"The Zydeco Flames provide plenty of swamp rock punch on this, their second CD. William Allums' dynamic drumming and Bruce Gordon's exuberant, pumpin' accordion kick every tune here into delicious overdrive. Highlights include a wild accordion and rubboard rendition of "Zydeco Sont Pas Sale," the tune that gave the style its name when it became a hit for Clifton Chenier; "My Eyes are Tired of Cryin'", a blues tune accented by Frank Bohan's tortured Texas style guitar licks; and a couple of originals - "Don't Worry" and "Two Stomp" - that sound like potential classics."

If you only buy one zydeco cd, get this one........1999-09-05

This offering from the Zydeco Flames is music that will make it difficult to resist the urge to get off your feet and move. The Flames have the perfect combination of blues, zydeco, and swing sound that should appeal to a big audience. Bruce Gordon is fabulous on keyboards/accordian and Freeway Frank Bohan adds a brilliant blues touch to even the classic zydeco numbers. Also, there is a good mix of covers (9) and well-written originals (6). If you ever get a chance to see these guys live, don't miss it. This is great music to drive by, but watch the speedometer.

The Charms second effort, So Pretty, shows remarkable growth. The farfisa is still there and the songs are even better, but now with more of an edge, a grittier rocking sound and less of the light "Top down, radio on" pop of their first. Songs like the title cut show singer Ellie Vee is finding her voice. the distinctive farfisa is turned down and Joe Wizdas guitar drives the music this time around. It's a short taste of things to come...
