Funky italian pop songs done with style.......2005-07-02

Alexia used to sing some lovely Euro-dance songs in the early 90s. I loved her sound then, yet she didn't stay static. I think we were all curious to hear her sing in Italian as well, since she often talked about her town (La Spezia) and how her surroundings in Italy affected her music, so after her "Mad for music" CD, where her sound was also beginning to change into more funk/pop rather than euro-dance, Alexia has turned around and started singing fresh pop songs in Italian.

Surprisingly enough, eventhough i don't understand a word of italian, i absolutely still love her powerful sunny voice end enjoy the energy and passion that she has and conveys singing all these songs. A true artist always evolves.

This album is a great collection of some of her greatest hits from her italian language cds. If you haven't bought those albums yet, then this is your next best bet.

She truly has an amazing voice, she can be loud and clear and VERY funky (like her song "Dimmi Comme" or "Una Donna Sola" which bring to mind fun 70's Funk songs), she can get a bit RnB like her "Egoista" song or she can whip up a wonderful piano power-ballad like "Per dire di no" (which she sang at the San Remo music festival and rightfully got the first prize) or "Come tu mi vuoi" with a nice pop/gospel like sound in parts. She truly has a varied range of sounds and songs. Don't expect rocket science here, just pure well sung and executed pop music sung in Italian with a funky edge at times.

World pop music doesn't get better than this. Let the emotion and energy and good vibes of the songs carry you away even if you don't speak or understand the language (plus the extra 3 english language songs are nice additions).

It's refreshing to hear a great voice from an unpretentious singer in world pop music, at a time that we are bombarded with snobby mindless pop divas that can hardly sing yet due to promotion and controversial dance routines they get all the attention. I hope we get to hear more from Alexia, and i hope she keeps up her hard work and keeps giving us great songs both in english and in her native italian.

It would be nice if the people from amazon put some audio samples here so that people could sample a bit of what the songs sound like (at this moment of my review they had no samples yet).

Alexia is Italy's Hidden Gem!.......2005-07-02

If you're living in the U.S., chances are you haven't heard of Alexia. At least, not unless you have been searching for her music since she began singing in Italian. That's how my passion for her music began. Alexia began her solo career by singing high-energy euro-pop music. When she evolved to r&b Italian-style like no one else could, it was the perfect way for her to exhibit her vocal talents which are showcased in this compilation. "Da Grande" spans her 3 Italian releases with 2 new tracks ("Da Grande" is not listed as a track on amazon but, rest assured, it is the first track on the cd). All of these songs are heartfelt and powerfully delivered by Alexia. "Quello Che Sento" is a stand-out. It puzzles me as to why it was not chosen as a single from "Gli Occhi Grandi Della Luna". For bonus tracks we are offered 2 English-renditions of 2 of the songs that appear in Italian as well as "Money Honey", possibly Alexia's best, most-energized dance track!

This collection is perfect!
