5 out of 5 stars Where Is She?.......2005-10-21

I first heard Teri when I lived in Paris over 10 years ago and I bought her debut CD ($30.00 at the time!) and have since owned 3 copies of them, one of which I gave to my cousin (who does not speak French) and she loves it, and still plays it to this day. After an apartment fire 3 years ago, I lost the CD only to get it again here on Amazon. This woman is so talented and it boggles my mind why she's not much more popular. Not like that's the goal of an artist, but her style and talent is incredible. I hope she resurfaces and releases some new work. Does anyone know if she has a website? I love her!!! Teri where are you????

5 out of 5 stars Food for the soul..........2004-06-10

This album is a treasure. While i'm so sad a lot of people won't ever know about this woman's beautiful work (You don't know what you're missing), I tend to like the idea that I'm one of the few lucky people of this side of the atlantic ocean who possess such a treasure... This album is both extremely classy and extremely familiar. If you speak or understand french, the lyrics are impressive by their combination of simplicity, depth and ability to touch people. If you do not speak french, you will be charmed by the instruments and above all by Teri's wonderful voice. EVERY song is great, but my favorite has got to be "C'est ainsi".
PLEASE do yourself a favor and buy it, as well as her first album.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2003-05-31

This is a beautiful, lyrical CD. Her voice is perfect and the music gets better every time you listen. Highly recommended. ENJOY!

5 out of 5 stars Captivating!.......2001-10-23

Why are you still sitting here reading this review? You should be moving heaven and earth to get this album and once you get it, do not let it out of your sight because your friends will want it, make them get their own copy.

One needs not speak French(fortunately I speak it fluently) to be trasported by Teri's music and the depth her music carries is universal to all who hears it regarless of their background. She writes from the heart and one feels that this talented, liquid-voiced French chanteuse has seen a lot. Each song from her 2eme album is a gift to behold. Deserving of particular attention is the number 9 track "Deja" on that she asks "Qui a tourne cette page blanche? il me restait des mots a ecrire":Who has turned the page? I still have a lot of words to write" and "Les coeurs voulaient battre les mechants mais la peur fait qu'on devienne l'un d'eux":"Sometimes in your heart you want to fight evil but fear makes you join them against yourself just to survive". Haunting. The second track, "Il sait" the 3rd "Star" , the fourth, the fifth, the sixth...Oh,you get the idea, every single song is a joy, pain, a celebartion of life and hope, and her soulful voice carries her music splendidly.

I'm afraid I'm going to burn my CD from over-playing it, I am never without it, the sadder I am, the more I listen to it, i carry it with me everywhere I go. The guy you see sitting in traffic next to you on the road singing with a wide smile on his face or tears in his eyes is me. All my emotions come pouring forth when I listen to this woman.

Thank you Teri. Now, when are we going to see a new album? you still have a great deal to say, let's hear it, girl. I bought your second album in Paris, If I have to drop everything and go there now to get the next one, I'll gladly do it and say Vive la France. Now French radio and other radio stations everywhere hear this: Play This Woman's Music. She deserves a large following.
Teri Moise is a godsend to the music world. 'Nough said.

5 out of 5 stars Go Get It! Don't count on sleepy U.S. radio or a U.S. tour.......2000-12-11

No you won't hear her at random on any style radio station in the US, despite being from LA and going to school at Berkeley. (No mistaking though -- she's has definitely a French identity, the child of Haitian parents and resident of Paris since 1990)

Nor does Teri Moise have US tour dates. ....

Nevertheless...

It doesn't get any better than Teri Moise, an artist who writes, composes because she feels it. As if..."If it becomes a hit, so be it. If not, that is still my best out there." Sade has the same disposition.

What's refreshing about this music is that even though it may be categorized as French R&B or folk/pop, as I have heard, it is not remotely a plastic pressed copy of typical r&B or pop formula. Although I like some of Les Nubians or Native, these seem a little closer to the formulaic.

You feel this music, too. And you feel her lyrics. Glad she has a concern for her art here. And, oh my goodness, the voice to play a funky range of emotions from joy to anger to melancholy. In fact, Teri Moise has said that she writes best when sad or annoyed. When she's happy she takes a walk outside.

In short, we all benefit from her bad days and she admits that she does too through writing.

Go get this album. And if you don't have the first album, self-titled, you gotta gotta get it too. Again, tight music, tight lyrics, and the voice that carries much more than your biggest Samsonite. ....

5 out of 5 stars so beautiful.......2007-07-17

This is just a lovely album. Its been one of my favorites for years, and still just as moving as the first time I heard it. Esp "Je Serai La", a beautiful & poignant love letter from a mother to her child.

5 out of 5 stars Impressionant!.......2007-07-06

I bought this CD in France 10 years ago when I was living there and teaching in the French school system. This is a wonderful collection of songs by a vocalist with a rich voice and the ability to convey powerful emotions. I brought the disc back with me and when I was teaching French in an urban school I used "Je serais la" to teach a grammatical point. It was one of the few things all year that reached out and grabbed my students' attention. They left humming the tune (and hopefully knowing a little bit more about French). I figure if it can capture the interest of a bunch of 15 and 16-year-olds who would rather have been anywhere else but in French class, it really must have some power. Buy this, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Teri M. - Beautiful Voice & Beautiful Music.......2006-11-02

Teri's music is wonderful. I enjoy this cd immensely and share it with everyone I know, both english and french speakers. Every person who has listened to it has asked me to make a copy of the music for them. Once you hear her voice you will understand why. This a great CD I wouldn't sell my copy for the world.

5 out of 5 stars Oh my! I've found the CD!!!!!!.......2005-11-04

Hello all!

It's a very interesting story to my liking of Ms Moise. first of all I do ot speak French. I actually took French in high school from 1997 to 1999 and I did not retain the new language due to non usage. My French teacher, Madame Jacque, taught my class "Les Poemes de Michelle" and I instantly loved it. I learned all of the words (well most were sung correctly) and used to sing it all of the time! So I was just sitting here at my computer thinking about the good old days in high school and Madame Jacque and my French class (for some odd reason) crossed my mind, which made me think about Teri Moise. Her voice is amazing and the style of music is very similar to the type of music that I listen to i.e. Jill Scott, India Arie, Floetry, etc) except it's in French. That does not bother not one bit because I'll learn the words anyway and later translate them to tunderstand what I'm singing. I seriously would like to purchase Teri Moise's first album because it's great! I have not previewed her second album, but I am sure that it's full of hits as well. But for right now, I can only afford to purchase her first CD, seeing that it will cost me $43 because it is an import! I would like anyone that may be interested in purchasing music by Teri Moise that this sistah can sang and her music is beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Vive la Teri!.......2005-07-14

OK, OK, to all you *real* fans out there: I have had this album, too, for about 5 years, but you won't believe *how* I got it. I used to have these friends that would go dumpster diving at a chain record store. Apparently, because of their return policy and the wonders of technology, people would buy albums, (possibly) burn them and return them to this place. Well, they caught on and locked the dumpsters.

Before the crackdown, however, my dumpster diving "queer" punk friends got a lot of CDs. Some of them were indeed messed up, but Ms. Moise was not. Because my buddies were "radical white folx," but still not completely un-racist, I got any CDs they found that had anything to do with Black folks that was not of obvious interest to radical white folx (Buena Vista Social Club-they kept. Los Estrellas de Areito and Irakere-mine. Guess who got the better end of the deal? Guess who also knows she got the better end of the deal? ;-) ).

Well, people, a copy of Teri Moise's eponymous album, in perfect condition, was handed to unsuspecting little ol me because of all of the above.

Know that God lives, y'all. :0) Her music is almost single-handedly responsible for my getting through some of the worst (and best) times of my life over the past 5 years.

I don't speak French, but I do speak Portuguese and Spanish, as well as have a love for the African Diaspora. This album is so very beautiful for so many reasons; musicianship, of course, is the first, but the lyrics are also exquisite. I love Teri and am finally going to buy her second album.

Yes, I said "buy." ;0)
