially driven. Simone's career had cooled off significantly by the late 1990s, but in 2004, after being critically maligned for years, she got some of the best reviews in her career with this CD, which re-teamed her with Ivan Lins. Simone and Lins have similar deep voices. (I dislike facile comparisons, but for the sake of the uninitiated, her deep voice sounds like a much softer, less dramatic version of Maria Bethania's.) If you like Ivan Lins, you'll like this CD. Simone's in great voice throughout and Lins' songs (the repertoire switches between love ballads and sambas) are consistently good, even though, truth be told, none of them has really lingered on my mind as their classic 1970s recordings. Still, this classy CD is very highly recommended.
You've got to get this CD!.......2005-02-24
I was browsing in a music store when I fingers reached for this CD. Based on the cover, I thought it was a new CD by Ivan Lins and a woman next to him was a model. I was surprised to discover the singer is not Lins, but the woman posing next to him, "Simone." I am aware of the major female Brazilian singers (Costa, Passos, Nunes, Regina, Gilberto, Souza, etc.), but I have never heard of her before. I love samba, bossa nova, boleros and afro-cuban music. This CD presents all of these varied musical styles with incredible style, gusto and grace. I have never heard of Simone, but as a result of this CD, I am now one of her biggest fans. She has a souful, senusal style. I love her intonation and beautiful "Ella-sque" subtle chord changes. She also brings a slight edginess when the music requires it. Her sambas are joyous and vivacious. As a singer, I would put her in the same category with the great Joao Gilberto. (Yes! I know he's a guy.) Every song on the CD is terrific. Not one bad track in the bunch. There are some sambas that will make you shake your hips and dance barefoot in your kitchen. This CD is a must for those who love Brazilian music and who long to bring a piece of Bahia into their living rooms.
