Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation, good coverage of artist / salsa styles.......2006-10-12

If I had known about this CD perhaps 1 year ago, I would have saved myself a lot of money, trying to get 5-star danceable songs by buying entire albums for perhaps 1 or 2 songs. Well, this CD has just exactly what a salsa dancer needs: a lot of variety, good coverage of artists. The songs go from the 1960s/70s classic to more recent, 1990s songs / artists.

Between the 3 CDs you will get 36 very good quality songs, and among those 36 you will even discover artist you did not know about. And that's the goal of a good compilation - enticing you with good artists and songs that you know and helping you discover those you did not.

I would highly recommend buying this compilation to any salsa aficionado, dancer or not.

<> <>"Buy this ONLY if you are tone deaf!" <> <>
--well skippy, not sure what you're listening to, but seeing as this is a COMPILATION set it would have been better if you had actually said something helpful.

<> <>"... the musicians continuously lose track of the key... they go flat, or they go sharp on so many notes that anyone with even a modicum of music ability will find their head hurts after listening to this..." <> <>
--As your review stands now it sounds like you were listening to a completely different album since --I reiterate-- this is a COMPILATION. I curious to know which of the 40 or so artists you are refering too, or which of the 40+ songs you are refering to.
<> <>"Do not buy....(frankly, I'm amazed the recording passed quality check at any recording studio!!!!... so off key!!!!)" <> <>
--Again as this is a COMPILATION spaning from the 1950's to present and as such there are bound to be differences in the recording quality between 1950 and now. I think you may have submitted the review for the wrong album...next time make sure you double check. Now on to the actual review.

I CANNOT say enough good things about this box set. John Child's does a superb job in selecting the music. There is something in there for everyone. He includes New York Salsa Dura, colombian salsa, Mambo, he gives you a little bit of everything. As for the quality of the recordings, top notch, no complains, go out and buy it!!!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Box Set!!!!.......2006-02-14

I've been a salsa dj for about six years now and I have to say this is one of the best compilations I have ever come across. John Child, who put this collection together really knows his stuff and it shows. He's a regular contributor to descarga.com a well know webstie for hard to find latin music. This collection is a great introduction to different styles of salsa ranging from the 50's and 60's to present and not a single song in this collection dissapoints. If you are new to salsa and want a good starting point GET THIS BOX SET. Even for the most seasoned veteran and the most discerning ear, this collection will not dissapoint. Salsa instructors who are looking for something to recommend for your students...this is it, again you will not be dissapointed. Kudos to John Child from DJ Rod "El Moreno De La Salsa"
