5 out of 5 stars "EL GUAYABERO"- FAUSTINO ORAMAS.......2001-06-26

This great EGREM compilation includes some of the very best hits by the great "trovador humorista", composer and guitar master, Faustino Oramas, best known to audiences in Cuba and abroad as "El Guayabero". This witted composer has been delighting Cuban and other audiences for more than 3 decades, bringing to everyone spicy sones and guarachas which only "El Guayabero" can interpret with such humor and typical flavor. Listen to the opening and closing themes "En Guayabero" and everyone's favorite "Como Baila Marieta" which Faustino updates and takes back to the recording studios every few years, because his fans always keep asking for more. The rest of this great classic's compilation speaks for itself, "Mañana Me Voy", "Cuidado Con El Perro", "Un Compositor Confundido", "El Tumbaito", "Los Abuelos Se Rebelan", "El Palito de La Alcancia", "Oye El Consejo"," Mi Son Retozon" and "Siempre En La Cola". If you haven't heard "El Guayabero" before, once you listen to this CD you will surely become his fan forever. If you're already familiar with his hilarious style and verses, this CD is guaranteed to delight you! I strongly recommend it!

1 out of 5 stars Bad, really bad choice.......2003-03-18

Record company trying to cash in on the Salsa Craze? What a sad record. One of the truly greats (El Guayabero), paired up with a cartoon version of a Cuban back up band and singers. Avoid at all costs. Get his more authentic, older, "El Guayabero" cd.

1 out of 5 stars What were they thinking??.......2002-09-20

El Guayabero is certainly of music's greats. Cuban or otherwise.
But this cd is an abomination.

Who though that it'd be a good idea to have a bunch of third rate backup singers trying to sing what they imagine is Cuban choruses?

The background singers sound like a bad imitation of generic Latin singers. Heck, they don't even sound Cuban. The CD was recorded in the Nanary Isles, which may explain the poor choice of backup singers. Totally unauthentic.

They sing too fast, and poorly at that.

El Guyabero and his tres are great, as always. But adding that noise in the background (it's not fitting to call the background music, as it detracts grom the real music played by Faustino) is criminal.

Get "El Guayabero" (that's the cd's title) which is far more authentic. The version of Marieta on that recording is the one to get.

Avoid this horrible marketing driven hack.

5 out of 5 stars EL GUAYABERO- "EL TREN DE LA VIDA".......2001-07-22

Cuban composer, singer and "tresero" Faustino Oramas aka "El Guayabero", returns to the scene on this CD recorded in Spain by "Eurotropical/Muxxic" and delights us with 12 of his creations, among them updated versions of "Como Baila Marieta" and "En Guayabero", his traditional theme song. As usual Oramas spicy guarachas and sones repertoire with hilarious lyrics, blends in with red hot cuban son rhythm guaranteed to make you get up and dance. These latest recordings by "El Guayabero" are a must buy for Cuban music fans and also for those with a sense of humor.
