This was the first album I bought of Ivete Sangalo, and I became instantly addicted. EVERY SINGLE SONG was out of this world!!! It's one of the few cds that I can say from start to finish, it is a winner. She has such incredible stage presence, her fans adore her, and so do people all over the world. Some of the highlights: Eva/Medeley, A Lua Que eu te Dei, Flor do Reggae, Chupa Toda com Gilberto Gil, all of them are so great! That cd didn't leave my stereo for months. It's high energy, and can make you feel awesome, no matter how bad your day was---muito bom!

This is a truly FUN live concert album;the crowd sings along,cheers,musicians improvise.One feels as if one is in Salvador,the capital of Bahia in northeastern Brazil.

Ivete Sangalo,who I first heard on Putumayo's out-of-print compilation "Festa Brasil"(in the song "Monsieur Samba")is a real discovery.Everybody's heard of Bebel Gilberto,Astrud Gilberto,and now Cibelle.Ivete Sangalo is tremendously talented.She's a former model like Natalie Imbruglia&Kylie Minogue,but unlike the both of them,she can ACTUALLY sing.She sings at many Brazilian carnivals.

"MTV Ao Vivo" is a very joyous album.The opening medleys bring you in.There are thoughtful slower numbers mixed in like "Faz Tempo" and "A lua q eu t dei".Highlights include "Chica Chica Boom Chic" and "De Ladinho." This live album is an excellent introduction to Brazilian music,or for those bored with current American pop music (such as that on American MTV).If you're interested into Brazilian pop,this album is for you!

This is high-energy, Brazilian/carnaval dance music that will leave you very happy. Warning: This is the music equivalent of a double macchiato. Its side-effects include the creation of an intense desire in listener to visit Brazil to experience Carnaval for him or herself.

As aluded to by others, however, there are important songs -- namely duets -- which appear on the DVD but were left off of the CD, such as "Arere". If money is an issue, I recommend buying the DVD, which is more comprehensive and permits the viewer to watch the concert with English subtitles -- a useful tool for those of us who do not speak Portugese but would like to know what Ms. Sangalo is singing about.

Off your feet.......2005-07-20

This cd will have you off your feet dancing! I like to listen to it while I clean the house, get's you moving! The only thing I didn't like was one of the songs that I wanted to hear wasn't on the cd. It's on the live performance of this cd though, with a young girl and guy duet.

Beautiful music........2005-12-16

I know very little about Brazilian music. I have Danela Mercury CD that I like very much, but I had never heard of Ivete Sangalo. Based on the recommendations on Amazon I took a chance on this CD, and I am so glad I did. This CD is a wonderful group of very different songs. There are soft, beautiful songs and some great duos with various male singers. The one thing that shines through each song is the fantastic voice of Ivete Sangalo. She can sing softly or power it out, but always sounds great. Even if you don't understand Portuguese, I think you will realy like this music.

One of Brazil's best female voices.......2002-11-19

This album is a compilation of ballads and other relaxed songs (new and previously released) from the hugely popular Brazilian singer Ivete Sangalo. Her voice is remarkable: warm, mature and full of depth but with a slight rawness that is so typical for many Brazilian women. She used to be the lead singer for Banda Eva, popular for their uplifting dancable samba-style music, known as Axé (pronounced Ah-shay). Ivetes other solo-albums also contain a lot of Axé which makes her a top choice for performances at the Carnaval in cities like Salvador. On 'Se eu nao te amasse tanto assim' (If I didn't love you as much as I do) the listener really gets to know the true beauty of her voice and her enormous talent. This CD contains beautiful ballads like the title song, but also some very good live performance. My favourite is 'Por causa de voce, menina' (Because of you girl)' with Jorge Benjor, one of Brazil's greater performers and songwriters. This song was originally written for a solo performance but as a duet it gets a new dimension and Ivete and Jorge do an excellent job bringing this classic song to life again.
If you would like to know more about one of Brazil's most popular contemporary singers, Ivete Sangalo will be your best choice. If you like Ivete's voice (can't image you won't) also try her previous CD's 'Festa' or 'Beat Beleza' for some examples of her Axé songs. Her power and energy on these CD's are something else!

A fabulous cd.......2003-08-08

Bought this album on a hunch,and wondered if it would be any good, not having heard either her or Banda Eva. I'm knocked out by her raw, energetic voice and great arrangements. Unlike another reviewer, I think her ballads are phenomenal. A Lua Q Eu T Dei and Meu Abraco are wonderful examples of her range and power, and complement the more hard driving songs perfectly. I'm going to check out her other albums, definitely, and Banda Eva. Also have to take a course in Brazilian Portuguese to get a handle on the lyrics---my dictionary and freetranslations.com make a mess of them! GREAT album.

Ivete's upbeat songs r nice, but skip through the slow songs.......2002-08-04

I'm a really big fan of Ivete's. Her voice is confident and sexy and it rivals the strength of her Axe counterpart and friend, Daniela Mercury's. Ivete actually has a voice and talent unlike some of the American superstar "divas" who rely upon their images to sell their music rather than actual talent. Ivete and Daniela could outsing any of these phonies any day.

I truly enjoyed the fast up tempo songs on Ivete's album like "Bug, Bug, Bay Bay," "Empurra Empurra," "Vira-Vira," "Rosa Roselia," and her duet with Gilberto Gil. Ivete's fast-songs make me want to get up and dance every time. Even though I don't understand a word of Portuguese, I find myself trying to sing along.

The only problem I had with this album, though, were her slow songs, with the exception of Postal. I think if Ivete gets better ballad material to work with, then she will shine on her ballads as well. It's just that the ones for this album were less than stellar and flat. They were terrible interlude after listening to the faster-tempo songs. (I love your voice Ivete, but sorry those slower tempo songs were not the best.) Ivete's voice shines mostly when she's singing the upbeat songs and r&b songs like Postal rather than the other ballads. If they had been left off the album and she replaced them with other faster tempo songs (heh) then this album would have probably gotten about two more stars from me. The album is worth it just for those few fast tempo songs. This is my first Ivete Sangalo album...but I will be buying more because I'm so in love with her voice. :D. Just set your CD player for skip for the majority slower songs.

What an exciting record!.......2002-05-23

The compositions on this album are exciting and sophisticated. There is very little use of electronic instruments, which makes the sound much more dynamic then earlier Sangalo albums. If you like MPB, its true, you can't go wrong with "Beat Beleza". By the way, "Balanco Black" is a fun duet wit Gilberto Gil.

Sophomore album is better!.......2001-03-11

Ivete Sangalo did it again and somehow created an album better than her great debut album! She borrows from Djavan and Chico Buarque to redo Tanta Saudade, and she does it magnificently! This album includes great Axe, Pagode, Samba, ballads, and is one of Brazil's best.

i recommend ivetes music to anyone who wants a good taste of brazilian sounds. this cd is no exception to the variety of styles brazil represents. there is such a good mix of music on this album, from slow balads, to faster carnaval type tunes, to jazzy, to pop music style, what a great mix. all of her albums have something to offer, and the lyrics are usually included which is nice for those who are not fluent in brazilian language. shopping a music store locally will usually find you jazzy slow samba tunes, or compilation cds, amazon is great for finding older music, or a better mix. also try daniella mercurys mucis, or any other of ivete cds, or ao vivo dvd. a fabulous live performance

Unbelievable voice !!.......2003-08-29

A great CD, her 1st solo album. I bought her latest album first "Se Eu Nao Te Amasse Tanto Assim " which is terrific, but I found out it was a hits album, so I have since bought the rest of her albums. They are all great. She has a wonderfull voice with a very wide range. This album has some songs ," Canibal & Tatudo bem " which I have on a DVD I bought from Musicabrasil of Axe music clips. The DVD Is called Axe Bahia. If you love Axe music you must get this DVD.
