There many surprises in this cd.
I think Tiffanys cover of "Sexy baby" is really nice and funky and her vocals are great in it.
i really liked Elisa Fiorillos cover of MrMoonlight. Do it now by MYlin is awesome Irene cars our youth is really goo as vell.
Endless summer of Tara Mcdonald is very dancy

Complete collection of English-language covers of Morning Musume J-pop hits.......2006-01-10

This CD combines two previous collections of English-language cover versions of songs performed by all-girl Japanese pop sensation Morning Musume and some of the affiliated Hello! Project solo singers and "shuffle units." Produced for the Japanese market, these are all done by singers in the west with a few name players thrown in for marquee value, including Vanessa Williams, Sheena Easton, Irene Cara, Tiffany and Deniece Williams. Some are done with an R&B inflection and some with a hiphop beat with rap backing. I doubt that few of the legion of fans in the west already devoted to Morning Musume will prefer any of the cuts here to the originals, but I'd like to recommend a few anyway. The best cut on this compilation is undoubtedly Mylin's rendition of "Do It Now," one of MM's most rousing pop hits. The translated/revamped lyrics are very nice and Mylin gives it a high dose of MM-style energy, backed up by a rap chorus and a good musical arrangement. Second best would be Sheena Easton's rendition of "If You're Happy," the English translation of "Shiawase Desu Ka," a hit by shuffle unit Sexy 8 and then recorded by soloist Maki Goto on her second CD, "Paint it Gold." As much as I like the two Japanese-language versions, I have to say that Easton's more soulful reading compares quite favorably.

Other cuts worth checking out include three of MM's earliest hits as performed by Debbie Ffrench, a singer I'd not previously heard of. Ffrench brings a smooth, upbeat R&B flavor to "Hold on Me," "Summer Night Town," and one of my favorites, "Love Machine," which is still, I believe, MM's biggest-selling hit. Of the rest of the cuts, most are tolerable, but only a handful stand out. Of these, I'd cite four: "Our Youth 1, 2, 3!" performed by Irene Cara; "Last Kiss" by Charlotte; "Sexy Baby" by Tiffany; and Mylin's rendition of "The Weekends," which actually sounds far better to me than the version performed by MM spin-off group Tanpopo at one of the "Love is Alive" concerts. It's the second of two cuts on the CD by Mylin, a singer I'm eager to hear more from.
