I have the CD at home and the songs sound fabulous. I've heard the Houston Symphony's version of the Star Spangled Banner many times on TV as this anthem has been used at sign-off (when this was happening). It's as powerful a version you'll hear. Probably the finest patriotic music CD you can find out there.

Absurd caricature cover art; deadly "Best Of" title; yet, a surprizingly good disc at a bargan price. Pascal Rogé is unfortunately slightly underrated, but his Satie is the best. Good orchestral realizations as well. Can't go wrong here--just don't look at the cover.

Indeed, a very good collection of Dalida songs. So many true gems on one CD. Aside from the beautiful "L'amour Et Moi" (mentioned below), and which I think isn't even the best work on this CD, this collection is rich with those highly personal and passionate songs that were this Diva's trademark. From the highly personal songs which no one else could have sung, and yet almost everybody can relate to (like the astounding "A Ma Maniere", and "J'm'appelle Amnesie"); to those most human declarations about life and the human experience: from the richness of being a woman at forty ("Une Femme A Quarante Ans"), to the ugly endings of beautiful loves stories ("Fini, La Comedie"), to songs about struggles in life ("Partir Ou Mourir"), lulls in life, lows ("Le Slow De Ma Vie"), near-halts, but it still all goes on nevertheless ("Et La Vie Continuera"). Add to that her gorgeous eulogy of a song to the Belgian singer Jaques Brel, "Il Pleut Sur Bruxelles", and the sweeping rhythm and fire of "La Feria", and you're certainly getting a more-than-a-good deal in one CD!

This is a very touchy CD. All songs are beautiful; L'amour et moi, Partir ou mourir, Une Femme a 40ans are quite extraordinary and Fabulous! What can I say...Bravo Dalida, This is a real Gem.

Not my favorite Dalida CD but the song "L'amour et moi" or "The Love Inside" from Barbra Steisands GUILTY is absolutely heart wrenching. At one point you feel the emotion pouring out of her voice. Couple other beautiful songs as well as a couple "dated".

The fact that the anonymous Missa Caput is found in seven different manuscripts is testimony enough to its importance. But this 15th-century work also inspired many composers to write their own masses, using this one as a model. It's easy to hear why this tuneful and rhythmically striking work was so popular, but it also was acclaimed for its structural refinement and its skillful and unique use of four voices. In this performance, the sections of the mass are interspersed with parts of a song that tells the story of how the famous Salve Regina antiphon came to be written. The disc concludes with six 15th-century carols--three of which are performed by solo lute, and a beautiful Agnus Dei found in the Old Hall Manuscript. --David Vernier

Excellent starting point for learning of old masses........2006-01-03

'missa caput and the story of the Salve regine' performed by the Gothic Voices, directed by Christopher Page, part of the Hyperion 'The Spirits of England and France' series is a recording I picked up simply because it was published by Hyperion and it was part of a series I respected from earlier releases. Based on the notes in the accompanying booklet, it turns out this is an excellent starting point for appreciating Medieval masses.

The missa caput is an exceptionally well documented English mass which was copied on the continent, since at this time (fifteenth century), English music was highly respected in Europe. And, unlike so many earlier pieces, it is a complete mass and includes both male and female choruses.

Recommended for 'early music' buffs.

Dylan French Style.......2002-08-25

Because this album was recorded in 1965, Hugues Aufray captures the mood of the songs of the times pretty well, in fact and this is my opinion, and there is no mention of the harmonica player in the credits, It could be Bob himself pitchin' in. The French language is remarkable as well as romantic and I like this CD for that reason alone. Where else can I learn to sing French songs but through an album like this. I like it.

Franck Pourcel-This Is Pourcel/Plays The Cole Portor Sound.......2004-06-14

This is one of the best cds out by Frank Pourcel.This album is very beautiful with heavy lush strings and a collectors item for people that have a beautiful music library of cd's.Pourcel was another bm/ez artist that got frequet play on Fm Stations along with Percy Faith,Frank Chacksfield,John Fox,Mantovani,The 101 Strings and others before the format died out on Fm however Xm plays this type of music and Pourcel is one of the many artist they play.This cd has a very beautiful version of It Must Be Him which emphisises a heavy string contingment.It Must Be Him by Pourcel is one of the most beautiful versions I have ever heard.It gets played on Xm Channel 24 Sunny quite frequently along with a lot of songs on this album.As you can tell by the sound samples these songs are so lush and a must for anybody that listens to beautiful music.These songs are mostly all instrumental.Another cd I recommend is Frank Chacksfield Sound Of Romance a 2 cd set with instrumental strings to songs of the 70s such as three times a lady,afternoon delight,after the loving and others.It is put out by yesteryear music.Both of these cd's come highley recommended by me.

A great representation of Pourcel's music.......2000-08-16

This CD has not only Pourcel's original work, but also great covers of Cole Porter that are distinctively Franck Pourcel. My favorites are "In the Still Of the Night" and "Easy to Love". He blends in perfect harmony the singing strings and his characteristic percussive beat. His music is heard all over South America, but for some reason is limited to elevators and dentist offices here in the U.S.! I think it's great, original music and a wonderful tribute to Cole Porter on this dual album...it's a smoking deal - 2 albums for the price of one!!
