About the Artist
I was born on a farm in Kyusyu where my father was a folk dancer as well as a farmer and I started to sing along with the Japanese and American pop songsI hard on the radio. At 14 I moved to Tokyo to study dancing and singing, at 19 I was already dancing on Japanese TV, and in my twenties touring all over Japan in small companies and as a solo cabaret performer. I also won a scholarship to the famous Yamaha Nemunosato music school. For three years I ran a night club in Tokyo where I would sing two shows every night and in my early thirties I made my first solo recording. Then I traveled to New York for further training in dancing and singing and to actually learn English. I have sung at the Village Vanguard, appeared in off-Broadway musicals and am now happy to make my first CD.

Product Description
While singing these 18 songs, I realized that they could be made To tell a story. Beginning with someone who leaves home, we follow him as he falls in love, is happy, becomes disillusioned, painfully breaks up with his loved one, and finally looks back on the past with nostalgia. This recording was made during the war in Iraq, and the artists involved all hope that we can, in answer to the last song, eventually learn.

5 out of 5 stars Son, I am so proud of you! .......2006-03-31

I am so moved as I read my son's bio mentioning my folk dancing. Jun, you are truly destined for stardom. As I sit and read these amazing reviews I find myself overcome with emotion (remembering what humble beginnings you came from.) I only hope you will soon be able to give up that "day job" which has given you absolutely no fulfillment. But it would be wonderful if you could do a tribute for those you leave behind (i.e. CC from NY) such as "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and "Its All About the Benjamins" and why not.. "I Want To Shop Your Block, Baby."

5 out of 5 stars Smooth groves........2006-03-31

You know theres nothing better than coming home, flipping on the JVC and kicking back with a henessey and a fresh white owl while listening to some smooth grooves. Jun hits the spot...so much so that I had to take my tried and true Bobby Vinton out of the shuffle. Next album and I just know the Don Ho is gonna be gone! When it came time to lounge, Jun made it shake like a 9.0 quake...Groove on. Enough said.

Jun has absolutely outdone himself on this CD with this spectacular tale of love won, love lost, and love unrequited. The vocal expressions in his "Iihi Tabidachi" emote the soulful purity, the complete innocence, of a journey which belongs only to the young. And as Jun moves further along the spectrum of feelings from innocence to indifference, from probity to a world of ambiguity, his passive "Soshu Yakyoku" wraps his listeners in the experience of oh, so many soulless afternoons spent in quiet solitude and contemplation. The listener cannot help but conceptualize Jun sitting in a simple teahouse set in the shadow of Mt. Fuji, questioning his purpose in life now that the love of his life has left him for another, and wondering whether disembowelment by hara-kari has now become his ultimate, and indeed, his only option -- my God,such feeling!! And just when it seems that the album could not possibly gain more strength, Jun manages to pull further on our heart strings with such a resounding, climactic close that he will certainly be the talk of the music cognoscenti for years to come. Who could dare to question Jun's completely natural segue from that meloncholy place in the mountain's shadow to his heart-stopping rendition of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" -- in which he pays homage to those deep-rooted anti-war sentiments that far transcend any banal feelings of love that man has ever known -- certainly his fluid transition from the lush gardens near Mt. Fuji to the barren war-torn desert of Iraq is nothing short of brilliant!! It's no wonder that off-Boadway showhouses and Tokyo cabarets alike have coveted this extraordinary talent. The vocal purity, the phrasing, and sheer range of musical flair make Jun a star to watch out for. Listen, and see if you don't agree -- I'm sure his next CD could climb all the way to #250,000 in Amazon's top sellers. Buy it now before Jun's debut on American Idol -- I'm sure you don't need to be reminded of what that show did for the careers Kelly Clarkson and Bill Hung.

5 out of 5 stars Truly an Iconic work!!.......2006-03-31

I first saw a young and impressionable Jun in a one man performance-art show at a small theatre in the Tenderloin in San Fran, back in the early 90's. He'd written, directed, produced, choreographed, and starred in an interpretive music and dance piece about the Japanese getting their arses kicked in the Battle of Midway. The audience was mesmerized. All who attended knew that night that Jun, though somewhat awkward and clownish in a Rising Sun unitard and aviator's boots, and displaying a hoarse and cracking voice reminescent of a teenage boy whose testicles had just dropped, was going to be a big star some day. Well now Jun has arrived. Exhibiting the iconic themes and complex melodies of other seminal works like the Beatles' "Hey Jude", Boy George's "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" and Wham!'s "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go", "Alway's Loving You" will surely go Gold. And the tender ballads, with their strong Luther Vandross-influenced melodies, will undoubtedly become a staple of Easy Listening-format radio stations around the Country. Two thumbs up!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2006-03-31

My wife and I have been to three of his concerts (Nagasaki, Bozeman Montana, and Oahu). As an American, I have a hard time understanding his Britany Spears style voice, but it is very popular in Japan and Hawaii. I find his dancing mesmorizing. "C'est Si Bon" is probably his best work. "Moonright in Vermont" is so heartfelt, it takes you there. A great "stocking stuffer" for the holidays.
