About the Artist
Kapono Beamer is a talented guitarist, composer, singer, and recording artist. He is a multiple winner of Hawaii's version of the Grammy Awards, the "Hoku Awards", with nine awards, including Album(s) of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary Hawaiian Album(s) of the Year, Instrumental Album(s) of the Year, and Producer of the Year. He is a great exponent of the traditional Hawaiian slack-key guitar, and to date has been the featured artist on 17 record albums.

Kapono began playing music on an ukulele at the age of four years old when his mother taught him to play and dance a family song that she wrote with her grandmother, Pupu Hinuhinu. Surrounded by uncles and aunties who sang Hawaiian songs and danced the Hula, Kaponos early influences were his family, especially his grandfather, Francis Kealiinohopono Beamer, son of beloved Hawaiian music composer, Helen Desha Beamer, and his mother,Hawaiiana authority and Hula master, Winona Beamer.

Kapono was the younger half of the popular group, The Beamer Brothers, who defined the shape and direction of "Contemporary Hawaiian Music", and to this day have the biggest selling record album in the history of the state of Hawai'i, the classic "Honolulu City Lights".

This is the CD that should not be missed by anyone who enjoys Island music. It is the best! I have bought a myriad of copies to give away to friends as presents and recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys Hawaiian instrumental music and a great story. Kapono Beamer found the music for these songs in the attic of his family house. They were written by his great grandmother who he had never met. He recorded this album as a tribute to her.

This should be required listening for anyone too busy to stop and smell the orchids. The perfectly played guitar reminds me how much I love to daydream. This is the best of Kapono Beamer - and that's saying a lot!
