Ini Kamoze's "Here Comes the Hotstepper" alone makes this OST to the Robert Altman film (renamed Ready To Wear for us hicks in the North American sticks) a monster prospect. Laden with dance, urban, and alternative gems, it will be boosted by entries from Supercat, Janet Jackson (the "Let's Get It On"-inspired 70's "Love Groove") and British sensations M People. Toss in new cuts from The Rolling Stones, Sam Phillips (a dizzy cover of "These Boots Are Made For Walking"), Deep Forest (on a Bulgarian tip), The New Power Generation and a revitalized Terence Trent D'Arby and presto vivacé--this will be flying off the rack. Soundtracks always seem to miss the mark somehow...........2007-06-30

And the missed mark on this one was the exclusion of "La Vie en Rose" by Grace Jones, the song that ran during the closing credits. I fail to see how the soundtrck producers ever thought to leave the song off as it capped off the movie so well and would have been a perfect closing song for the cd. Well I solved that problem by making my own cd and adding La Vie en Rose at the end, take that!!!

Overall this is a very good soundtrack and very much a diamond in the rough.

... with her David Morales remix of "Keep Givin' Me Your Love", a beat-heavy, pop-perfect confection that is criminally absent from her best-of compilations, everything else is forgettable tripe.

Why do soundtracks leave out the best songs?.......2005-11-30

I am a huge fan of the film; came looking for the CD for the hot version of "La Vie en Rose" that runs over the closing credits... but alas!

The movie wasn't so great, but what a soundtrack! Chock full of all genres: from the upbeat dance rhythms of "Here Comes the Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze and "My Girl Josephine" by Supercat to smooth R&B tunes like "70's Love Groove" by Janet Jackson and "Close to You" by "Brand New Heavies," this album surpasses the film. Other great songs included are "Natural Thing" by M People and "Martha" by Deep Forest. And, the Rolling Stones even make an appearance. Only a few glitches (The New Power Generation and Sam Phillips), but you can overlook those. Definitely an album to add to your collection!

I love this soundtrack and I liked the movie. (I saw it in the theater which may have helped.)

This was my wife's most-played sountrack CD for years. My favorite cut is "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" by Sam Phillips. Her cover is actually better than the original! We bought this CD when it was brand new and we still put it on for a spin fairly often. It has aged well.

Yes, she's the daughter of Brasilian living legend Gilberto Gil, but she proves with this album that she needs not rely on any famous lineage to make it in the business. If you love MPB then you owe it to yourself to add Prêt-À-Porter to your collection. None of the songs will win awards for originality; it's just perfectly executed Brasilian pop.
