Editorial Reviews

DRUM, Vol.12, Issue 7, Nov./Dec. 03
Dedicated to the memory of Babatunde Olatunji, this CD builds on his spirit. Drum Nov./Dec., 2003

Product Description
'Ijinle Ilu' means 'original drumming', and that's what Sikiru Adepoju, Nigerian-born artist and his group of internationally-known artists - Val Serrant, Giovanni Hidalgo and Bola Abimbola set out to do. Percussionists Sikiru, Val and Giovanni deliver on this entrancing CD, thus making it available for dancing and meditation.

Apart from vocals, this album is almost entirely drumming. The first rack opens the way in a very hypnotic manner. Kwame came in to break the trend. Oya and Ogun tracks deal with Yoruba religious and spiritual icons. Ayan is one of the high points on the CD: it comes with a solemnity that truly shows the power of drums and percussions on the listener. Yembela comes last, but it releases the listener from the mesmerizing effects of Ayan.
