I bought my copy on the rue de Ecole de Medicine, across from the best greasy spoon in Paris called La Fourchette. This CD was the first I saw in a box of CD's on the sidewalk. All I had to see was that Shirley Bassey sang a cover of the Doors' "Light My Fire," and I was sold. Man, oh, man, was it the biggest bargain I found on my last trip to Paris. I LOVE THIS CD. I agree with all of the other 5-star reviews of this CD on Amazon. You have to get this CD; it will not disappoint you. Whoever put these songs together has got a brilliant mind. The originality and sensibility of these remakes are genius.

The best compilation EVER!.......2005-09-17

This album is an excellent compilation for music lovers, cocktail parties, and just about everyone/thing else. It's loungy yet dancy (with a little R&B) covers of mostly Beatles' tunes and other oldies. It also has the best cover ever made - a cabaresque version of "Sex Bomb." Not to sound cliche, but I first heard this CD in a cafe in Paris and I immediately fell in love with it. After returning to the states, I found the CD online and the songs are just as good outside the romantic, nostalgic setting of Paris (and world travel). Buy this CD and make all of your friends listen to it now!

Fantastic interpretations of some (mostly English-speaking) classics. My favourite would have to be 'Stand By Me' by Mikko - a dark, moody interpretation of the original. But there are plenty of fun, get-up-and-boogie tracks here too, such as Big Daddy's 'Like A Virgin', and Stevie Wonder's 'We Can Work It Out', making this CD the perfect addition to any dinner-party or road-trip soundtrack. Highly recommended.

This is an amazing record of covers by European kitsch bands and a few American soul singers, the highlist of which has to be Das Palast Orchester mit Seinem Sänger Max Raabe's cover of Tom Jones' "Sex Bomb" (the band is a 20's/30's German cabaret revival band). Also roll-on-the-floor funny is the 60's lounge-pop cover of "Like a Virgin". All of these tunes have an iconoclastic sense of humor about themselves but, with one or two exceptions, are still superbly executed and go beyond parody and satire clear into homage.
