Customer Reviews:
A real disappointment........2001-03-12
Track #3, "El Amancer" is a delightful piece by Firpo, but it has annoying background noise at the beginning and at the end. Some people may like live recordings, but I feel that some effort should have been made to edit out the *extraneous* noise at both the beginning and the end of the piece.
Many of the vocals are delightful, however, as was the case with Track #4, "Ventanita de Arrabal," I do not need to have the singer introduce the song. I also do not want to hear the applause after the piece is over.
Track #7 is "Chiquilin de Bachin," a piece by Astor Piazzolla. The vocals by Patricia Barone are delightful. She has a beautiful voice. I would not dance to her music.
My mind was made up by Track #7. This disk may appeal to those who travel to Buenos Aires and visit the tango shows, and I can appreciate that they want to have something to remember the music by. The disk comes with some really beautiful pictures, which make it a wonderful souvenir. I am selective in what I can use from a disk. Sorry, this disk is not for me. I don't need a souvenir. I would rather stay with something good from the 1920's and 1930's. I do not have the ability to edit out what I do not want to hear in a disk. For my Canadian friends, this is not a disk by the ensemble "Tango Vivo de Montreal."
For those who like live recordings, a good bet !.......2001-03-12
Generally speaking, I prefer studio recordings of tango music because I can use them for milongas without having the "applause track" or background noise. That is why I own only two live recordings. It is a matter of personal preference. People are often distracted by extraneous background noise, and I am one of those people.
This disk contains some excellent contemporary tango music. It gives one the feeling that tango as a style of music is ever evolving, and as such, is responsive to the needs of people who love it as a style of music, dance and way of life.
My favorites on the disk are "Silbando," "El Amancer," a delightful piece by Firpo, "Ventanita de Arrabal," and "Chiquilin de Bachin," a piece by Astor Piazzolla with delightful vocals by Patricia Barone.
If you like good contemporary interpretations of some classics, this may be the disk for you. If you are annoyed by applause tracks, introductions of pieces by singers and musicians, you may find you just need to get used to it or use CD-ROM software to make an edited copy.
