This collection is a must, even if you previously thought you had no
particular taste for traditional Japanese music. The melodies are
placid and contemplative. Ideal for reflective moments, or to
relax. I'm motivated to try more of Rampal's Japanese
    recordings.

While Rampal gets top billing, Laskine on the harp is
just as prominent, and as excellent, in performing these works. The
playing time of the CD (sadly, only a modest 44 minutes) is about
equal measures solo flute, solo harp and harp/flute duet. The same
performances on this CD also are available on Sony catalogue #34568,
"Japanese Melodies for Flute and Harp." The tradeoff is that
this Denon CD costs ... less, but the Sony-labelled product has one
more track, Haru No Umi (track 1 thereon, for an extra 7
    minutes).

As many readers will know, CBS sold its record labels to
Sony back in the '90s, I believe when they were acquired by
Westinghouse. While the vast majority of the old CBS/Columbia
recordings have been repackaged under the Sony label (see especially
the budget priced Sony Essential Classics series that's chock full of
gems), the CBS and Columbia marques also are still used by
Sony. Sometimes the same recordings are sold simultaneously under
these various labels, albeit with different pairings and cover
art. Most confusing. Here's more. The Denon label, under which this CD
is published, is an alias of Columbia Records Japan. Whether this
ultimately is owned by Sony as well these days, I do not know. The
point is that you should find a number of the same performances
packaged under Denon that you can get under Sony, CBS or Columbia.

    5 out of 5 stars It Just Doesn't Get Old. . . .......2005-08-08

A close friend bought this CD for me when she went on a trip to Japan, and at first I wasn't too happy that she got me a "SINGLE CD" with just 4 tracks. But as soon as I listened to it, all my complaints evaporated. Tsuki no Uta (1st track) really personifies some form of dramatic night, with its soft and soothing guitar tunes and the tender sounds of the violin on the background. Gackt's fitting yet strong voice complements every aspect of the song itself. Tsuki no Uta is a much deserved title of this song, which really means Moon's Song in translation. Track 2, Hoshi no Suna or "Star's Sand(?)," has melancholic yet beautiful piano all throughout and once again, Gackt's voice doesn't fail to lure you in. His songs really reflect the emotions that he wanted to convey on this album, and I didn't even need to understand his lyrics in order to realize that (I'm only a beginning student of Japanese). It usually takes me a week to get tired of listening to the same songs over again, but this CD has been in my stereo for 2 months now and it just doesn't get old. Gackt truly earns my respect for being a brilliant composer, singer, and a multi-talented character to say the least. There's definitely more to him than just a beautiful face.

    5 out of 5 stars A Must buy!.......2005-05-23

I have to say that anything that comes out with Gackt's name on it is a master piece. He is a God. He is the most talented Singer out there right now and not to mention he's one sexy Bishonen and he is Bisexual (look at Vanilla Live Music Video). It's a shame that not many people know about him, so I share his voice and music with everyone I can. Snap up all of his CDs you can and his Movie, Moon Child. His songs are pure talent.

    5 out of 5 stars Very touching.......2005-04-01

Before I say anything, I must say that I'm a big fan of Gackt. Well, not so much of a so-called "fangirl." I simply find his musical style and his character very appealing. He has a great voice, has talent, and also has a mind to think and a heart to feel. I probably can't ask for more than that.

Now for the review part. It's simply very touching, especially "Tsuki no Uta." It holds a very strong emotion within its melody and lyrics. It doesn't have so much "rock" in it, but it's just as stunning and can convey a lot of emotions as any other his songs would do. The melody line and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful.

If you are his fan, you really should get this.
If you are not his fan, but would like to listen to a very touching piece, go ahead and get this.
I personally believe that certain art pieces would impact people for their lives. And this one may affect you in such way.

    5 out of 5 stars wow...beautiful.......2005-02-18

This CD is great! I nearly cried with these songs. Gakuto-san really put his heart into this, and you can tell. He crones at it, softly at first, then slowly pulls up more speed into it. He's a great singer and this is one of his best CDs
