Editorial Reviews
Product Description
The Nunavik Concert was held in early August of 1993 in the Innalik school gym. This 11 track recording captures some of the highlights of the show featuring artists from Nunavik and Nunavut. The Salluit Band kick things off with a stellar performance of Takunnanguarit, a popular hit on radio stations across Nunavik. There's incredible variety to be found here, including a rare recording of Jewish Harp, played with conviction by Minnie Palliser. Also of note is a series of throat songs by Annie Alaku and Sarah Sivuarapik, which together run for close to eight minutes, capturing the complete atmosphere of a throat singing performance, complete with giddy laughter. Producer André Brassard includes on of his own compositions, a song called The Hunt, providing an enjoyable contrast with the many different styles contained in this fine live recording.
