There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulley

The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.

5 out of 5 stars Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26

Well here we are with a great piece of history.

This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.

5 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06

I'm enjoying listening to this great soundtrack that I loved as a child after a long hiatus. I had it on 8-track 25 years ago. So it's fitting that I should get the 25th Anniversary Edition on CD. The 24 songs from the movie are just as everyone remembers them, so I'll talk about the Bonus Disc, which contains 10 alternative versions of the songs plus 2 previously unreleased instrumentals from the film.

Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.

This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.

The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

3 out of 5 stars If You Love Grease, You'll Love This - Only 1 Major Flaw.......2004-05-15

Disc 1 is like the original album, which I also own. 1 major flaw is that "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" cuts off at the very end of it! I was upset by this, hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Disc 2 is a lot of fun w/some remixes and sing-a-longs, all in all, I'm pretty happy with it being that I'm a HUGE Grease fan. If you like Grease, you'll love this, it's fun. Too bad when they "remastered" it, they didn't catch there 1 mistake. Oh well, at least I have it on another album.

For his third collaboration with director Sam Mendes (after American Beauty and The Shawshank Redemption), composer Thomas Newman has come up with one of his finest scores. The music mixes modern atmospheric quasi-rock touches with Middle Eastern influences (with particularly great success on the tracks "Welcome to the Suck" and "Zoomies."). The latter manifest themselves in both the beats and the instrumentation--the credits include soloists on exotic instruments such as the bowed cumbus (a type of banjo-like lute) and the processed xaphoons (a sax made of bamboo). All the more jarring, then, when the CD's handful of songs pop up. (It's quite a jolt to hear Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy" after four eerie instrumental tracks.) The other song picks are obvious but well chosen: T-Rex's "Bang a Gong (Get It On)," "Naughty by Nature's "O.P.P.," Public Enemy's "Fight the Power," and Tom Waits's "Soldier's Things." Still, it's Newman's work that propels this CD, not the pick-up songs. Surprisingly, Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries," which figures in one of the movie's most memorable scenes (when soldiers watch Apocalypse Now), isn't included here. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars You fools!.......2006-10-27

I am reading all the negative reviews of this soundtrack, and most of them mention the absence of Kanye West's "Jesus Walks." One reviewer gives the album one star because he was "misled" into buying the album.

Um, hello? This is an instrumental score for the film! NOT a Various Artists soundtrack! This is, you may have noticed, an album that falls under the name of Thomas Newman! If anyone bought this expecting other music, then it's entirely their own fault. It even says on the front: "MUSIC BY THOMAS NEWMAN."

That said, I'd also like to correct Amazon on something - they said this is Newman's third outing with Mendes, the other two being "Shawshank Redemption" and "American Beauty."

Shawshank was directed by Frank Darabont, NOT Sam Mendes.

Mendes' other pairing with Newman was actually on 2002's "Road to Perdition," which is another great soundtrack I'd heartily recommend purchasing.

3 out of 5 stars Missing Theme Song - but otherwise not bad.......2006-03-01

If you've watched the previews for this film, you're likely expecting a song called Jesus Walks by Kanye West to be on the soundtrack but it's not there - very annoying. But otherwise it's a pretty good CD of music to listen to while you work out or drive fast.

3 out of 5 stars Fine score, but a consumer warning for the CD.......2006-01-20

Thomas Newman's original music for JARHEAD is not only typically daring with many unconventional sounds (utilizing samples, electronic treatments and exotic percussion), but one of his most stirring, rock-influenced efforts as well (as with the opening track, "Welcome to the Suck"). At first I thought there were no melodies as memorable as "Dead Already" from AMERICAN BEAUTY or "Road to Chicago" from ROAD TO PERDITION, but the 3/4-time march used in both "Raining Oil" and "Desert Storm" has grown on me. Of course the CD is recommendable for Newman's score alone. But...

...while one doesn't buy a CD of this nature primarily for the extra songs, one does expect the extras to be competently presented when they appear. So I was taken aback to hear Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" at a faster tempo and higher pitch than usual, as though mastered from a sped-up tape. I can't think of any intentional reason for this, so I'm assuming it was a mistake, but either way I found it not only annoying in itself but because of "Fight the Power"'s thematic significance, with its reference to the Bobby McFerrin tune heard earlier in the movie. ("'Don't Worry Be Happy' was a number one jam/Damn if I say it you can slap me right here".)

So then, while I like the Thomas Newman score a lot, I'm docking the CD a star for the sped-up "Fight the Power". Caveat emptor.

5 out of 5 stars Thomas Newman is a Genius!.......2006-01-07

Thomas Newman is brilliant as always and delivers beautifully. Having read the book prior to the motion picture, Thomas Newman truly brings Swofford's tale to life. If you enjoyed The Horse Whisperer or the Shawshank Redemption score, then you'll thoroughly enjoy Jarhead.

3 out of 5 stars Almost perfect for the film, loses points as a cd.......2005-12-23

Make no mistake - Jarhead proves Thomas Newman's abillity to write music for film. He is not making the music in order to show off his amazing talents, he is making the music so it is perfect for the film. Whereas some composers might score depressing scenes with grand sweeping movements trying to make themselves look like complex composers, Newman knows what will enhance the scene and what won't, and what can convey the message required.

Ultimately, this describes Jarhead perfectly. I have seen the movie and music is seamless and perfect for it. For the most part, there is a sonic texture created, with guitars and drums to represent the bravado of the characters. If you are a fan of Newman's stirring orchestral works this is definitely not something you would like. Newer fans of "American Beauty" and the like will find things to enjoy here, but not in as vibrant or pleasing a way as in that album. The score on it's own is just not as exciting or involving as it could be. It is interesting in it's own right, but not very pleasing to hear. However, there are many good tracks interspersed throughout the score to take you to the good spot.

Overall, Jarhead warrants a 4.5/5 for the film, but on a cd, it's score drops to 3/5. It is pleasant at times, and mostly an interesting CD, but there are too many Newman masterpieces to consider this one high on your buying list. Then agan, if you are a Newman fan, this CD should satisfy you're urge to see what the guy is up to. Final score? Three out of five.

5 out of 5 stars It's finally Raining in the USA.......2007-06-03

One year ago I was flipping through the TV channels and quite by accident, I landed on an Asian channel playing the video of Bi singing the song "I Do" from this album. He was such a little cutie!!! Although I didn't understand a word; I found the song and the artist pleasantly appealing. He had a smooth voice, wonderful smile and Boy, could he dance! I have since listened to every one of his songs, watched every video/television show/drama/game show/commercial and movie he has ever done. I find him to be an extremely talented and honorable individual. He is coming to Los Angeles in June and I have tickets to see him in person on his World Tour promoting his latest album, "Rain's Coming". Proceeds from this concert are being given to a foundation that provides for children whose parents have died from AIDS. How thriling it is to not only get to see this dynamic entertainer; I am also able to help support those children. This young man (whom I refer to as the Korean Gene Kelly) is refreshing, admirable and still just as cute as can be!!! Across the USA, young girls and young at heart grandmothers (like me) will love and support him. Guys will want to be like him. I strongly recommend this and any other Bi/Rain album/DVD/CD. Rain's coming and we will be the better for it.

5 out of 5 stars Rainy Days.......2006-07-17

He is known as the triple threat of Asia, acting, singing, and dancing; excelling at all three. It's impossible to try to single out one song specifically, to make superior to the fourteen others. Because, in truth, every single one of his songs are amazing. His smooth voice captures you in the first track, and keeps you in a state of harmony till the last. All the while, you're under his wondrous spell of music magnificence. He defiantly doesn't lack anything in this CD, which has to be, no doubt, the best of his previous work, and even the best of the best ever heard. He has an exquisite, deep, smooth, and sexy voice which he most defiantly knows how to use.

His all immediate tone, melody, and lyrics are the complete blend for an attack on the Korean Music Industry. His music is a fresh, wonderful combination of ballads and dance songs, accompanied by a voice that will never die.

As said previously, Bi (real name: Jeong Ji-Hoon; Bi means Rain translated from Korean to Enlgish) is a widely known Korean heartthrob. He has been on the beginning of the list for top 100 most influential people of the world for 2006. He has the most mesmerizing voice and an incredibly strong, powerful presence onstage. Not only is he a superb singer, but he is also admired for his Michael Jackson/Justin Timberlake dance moves. Along with those many greatly prized abilities, he also has a love for the camera. He's a remarkable actor, which you can see for yourself in his forever loved korean drama series -Full House. He represents Asia altogether and is loved endlessly throughout the world. Along with all those many great aspects, he has the most enticing, muscular, body. He also has a warm heart made purely of gold, along with a smile that brightens your day. With his boyish grin, his eyes crinkle and sparkle, filled with delight; they completely disappear. With a hand always extended to his adoring fans, he strives to be a role model for everyone. Which he is, along with one of the highest ranked people of influence. With all of Asia and the rest of the world's devotion, he is very highly respected. You just cannot seem to resist having a soft spot for this irresistible, multi-talented, achiever.

I have this CD, and when you first hear it, you would understand why it's completely worth the money. Don't miss out on such a great album, or singer. Bi, does make music history with every step he takes. His two concerts in the USA (NY) for this CD, were sold out within a few days (Concert called: Rainy Day in New York, took place: February 2006). Bi's other concerts for this CD, which were spread throughout all of Asia were sold out on the first day! In Tokyo, tickets were sold out literally in 30 seconds! In Taiwan, the moment they were on sale they were sold out! In Hong Kong it took a matter of a few hours for the concert to be sold out! His 3rd album "It's Raining" has been released in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and has top the foreign music charts in those countries; selling over millions world-wide.

Bi has become close friends with B2K leader, Omarion, who actually danced to his song Bad Boy during his concerts in NY, their said to record a duet together next time Bi is in the states, and even star in a movie together! Besides for Full House, another great drama you should check out is Sang Doo Let's Go To School, starring Bi as well; and A Love to Kill also starring Bi.

Obviously he has done a lot. In the end, I'm just trying to make my point to buy this album because it's just that good.

A Dedicated Fan,
Maira, 16yrs.

4 out of 5 stars Finally male Asian performance artists gettin some love! Now when does Wang Lee Hom come? .......2006-04-26

I bought the album in Taiwan due to all the hype I saw on MTV over there. I bought it just for the one song "I do" with the very CUTE music video for that song. I listened to the whole CD and I love the whole feel of it with the smooth, sassy, R&B/hip hop feel to it. My fav is "I do" but now also "Biggest Thing" and "?????? ft Huh In Chang" (sorry I just have the Chinese title from my CD!)I heard he performed in NYC?? Theres alot of talent in the East its unfortunate that not alot of these guys get recognition for it in the West for it. I look forward to seeing more of Rain and some other guys showing up in the US music scene. I also REALLY like Wang Lee Hom (??f??)...he has alot of the same feel as RAIN as a Mandarin Chinese singer from Taiwan, and he's extemely musically talented...RAIN is a featured singer in one of his songs in his newest album "Heroes of Earth". Both RAIN and Wang Lee Hom include traditional aspects of their respective Asian cultures into their music and that's also something I really enjoy! I want to see more of RAIN and Wang Lee Hom in the US music scene (esp since Wang Lee Hom is also American)

3 out of 5 stars Nice Voice.......2006-04-16

Rain has a very nice voice and is one of the best Eastern dancers. Some of the songs in this album don't stand out a lot, but if you enjoy his singles, you will probably like all of them! the trick is to listen to it a few times, that's all. He's one of the most popular Korean singers as well as actors. He is a very successful actor, and you can't deny his profession, definitely has potential to conquer the world. But, the songs are still sort of disappointing. I'm not that much into his type of music, though the first four songs are magnificent!

5 out of 5 stars Hot and talented!.......2006-04-05

His music is great and his dancing is even greater. he has a really nice voice. I recommend this highly! He is also a great actor and I loved him in the Korean Drama "Full House"-- which has zero to do with America's Full House (you know the Tanner Family). Can't wait for him to release that English album, I hope he does well over here in the states!

Scott Walker was born Noel Engel in Ohio more than 50 years ago, moved to England in 1965, and scored a series of pop hits there--initially as a member of the Walker Brothers, a duo in which neither member was named Walker, nor were they siblings. From 1967 onward, he worked solo. Walker charted only once in his homeland, but he connected regularly in England between '65 and '69 with rueful, heavily-orchestrated pop statements that sounded like Engelbert Humperdinck crossed with Louis-Ferdinand Celine. This overview features 17 flamboyant psychodramas. Walker's work faded into the ether for a couple of decades following their release (at least where Americans were concerned), only to catch on with a morose brood that includes Mark Eitzel, Nick Cave, Marc Almond, and Eric Matthews. The likes of "The Old Man's Back (Dedicated to the Neo-Stalinist Regime)" may take some getting used to, but, at a minimum, one must pay heed to a deadpan socialist teen idol who hosted his own variety show. --Steven Stolder

5 out of 5 stars Wow, what a voice!.......2002-06-14

There is no easy way to classify this music. Rock, pop, even "symphonic lounge music" doesn't convey anything meaningful about Scott Walker. It is the opposite of "easy listening". In fact I would call it "hard listening", not in the sense of difficult or unpleasant, but in the sense of the intensity required to listen to it properly - like playing hard. Scott Walker is thrilling and exhilarating to listen to. He can be harsh and angry, but when he is gentle, he is as warm as the home hearth on Christmas. His voice has uncommon strength and his rich baritone blasts, shimmers, caresses, threatens and exults. While there are some aspects of the orchestral arrangements that are clearly late sixties, the music and the lyrics are so immediate that they unbind themselves from the age.

This collection is very similar to "Boy Child", which I believe is only available as an import. "Boy Child" is the superior collection, and I recommend you choose it in preference to this collection, even at a higher price. You cannot sample the tracks of "Boy Child" on Amazon, so you'll have to take my word that it is better. But if "Boy Child" is unavailable, "It's Raining Today" will do almost as well. My favorites are "The Seventh Seal" and "The Old Man's Back Again". If you think you are completely unfamiliar with Scott Walker, but were around in the mid-60s, then you may remember "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and "Make it Easy on Yourself". That was Scott Walker singing with the Walker Brothers.

5 out of 5 stars Five stars for Scott Walker, 3 stars for this collection...........2000-10-26

If you are unfamiliar with Scott Walker, and looking for an introduction to his art, skip this disc and go directly to "Boy Child", a much better collection made up entirely of his own excellent compositions, re-mastered in 24-bit HDCD. That said, no matter what Scott Walker CD you choose, there is little anyone can do to prepare you, but I'll try anyway.

I only recently discovered Scott Walker's music and it has affected me like nothing I have heard in years, and I listen to A LOT of music.

You may be tempted to automatically hit the "eject" button after the first few seconds of the very first song. Resist this impulse! This music requires you to acclimatize to it; the data streaming into your ears simply will not compute at first. You'll try to deny it, to laugh it off. You'll wonder where in the world this music came from, and ponder who the heck it was intended for (certainly not me!). You'll swear you could never possibly actually LIKE this stuff, but you'll keep coming back. Over and over. Scott Walker has you in his grip.

Prepare to do internet searches on Scott Walker to learn more about the originator of this inexplicable music. Prepare to invest in his first 4 CD's (from which this collection is culled), only to realize that there are now newly re-mastered editions available with restored artwork and 24-bit sound. You'll buy those, too, and end up with 2 copies of all of his early albums. Finally, prepare to invest in his more recent works as well (skip Climate of Hunter, and do not listen to Tilt in the dark by yourself). I know all this, because this is exactly what happened to me. And I'm not even mad about it.

Imagine a rock-and-roll Sartre with Sinatra's vocal chops and backing band, singing songs about man's inhumanity to man, all played entirely WITHOUT irony. I couldn't believe it either, until I finally accepted what I was hearing. Scott Walker is clearly a genius, but definitely not a happy man, and alienation is his primary theme.

If this description does not deter you (and it should deter some of you), I urge you to purchase Boy Child (or this disc) and fall in love with the pure unbelievable HUMANITY of Scott Walker's art.

BTW: Keep Scott Walker to yourself; your friends will never, ever understand. It's that special.

5 out of 5 stars The ideal introduction to one of the truly great voices.......2000-01-31

I first heard these songs on crackling vinyl, on (then) long deleted albums lent to me insistently by a friend who had collected them from record fairs, car boot sales and charity shops over long years of searching. Now it's - thankfully - a little easier to get to grips with Scott Walker's work and this is the latest in a series of excellent reissues of material.

The choice of tracks is a good cross section of the period. It's mostly his own material but with a representative selection of covers such as 'Joanna' and 'Through a long and sleepless night'. Myself I would have chosen different cover versions than the ones here but as an introduction to the styles he was capable of executing so well they serve their purpose.

There are many shades of mood on this album but almost all share a reflective quality - the sound of a man baring some part of his soul to try and make sense of his part in a world that he finds bitter, confusing, mysterious and unreachable. Even on the lighter tracks, on other people's songs, Scott Walkers voice strikes a note that is somewhere between melancholy and a kind of world weary assessment of the human condition. 'Melancholy'can be a tiresome and affected musical atmosphere in the hands of lesser performers. But Scott delivers the real thing.

Occasionally, on his own material like 'It's raining today' or 'Big Louise' it feels like a the brooding, floating orchestral shapes of Vaughan Williams meeting a balladeer of the bitter sweet of human frailty, somewhere in the small hours of a still, crisp, dark night. On the whole it's a very European melancholy - Scott has famously been described as the only American popular musician to find a spiritual home in the darker parts of the European creative mind.

This album is a great starting point for those new to the artist and will probably leave you feeling you would like to explore more of his work. The CD contains a few of his greatest tracks but there are dozens of others that could well have been included. The wealth of his recorded work is out there and waiting and this collection is as good a point as any to start the journey.

5 out of 5 stars A Gateway to the Glories of The Voice........1999-08-15

In the absence of the now-deleted "Boy Child"--which covers the same period--this is the place to start for a discovery of the one-and-only Scott Walker. In my early 'teens, I liked some of The Walker Brothers AM radio fare from the mid-'60s, like "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore." But, before long, they...and beautiful lead vocalist Scott "Walker" Engel...seemed liked just another forgotten band with a few hit singles. Wrong!! About 10 years ago, thanks to the enduring British reverence for American expatriate Scott Walker, I read about and began to pick up the on the start of the slow and steady series of Scott Walker/The Walker Brothers reissues. I have about 2,500 CDs, arranged haphazardly according to what I listen to most often. My 15 Scott and his Brothers CDs are front and center--ahead of The Beatles, Suede, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, Tim Buckley, and The Divine Comedy...which is pretty good company. First, foremost and eternally...there's that stunning baritone and its heartbreaking vibrato. Is there a better voice in the history of rock? I think not. Then, there's the melancholy--"a deep shade of blue"--that infuses his originals and his covers. His observations on life, love and mortality are astute and his sensibilities are worthy of history's great Romantics. He's the eternal outsider, who sings with an insider's view of heartache. He's one of America's greatest Artists...who lives abroad and is virtually unknown in his homeland. It's our loss, but fortunately he stood in front of any number of microphones and sang--and I mean SANG. So, on that front, we can console ourselves with his recorded legacy...which is a embarassment of riches. To hear him is to love him.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Collection of Songs That Made Her a Star:.......2000-06-18

It was her first several motion pictures that resulted in Deanna Durbin's becoming the highest paid female star of her time; and it is from those movies that this anthology has been taken. The selections are a good mixture of everything from operatic arias to popular tunes of the day. The original recordings are over sixty years old; but modern engineering techniques have enhanced them to "better than new" sound. If you, like so many others, are rediscovering this remarkable young artist, this album will provide a great deal of pleasure...for the music, and as an excellent example of nostalgic memorabilia.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Geri Halliwell at her best!.......2002-02-21

Ok, i just bought this single as a import here in America yesterday, and heres what I have to say about each track:

      1. Album Version Great! Geri has remade the song from The Weather Girls version and has added some nice new lyrics and music. Although Miss Halliwell stated in a interview: 'The producers of the film Bridget Jones's Diary asked me to do it. So I said why not. They liked it so much they had me put it on as another track on the album and my next single.

      2. Bold & Beautiful Glamour Mix-Edit I love this mix, of all the mixes of the CD, I'd have to say that this mix is my favorite.

      3. Almighty Mix-Edit This mix is good too, It it done by piano as well as other music, and you can her Geri real well on this track too.

      4. D-Bop's Tall & Blonde Mix-Edit, I dont care for this mix as much as I do for the others. It is alright, but not at its best. But if I had to grade it from 1: bad, and 10, excellent i'd gve it a 5, so it all depends on taste.

      Geri Power!

1 out of 5 stars sad, souless, and sleepy.......2001-10-04

For those of us who love the engergy the original Weather Girls brought to this number, Geri's rendition is..well, lacking. It is truly unfortunate, because this singer is the same vocalist who brought us many memorable hits form the Spice Grils....Geri's impassioned vocal from the Spice Girls "Wannabe", for example, created high expectaions for me. In fairess, I can say that her singing is techincally accurate, albeit souless. The ONLY energy in this new cover is from the techno beat track. The snappy attitude from the original is missing. Cher was able to bring soul and energy to techno, and so was Madonna. Perhaps it is just a bad mixing job (but all of the tracks???) If you are looking for the same kind of energy, vereve, and snappy reverie from the original number, you will not find it on this recording....

5 out of 5 stars COOOOOOOL REMIXES! EXCELLENT GERI¡.......2001-06-20

Incredible opening single for the new album "Scream if you wanna go faster". This second part of the single has an excellent mixes for Its raining men. They just put you up dancing. Geri has done an excellent work. You cant miss this single, so go right now and BUY IT!

      4 out of 5 stars It's raining remixes!.......2001-06-02

This is the number 2 cd of a two cd set, they say. I've listened to number 1, it has no remixes at all, only the album version and the cd-rom video, plus two bonus tracks. I had a choice to make, so I bought the cd 2 with the remixes and I don't regret it. The remixes are not very different from the original, but it's better that way: the essence of the song isn't wasted by some annoying and repetitive beats. Track list: 1) Album Version 4:18 - No comments, since you've certainly heard it.. it's GOOD! 2) B&B Glamour mix edit 4:47 - Very similar to the original, but better! A little bit longer than Album version, and a stronger beat. 3) Almighty mix edit 3:46 - This is a good danceable version of the song. Similar to original, but a more "traditional" dance beat. (Almighty had also remixed Cher's "Believe", remember?) 4) D-Bop's Tall and Blond mix edit 6:55 - This remix is a bit too long in my opinion, but is still interesting, especially the chorus, which contains some piano notes. Danceable, and a good way to end the cd. Some reviewers said that the remixes on this cd are like 8 minutes long, and frankly I don't understand, since the longest track on mine is the last one, 6:55. Their tracklisting is exactly the same, with longer versions. I think if you're in Canada like me you get shorter versions of the remixes. Anyway, I don't like endless remixes. Hallelujah! ;-)

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME REMIXES AND AN AWESOME SONG..........2001-05-17

Geri Halliwell's cover of "It's Raining Men" is a pretty cool song. It sounds alot like the old hit, except with advanced acoustics. Here's a list of the tracks:

      1) ALBUM VERSION: This song is a really awesome cover of the old 1984 hit. This version is really cool because it has advanced acoustics to it and Geri's vocals are awesome as well. She surpassed what the media has expected from her once again.

      2) BOLD & BEAUTIFUL GLAMOUR MIX EDIT: This remix is definitely for the clubs and I wouldn't be surprised if it did hit them soon. The beat, unfortunately, is very repetetive and it gets really tiring.

      3) ALMIGHTY MIX EDIT: This isn't so much of a club mix, but it's definitely got a dance beat to it. It's got a cool sound to it, but I doubt it will be hitting any clubs soon.

      4) D-BOP'S TALL & BLONDE MIX EDIT: This remix is pretty good. It's definitely a club mix that goes good along with the previous club mix on the track. It sounds like it would go good in any club.
