When a male singer sends his voice soaring into the highest registers like a tortured angel, the effect can be heartbreakingly romantic. That's the case with Cuba's Armando Garzsn, whose distinctive countertenor floats over his small acoustic band as though swooning from the beauty of it all. Garzsn's first album was virtually all boleros-the seductively rhythmic ballads that originated in his native Oriente province. On his third album he adds some upbeat tunes, and the boleros include several by Mexican composers. Garzsn also departs from the traditional bolero instrumentation, juxtaposing a Mexican requinto guitar with the jangly Cuban tres. The purity of Garzsn's voice, delicate but lithe, makes this gently swaying music irresistible. --Marty Lipp

If your're like me you probably thought you heard the best of Cuba after Buena Vista Social Club graced your ears... think again. From this fertile land of musical talent comes Armando Garzon, a man who's music is evidently not suppressed by convention and who's musicianship and pure energy saturate the entire album. On this album Garzon looks to his Cuban roots for the heavy grooves and to Latin America for romantic themes. This is a vocalist's album yet Garzon often sits in the background and lets his band whip up a frenzy of music, the way only Cubans know how. This is Buena Vista times ten!

This CD is must for any cumbias collection. La Sonora Dinamita and now La Sonora Show but same awesome music and even better! Great music for any fiesta, a must have. I trully recommend this CD to all. Just like the title of the CD "Escandalo" its really a hit you cannot miss. Buy this CD its a winner.
