Very enjoyable French music.......2005-12-11

Not being French or a French music lover myself, originally I had my reservations in buying this CD but now, after having listened to it a few times, I think it is one of the best CD's I have ever baught. "Je me sense si seul" and "Vogue le magazine", being the two most "commercial" and very catchy songs, attract the attention in the beginning but there is more than just that. All of the songs are very melodic with beautiful romantic lyrics but the two favourite of mine are the "Ne m'en veux pas de t'en vouloir" and "On a cru" which feature amazing lyrics and very beautiful music. The more I listen to that CD the more I like it!

Good French pop........1999-07-31

If you are looking for French pop then I highly recommend this one by Marc Lavoine. Listen to "C'est la vie" and you will know. This reminds of my time in Paris in the early nineties, memories which I will never forget, which are made more vivid when I hear Marc Lavoine.

Marc Lavoine has a beautiful masculine voice. His songs contain gorgeous and romantic melodies. The lyrics (if you understand french) are so beautiful and touching. This album is a gem that a lot of people are not aware of.

While this album may not contain elaborate or masterpiece quality songs, the melodies and arrangements of the songs on this album are simply beautiful and enchanting. With sexy and passionate vocals and beautiful lyrics (in French of course), this is one of those albums that you can listen to over and over and over again especially if you are sitting at home, relaxing, having a glass of wine and just wanting to listen to something gorgeous. Listen to "Chere Amie", "N'oublie Jamais", and "Deux guitares au soleil". Marc Lavoine is fantastic.

Just like wine he's getting better with time.......2002-06-14

Marc Lavoine latest album includes new songs and new versions of previous material. You should not expect a voice out of the ordinary but rather melodious songs easy to get along and well written lyrics about women, failed relationships and France. He already has a long career behind, and the production of his albums seriously improved with time. If you're looking for quality French pop, here you found it.

"Le pont Mirabeau" (Mirabeau bridge) is a poem by Guillaume Apolinaire. The orchestration transforms the classic poem into song lyrics in a natural way. You might think the poem was written for the purpose. The guitars sustain the chorus "come the night, strike the hour, days go and I stay". It was a successful single. The upbeat and guitar driven "Passent les nuages" is about breaking up. "Pass the clouds, sun is already showing up, but this tear on my face will not dry; Pass the clouds and flash by the days but this tear as a tattoo will always stay."

"J'aurais voulu" is a love declaration. The repetitive pulse sounds like a heartbeat and gives the song a lullaby feeling. He explains that he would have like to do wonders for his loved one: change day into night, offer her good weather and rain, save her life hundred times, built up a bridge between earth and sky. But in the end, his greatest accomplishment was to become the father of her child.

There are several very nice duets on this album. The first one is "Je ne veux qu'elle" (She's all I want), with Claire Kelm. I would describe the track as a folk song in French. Claire's fragile and breathy vocals and Marc tender interpretation works great together. "Mucho embrasse moi" is a sensual French adaptation of "besa me mucho". The vocals are really nice on this one. Marc cannot be considered as a Voice, but this proves he knows how to use what he received.

"Chère amie" was a hit in the 80's and has always been one of my favourite songs. I love the elegant melancholy of the lyrics about missing your ex love. The cover has fewer violins and strings, but more piano and Françoise Hardy's participation accentuate the conversational mood of the song. Next comes "N'oublies jamais" (Never forget), a piano ballad with a waltzing chorus. It sounds like a Sinatra classic and it is difficult not to whistle it along.

The original version of "Paris", a sensual song about French capital and its atmosphere, was on the album "Lavoinematic". Souad Massi, Marc's partner here, gives it a fresh oriental vibe.

I love the pulsing beat and spanish guitar of "Deux guitares au soleil" (two guitars in the sun), a nice Chris Rea like summer song about falling in love. "Ma jonque est jaune" (my junk is yellow) is a very poetic and spring calling song.

The haunting "J'ai tout oublié" (I forgot everything) is another 'I miss you so much since we broke up' song. It was number 1 for several weeks in French singles chart. Christina Marocco, the feminine voice, is also someone I would like to know more about. She has a charming light (Italian?) accent.

"Ma solitude.com" (my loneliness.com) is a cabaret like song about our strange society where we never had so many communication systems and never felt so lonely. There is a hidden track, a new version of his 80's hit "Elle a les yeux revolver" (She's got handgun eyes) with a stripped down orchestration.

Marc Lavoine's best ever!!.......2002-02-25

This is by far the best CD by Marc lavoine!! Both the CD and the single J'ai tout oublie are at the top of the chart in France, and with good reasons. All the songs are great and potential singles, especially the duets "Je ne veux qu'elle" with Claire Keim and "Chere amie" with the legendary Francoise Hardy! Also, check out Marc's very own version of "besame mucho". Marc Lavoine's always been a good singer, but you will be really surprised with the record. Recommend it totally!

for any of us who have grown up in europe [belgium in my case], hearing these 20 tracks is sure to bring back lots of memories. however, for others who just enjoy good older pop french music, this may be the cd for you as well. marc has had so many hits and this cd showcases this 100%. the catchier tracks would have to be "pour une biguine avec toi", "bascule avec moi" and "rue fontaine". it's also interesting how not all these tracks are just about love or whatnot, they cover various topics although if you don't speak french you probably wouldn't be able to tell. some topics are a bit "ose" as i like to say, such as 2 young kids getting happy in a car, and a prostitute who makes love for half a minute... mmmm... all in all, if you like french catchy beats of the 80's and 90's then check this out. :)
