I first heard Deva Premal on XMRadio and was mesmerized by her voice; Love is Space contains chants that are engaging, calming, and peaceful. My morning starts with this CD; I highly recommend it.

This is a hauntingly beautiful CD to put you in a relaxed and peaceful state. It is chant, hum and groove. Even my teenage nephews get quiet and meditative when it's playing in the car!

Being Indian I started on this CD with trepidation, expecting a western pop version of indian chants. But Deva produces an authentic bhakti experience and dissolved my fear. Her music, though somewhat different from my past Indian experience, blissfully conveys the Spirit that are the words themselves. In India it is said that if one has bhakti in the heart then the singing of and about the Names will convey the inhernt bliss, irrespective of all else.
Listen to this CD and feel the bliss.

I think this is one of Deva's best...her voice, the music are all deeply moving and wonderful...there are solemm pieces and also joyful ones that literally make me dance! Lots of drumming and even a little jazzy at times...I could listen to this CD over and over again and I never tire of it!!

Disappointing.......2006-06-08

I found this disc disappointing compared to Deva's brilliant first CD entitled The Essence - which is a must have. What seems strange to me is that she is on the inside cover touching Buddha's chest, while the first track sounds like make-out music. Hmmmm.... For what it's worth, an Indian Brahmin confirmed that some of the mantras are concoctions, too, which does not really set a good precedent. People copy Deva's chanting in their kirtans and in this respect her work is influential. Although being innovative can be commendable, spiritual traditional chants are, in my opinion, off limits for whimsical changes. I wish she would get her mantras from reliable sources in the future.

Hard core Deva fans won't notice, of course, and will love this.

German-born Deva Premal is a certified diva of the new age, having traversed the requisite Eastern spiritual paths, communing in Indian and following the late guru Bhaghwan Shree Rajneesh, also known as Osho. While her last CD, Dakshina, had a bit more of a pop-Enyaesque sensibility, Moola Mantra is a much more meditative affair as Premal sings a single, 15-word Sanskrit mantra over the course of six lushly smooth Indian fusion arrangements. The disc is something of a mantra super session, with kirtan crooner Jai Uttal playing dotar, Nepalese bansuri flute player Manose, pianist Kit Walker, sitarist Peter Van Gelder (who played with Grace Slick and the Great Society) and esraj player Benjy Wertheimer. They're among the ensemble providing the patchouli-scented ornamentations that surround Premal's serene voice. With producer Ben Leinbach's detailed arrangements and Premal's overdubbed vocal choirs, Moola Mantra recalls similar Hindu adaptations by Rasa more than any other Premal CD. Like Rasa's Hans Christian, Leinbach is a capable multi-instrumentalist with a gift for trance grooves that don't tire and evocative instrumental touches like the tremolo guitar bleeding into Uttal's dotar solo on "Part II." The music is a languid float down an endless stream, but the repetition of the mantra, even with inventive melodic variation, can get tiresome. When you listen to this CD it will put you in a space you normally must meditate to get to.
I love listening to this as I lay down to sleep, and I feel like I'm in the cave with Nandhi. This is also a CD that veteran meditators will instantly identify with, it cuts across paths it takes you 'there', and
this isn't like your other favorite CDs, you won't find anything like this
thats been touched up in a studio.

I do meditation every day to open 7 chakras. It used toi take some time like 20 to 30 minutes to open all chakras. But when I started listening to this CD then within few minutes all chakras started opening and lasted till the end of CD.

It is a mind blowing CD and the best ever I purchased in my whole life. I am sure that I am going to listen to this music every day.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful arrangements. Cave of the Siddhars. Your music is instantly translated into soul messages. Musical soul massage. I don't know if it was my conscious mind or my unconscious mind but one of them surrendered to the music thanks to the constant didgeridoo in the background. My mind remembered a timeless aspect of itself. Turiya Nada's music that for the first few seconds had sounded extremely exotic fit into the mold of my being, as a result when I combined the music with asana practice I was able to deepen in the poses knowing that I was being "cushioned" by the call of Turiya Nada. The final "Arohara" invocations of the final tracks are perfect for the ending of savasana for me...and I believe for others too.

i remember listening to the cd before going to a healing movement class. the music and chants vibrate the truth of being. i was able to feel grounded with the ability to completely empty out into the silence of the divine. one of my challenges it to keep my feet here while embracing the inner light. this cd is very supportive of the healing journey and wherever i am in the moment. a beautiful merging of primal sounds and pure light. thank you for the gift of this cd!

I have a number of albums by Snatam Kaur and have been fortunate enough to see her at the Ashram here in Altamonte Springs, Florida during Winter Solstice. Each album gets better. This one is produced by Thomas Barquee. While you're at it, you should check out his album "The Sound of Om" because it's fantastic as well. Between Snatam's expanded experience as a musician and spiritual seeker, and Barquee's experience as a producer and musician, a fantastic combination emerges. Very beautiful, relaxing, contemplative, yet brimming with energy. This is not just an album to chill out to, but a great album to actively listen to or practice yoga to.

For those who are new to Snatam, many of the lyrics come from Kundalini Yoga. If you can only get one of her albums, this would be it. The others I would recommend include "Celebrate Peace" and "Grace."

Snatam is one of today's most popular New Age artists; in 2005 she was the only performer to place THREE albums in the New Age Retailer's Top 20. Intricate harmonies, soaring melodies, Erin has the voice of an angel. I have generally been less than enthusiastic about most of the mantra CD's I have heard, and consider myself to be somewhat cynical and not easily moved. The first time I played this CD on my pc, I really enjoyed it. Then...I queued it up on my high-end home stereo system so that I was able to hear the fullness and richness of the music, and sat in stunned silence, tears pouring down my face. It's simply beautiful.

I've been rabidly collecting mantra music for some time and was hopeful this album would satiate my appetite, but after a few listens, I've concluded this album sucks. Ths music is bland, her vocals don't touch a nerve, and the whole project generally lacks shakti. Beware of buying (overpriced) music from Amazon that doesn't allow you to preview any tracks! Not only that, but the artwork is wrong. She's inverted some of the chakra symbols, duh! Don't waste your money on this... go and buy Deva Premal, an artist with real talent and integrity.

If you just want a soothing female vocalist cd, then this is ok. If you want mathematically corrupt western 12-tone equi-temperment sounding pseudo-mantra-muzak, this is the CD for you. If you think mantra is about harmony and not melody, buy this! If you want the real deal, look elsewhere.

Music for the happy heart.......2004-08-26

An excellent CD for kundalini yoga practices, or just for some joyous singing along. I have considered the other comments that the music is not "traditional" enough, therefore it is not valid. In my opinion, that is the equivalent of saying that if one is not listening to Gregorian Chants, one is not listening to "authentic" Christian music. You would be missing out on a whole lot.

Erin Kamler (Mantra Girl) provides an interesting, modern, upbeat interpretation of more traditional mantras, which is appropriate for kundalini yoga which is an interesting, modern and upbeat interpretation of traditional yoga practices.

The tracks range from rousing ("Gobinday")to relaxing (the healing mantra of "Ra Ma"), empowering (Adi Shakti) to ethereal (Sa Ta Na Ma). Kamler prints the lyrics phonetically in the album cover for easy reference and singing along.

I highly recommend this CD, especially in conjunction with her instructional DVD's. I like to play it at home, in the car - wherever! It just leaves me feeling happy.

STONKING GOOD STUFF!.......2004-08-17

This is a great CD!
Only one of the songs is in English but the music essentially has a Western Feel. There's some real foot-stomping bassy numbers as well as floaty ethereal ones, and I'm a sucker for great female vocals (she does have a really great voice.)

It's something different, but even someone with pretty 'mainstream' tastes will take to it. Thank God it's not more of that new-age cheeseycrap I've heard so much of.

Sing along and do some mantra yoga!

This is by far the best meditation cd you can listen to. It has 2 tracks of the MOOLA MANTRA (or Root Mantra) sung by Sri Ananda Giri from the Oneness University (Oneness Movement) which founders are SRI AMMA and SRI BHAGAVAN, (check the website in the U.S.A. [...]). The best time to listen to this cd is when you receive a Oneness Blessing or Oneness Deeksha. The first time I listen this mantra was sung by one Deeksha Giver and it lead me deep into my hearth, then I listen the 2nd track, 21 minutes of deep peace and blissfull meditation, this body was not there, only Conciousness and the Moola Mantra...
You won't be disapointed.

Listening to this CD in the hope of going into a meditative space will prove disappointing unless one is fascinated by the wailing and quivering male voice repeating the mantra over and over again in less than precise diction. The only thing that deserves one star here is the background music where the voice is still present but muted.

This CD is by far the best CD available in the meditation music market. Most of the other CDs have several tracks, thereby breaking the flow of one's meditation. Dhyana Mantra has just 2 tracks of 21 min each. The length of each track is just perfect for going into deep states of meditation. As always, expereinces are better than my discription. Anyone who tries this CD will find it truely amazing and will also experience the deep meditative state that I have been enjoying. Just try it and see!!

A Must Have.......2001-07-21

I have practice Kundalini Yoga for eight years. And this CD contains all (well, most of the essential ones) the music and mantra. As a new Kundalini Yoga teacher, this certainly comes in handy that I can share in the class. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of publishing this CD.

Awesome CD.......2006-04-06

There are parts of this CD that qualify as the most moving music I've ever heard, specifically, parts of Track 2. You've probably got to love kirtan and Wah! to feel as enthusiastic as I do, but even if you're only curious and interested in learning more about this type of hindu/chanting/music, this is the one album I would recommend as a great first place to start.
