Leny Andrade is typically and historically the perfect Bossa Nova singer since her first recording in the late 50s. Once a year she sings at New York's "Blue Note" and shen also performs many jazz festivals around the world. Great Leny!

Leny Andrade is also one of those performers who knows how to choose the best musicians and arrangers from the top list of Brazilian industry.

This album presents a voice and piano duo with one of the greats in Brazil, pianist Cristóvão Bastos. And material is Tom Jobim in Portuguese. High class!

A heartfelt rendition.......2001-03-24

Would you like to get a load of the real thing? The way leny Andrade faces Tom Jobim's lyrics is unparalleled. As Brazilian producer Almir Chediak put it, this album focuses on the lyrics this genius wrote. Although bossa nova stands out as a mainly rhythmic music style (the kind that makes you sway and move your hip imperceptibly)the poetry inherent in Jobims tunes is really forceful, and its drive and sensitivity have not been deeply interpreted. Leny Andrade lends her alto, earthy voice and makes the most of Corcovado, Aguas de marco, Ligia, Ana Luisa, Angela, Wave, and many other songs. Cristovao Bastos' piano is sparse and thoughful. This is no samba-carnival stuff: it's the quality of two great artists revering a musical master.

Estamos Ai is pure joy from beginning to end. Leny has a wonderfully rich, warm tone to match what simply has to be Eumir Deodato's finest moment as arranger. In fact, if you want to hear vintage Deodato, forget all that rocky Strauss stuff and look no further than this excellent Bossa Nova classic. If you are a fan of smooth, lush 60's sophisticated brazilian bossa nova, this album is an undisputed must!

An Ultimate Vocal Bossa Nova Standard.......2004-11-21

Leny Andrade is vocal Bossa Nova in itself.

She began her career in the final 50s and engaged all important Bossa Nova groups from then on.

Always backed by the best musicians because she herself is a brilliant musician. BTW, Musicians are a critical item when appreciating this album. There are sensational incredible arrangements by Mr. Eumir Deodato.

The repertoire is a bunch of Bossa Nova standards - maybe not those worldly known but certainly those typical 'musicians' choice'. A greater swinger, you know?!

The title song was a big instrumental hit as composed by famous Durval Ferreira. Ms. Andrade's rendition was the original one with lyrics by Regina Werneck. She also "plays" a sensational scat singing which became historical and famous.

A must-have album!
